Title: Re: APB Post by Jeepgun on Oct 21st, 2004, 3:09pm Howdy Howdy! :) Sorry I've been incommunicado. All is well. I've been busy working on the Heep and working on some other stuff, as well: Last week, I took delivery of a pool table that used to belong to my grandfather, and I've been cleaning it all up, working it over with scratch cover and oil, and getting it moved and set up. It's a 9'x4.5' commercial/competition sized table. The new cloth for it is coming tomorrow afternoon and I'm STOKED!! My grandfather taught me to shoot pool on that table when I was 12 years old. I'm getting it done in navy blue. I also received a desk that belonged to my great grandmother, which I'm in the process of stripping and refinishing, and a maple dining room set that belonged to my grandfather. I remember sitting at that table at the age of four, eating ice cream with them... So many other things arrived in the shipment, so I've been very busy. My usual autumn cycle seems to have passed me by, so I'm probably good to go until February. Time will tell. All in all, I'm happy, healthy, and busy. Life is just really really good. Thanks for the APB and the concern. Love to you all, [smiley=hug.gif] -Frank [O|||||O] |

Title: Re: APB Post by Gator on Oct 21st, 2004, 3:41pm It's always worriesome when you know people are having trouble and they stop showing up. I hope all is well for everyone who is currently MIA. Hey Frank. Glad to see you're still among us. With those furniture pieces, if any of them are antiques, you will seriously diminish any monetary value by refinishing them. Collectors like to see the age and wear in a piece. I know it's not about the money, but just thought I'd give you a heads up for future reference. REE, HOW COULD ANYONE MISS YOU!!! LOL [smiley=winkkiss.gif] Gator |

Title: Re: APB Post by Jeepgun on Oct 21st, 2004, 3:57pm T'anks, Mike! The desk is the only thing I'm going to refinish, but that's because it's just a really really attractive piece of furniture. As an antique, it's only worth about $700, and the finish looks like it's been through three world wars and lost them all. It is more of a sentimental value.... My great grandmother used to sit at that desk in the farmhouse and make out the monthly bills, when they lived in... Illinois? Indiana? Anyway... I think it was bought around 1937... It's a serpentine front and it's ornately carved all around the edges of the top, and has the carved feet on it that look like lion's paws that are clenching the balls that makes up the feet. It's not missing any chunks of wood, and structurally, it's in fantastic condition, so I'm going to make a long term project of it and bring it back to a condition that rivals what it looked like when it was brand new. I'm excited about the project, even though it's going to be very time consuming. A labor of love... :) With some minor repairs and a lot of care, it'll last at least a hundred years. :) |
