Title: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by jimbo on Oct 11th, 2004, 11:20am Went hunting this weekend and harvested two deer. Yesterday afternoon as I was eating lunch at the local restaurant with my son, a woman in the restaurant noticed the two deer in the back of my truck. Now mind you I don't parade them around in my truck. The only thing visible was the feet which at one time was required by law so I suppose I'm still in the habit of doing. Anyway, I was chatting with my son and this woman who was sitting at the table next to us started bitching to us saying "How can you guys kill defensless animals" and all the usual anti-hunter bullshit that they talk. "Look at me " she says "I don't eat meat and I'm in good health and to keep in shape I go to the gym everyday" Then she says "As a matter of fact, I just came from there" Then my 16 year old son looks her over and says "Yeah you are in pretty good shape, and I'm sure those brand new leather Nike shoes your wearing are pretty nice to work out in to!" Not another word outta her. I never laughed so hard in my life. [smiley=laugh.gif] She finished her salad, and took her hypicritical ass out to her car and left. Which by the way had leather seats also. God, I love that kid of mine ;) Seeya, Jimbo |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by Grandma_Sweet_Boy on Oct 11th, 2004, 11:24am Smart boy you've got there. Nothing wrong with hunting as long as you're doing it to fill your freezer and feed your family. Besides, the herds have to be thinned or they'd starve to death. My Dad owned a hunt camp and every year, we had venison and moose meat to get us through the winter. Gotta say though I hated coming home from school and finding the Bambis hanging head down in the garage waiting for my Dad to get his butchering equipment ready. Carol |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by Hirvimaki on Oct 11th, 2004, 12:21pm That's awesome! Thanks for sharing the story. I grew up hunting with my dad; some of the best memories I have from childhood. And I can't wait until our kiddo - due in just over a week now - will be old enough to learn all about it. I wish I could have seen that lady's face... Priceless, I'm sure. Hirvimaki |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by BarbaraD on Oct 11th, 2004, 1:21pm Great story. I get so fed up with bleeding hearts about animal rights. We EAT animals down here in the south. I've got deer, wild hogs and a few other assorted "wild" things as well as beef, port and chicken in my freezer now. I guess next we'll have egg rights and people will tell me we are killing unborn chickens! Geezzz! Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by Woobie on Oct 12th, 2004, 10:29am I asked my biology teacher once if being a vegetarian was "better" for you - he said "We were made to eat meat - teeth are for eating meat. Dinosaurs with teeth ate meat - dinosaurs without teeth ate plants." So - I immediately started being a vegetarian - LMAO! (never trust a teacher - was my thinkin) That lasted about a day or two maybe. [smiley=laugh.gif] |

We (humans) have grinding teeth like herbivorous animals and longer intestines than carnivorous animals... BUT...our stomach's produce hydrochloric acid, something not found in herbivores, and the hydrochloric acid activates protein-splitting enzymes. In addition, the human pancreas manufactures a full range of digestive enzymes to handle a wide variety of foods, both animal and vegetable. And while humans may have longer intestines than animal carnivores, they are not as long as herbivores. Our physiology definitely indicates a mixed feeder, or an omnivore, much the same as the mountain gorilla and chimpanzee (who have been observed eating small animals and, in some cases, other primates). In other words: MEAT and POTATOES! Hirvimaki |

That is just the salt from my ball-sweat you are enjoying there, Teabag! ;;D ;;D I am one of those hard core vegetarians that DOES NOT give a shit what anyone else does. My daughter likes chicken, my wife prefers steak, my friends drag my ass to Outback. I wear leather footwear and leather belts. And carry spiders outside when I find them. Being a vegetarian now is far easier than it was 13 years ago. Fake chicken, burgers, sausage, and pepperoni have all been perfected. Still waiting on steak & seafood. //not a health thing, but a life thing /it is impossible to offend me, so please do not think that you have [smiley=thumb.gif] |

I wasn't trying to offend anyone or there would have been some very creative name calling involved. The biggest part of my diet is humor, which should be pretty obvious by my posts. It's great that you are open minded enough about it to stay with your diet and not insist on it for every one else in your house. The friends of yours who drag you to Outback should have their a$$es kicked for it. I'm sure that they wouldn't like to have you shoving tofu or soybean burgers in their face. |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by Rock_Lobster on Oct 12th, 2004, 11:25am Heh heh heh! This is all in fun... no worries! Actually, I love Outback. That Bloomin Onion owns, plus the beer is always icy and the desserts always delicious! As a vege, I exist on appetizers (which rock), beer (which also rocks), and desserts (which, coincidentally, rock). Most Steak Houses and such have the token pasta entree for us. I am -so fuckin sick- of pasta every time I go out to a place like that... plus it is normally not worth the $13 they want for it. So I just chow on desserts & beer instead. The good thing is that it takes about 5 seconds of pretentious 'As a vegetarian, I refuse to go to Outback' acting with my friends before they toss out a 'We will cover the tab if we go there.' Heh heh... dumbasses! Cave-people are stupid! |

Title: Re: Anti-hunters and 16 year olds. Post by vig on Oct 12th, 2004, 11:30am I used to work in a zoo. Among the nasty jobs I did there was to spend a day 'incinerating' the frozen, diseased animals that had died in the hospital. The day-long task in the hot sun was unforgettable and I was unable to eat meat for a good year. But then I got hungry and the vegan days were over. Pass the steak sauce. (Don't ask about manure detail) |
