Hi guys,

I must say that I wish so badly that I would be American right now! I would rather vote in your presidental election than in our (Finnish) local elections!

Are you going to vote?

Kerry or Bush? Much more exciting!
But since 80 percent of us (finns) would vote for Kerry, you know who would get my vote! ;;D

Anyways, I have always been the one who likes to follows my time.

Absolutley! I have voted in every election since I was 18 years old. Sad to say - sometimes I have had to choose the lesser of two evils, but if I choose not to vote I'm putting Democracy in danger. I often think that what is really wrong with American poliitics is the people's unwillingness to demand that our leaders work for us - not corporate influences. We sit back and complain and then we don't do a damn thing to change anything.  :-/
I always say that I don't care who someone votes for - but they should be damn sure to vote...

Of course I'll vote! Always figured if I don't vote, I don't have the right to complain. Yeah, we get stuck with the "lesser of two evils" but we could change that if we took more interest to vote locally in our cities, counties and districts. Get the right people in now in those lower levels, someday future generations won't have to vote for one person just to be voting against the other.
I better just leave it at that, as I could go on and on but both my body and ability to type out what I want to say are giving out quickly.

Even if you just offer up a 3rd party candidate or a write in.  Hell, I don't care if you go into the voting booth and walk out without leaving any CHads on the floor, but GET OUT THERE!  Or you have no right to complain.

I do - however - agree  that if you dont know the facts - and what the candidates stand for  - then you shouldn't vote.  I think that voting blindly is worse than not voting at all.


Sad thing is - I know that a lot - A LOT of people dont know dick about anything - and they vote.  That's what scares me.

I will absolutely be voting.

I have taken the time to read up on the issues. And it DOES take time. The issues facing this country are more than black and white stances that can be summed up in 15-second sound bites, no matter how much the broadcast media may try to convince us otherwise.

I, too, realize that this is a choice between the lesser of two evils. But it is my civic duty to vote. I performed half of my duty as an American by devoting seven years of my life to military service, and I continue to fulfill the other half by voting.

And yeah, I agree with others: If you don't vote, don't emote.

Regardless of who you support in this election, I urge each of you to get out and vote. Democracy can only work when the true will of the people is involved in selecting our leaders.

Even after sifting through a fair bit of the Federal Register, and other documentation, thats a tough call.

I'm going to vote. :)  I wasn't registered to vote in time for the last presidential election (Yeah....I know...my civic duty and I didn't quite do it!), but this year I plan to vote.

Funny, but I will decide for sure as to whom I am voting for over the next few weeks.  I haven't cast my vote in stone yet, so I'm just going to watch attentively for the next few weeks and see what my end decision is.  I'm a registered Democrat, but that doesn't mean I'll necessarily vote that way!  I want to see what the next few weeks bring.

The only election I ever voted in so far was to vote Ed Rendell in for Governor of PA.  My best friend worked on the election campaign, and we were diehard Rendell fans.  I've always been very far away for elections since then (that was the first election I registered for), and I never got an absentee ballott.  However this time I will vote in my home county because I'll actually be in the area!  Not that if I vote for Kerry it would make a difference here....I live in one of the most republican counties around!  But who knows...

I am taking 2 of our daughters in ages 6 and 7.They loved going in and watching me vote in the local school elections.I want them to know the importance of  the right to vote.I answered their questions on why I voted the way I did.I don't agree one hundred percent with any one of the candidates platforms I prioritize the issues I feel strongest about and vote for the one closest to my beliefes.I also believe that the senate and congress are just as important as the president.It's damn hard to get anything done alone.Our congress man Amo Houghton  did not seek re-election this time he's been in office since 1987 .Now we have to find someone who will take the time to listen to concerns and problems.not easy in todays politics. I hate people who flip/flop on issues if they don't agree with my believes fine but damn it tell me so don't tell me one thing and the next group of voters something different  [smiley=bash.gif]. Ok I'm getting off my soapbox now.......uh what was the question  :-/   ;)

 Never saw a politician that DIDN'T do that... But I agree about the kids, Minnie. My kids always go with me, too. And I never miss an opportunity to talk to them about such things. They are 11 and 9 and probably know more about politics and society than any kid their age.

Robert Heinlein wrote about voting many times. His position was that it is our job to at least vote against the greater of two evils. Easy, almost every time.

Not to return to a serious note, but one of our nursing instructors had a big talk with us about this one.  She said that she lived through the days when certain things were illegal and women were dying in the alleys having abortions with coat hangers.  She said to consider the certain freedoms we are allowed and even if we don't agree with it, do we really want to go back to that state?

I'm not saying that I'm for one side or the other.  I have my views, but I dont' feel comfortable sharing them here because I don't want to start any fights!

But it was interesting that she brought that up. :)

If you think we have a lot of late term abortions now, just make it illegal.
Dumpsters will be full of sloppy quietly aborted babies. We will find
significantly more abandoned children. Having no choice in the matter, there will be large increases in child abuse, sodomy, illness, malnutrition, and countless broken homes because of imprisoned parents sending their other kids to live with cruel put out relatives and tired grandparents. This will create a climate for crime,
hopelessness, and will add to the list of poorly educated and unemployable people. It will be another strain on our already overburdened legal system.

Things would make a little more sense if these zealots would assume the burden of raising these children and paying for their care and education for 18 or more years. This never seems to be part of the mix.

One needs to weigh the effects of such legislation. It will be the cause great pain and misery for children, parents, relatives, hospitals, doctors, and society as a whole.  It will destroy more than it saves.
