Title: Hep C cured ?
Post by don on Oct 7th, 2004, 11:07am
I had a bazillion blood tests done this week. One was for my Hep C viral load. All the tests have come back except that one.

Given the other test results and the lack of risk factors the last 10 years my Doc suspects that there will be no viral load. He suspects my liver has eradicated itself of the virus. An enormous spike in the viral load a couple of years ago may have been it's last ditch attempt to GET ME.

I'll post when I know.

Beats the fuck outta me. If mine is actually cured it was not so much by what I have done but by what I haven't done. No drugs, no alcohol, no risk factors. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Should know for sure by tommorow.

Best of luck to you Don.

My brother has been fighting that thing for years.  He's lucky in being in one clinical trial after another and receiving the latest treatments.  His has not been cured, but the damage rate has been very slow.

I go for my next viral load test on the 15th and hoping for some good news myself, an by the way Ozone is what most of those over priced air cleaners produce, they are actually Ozone generators, thats why we never bought one! Even though my Aunt sells them!

Don, patience is a virtue.  The PCR test (poly chain reaction) has to be incubated for a few days.  The normal turn around time is 5 - 10 days.  Just keep doing what you are doing .. (no drinking, no durgs) it's healthy for your liver.

As far as the Ozone, or giving up drinking and drugs ... well, it just don't get rid of the HepC (at least according to the medical sites).  Neither does the old milk thistle or other homeophathic remedies.  In fact, some of the homeopathics can kill ya with a bad liver.  But being kind to your liver is always a good thing.  Keep up the good work and Good luck !

Remember, it's your LFT's (which you should have already gotten a reading on ... and I think they came back good) that show how actively your liver is being destroyed.  The Viral Load really doesn't mean crap in determining what liver disease is going on (as far as I have been able to read).

Again, good luck.

Milk thistle is not a homeopathic remedy (unless some homepaths have recently cooked up a dilution of it, which would probably make it worthless.)  In Belgium, it is a prescription medicine in use by mainstream doctors, although it is also a traditional herbal treatment for liver problems.  And from what we know, it is virtually non-toxic.  It doesn't directly zap the viruses that cause liver disease, but it can sometimes protect against liver damage caused by hepatitis viruses, solvents like carbon tet and alcohol, and some poisonous mushrooms.  People with liver problems are advised to read up on milk thistle.

   [St. Mary's Thistle: an overview]

   [Article in French]

Laekeman G, De Coster S, De Meyer K.

   K.U.Leuven.

St. Marys Thistle has been approved for registration as a regular medicine in Belgium. The hepatotropic properties of this plant are rather difficult to evaluate objectively. Mortality rate in case of life-threatening hepatic diseases is the most objective parameter. Legalon is the only drug registered in Belgium. It has a prescription only status. The plant Silybum marianum is a thistle and as a consequence belongs to the Compositae. There is a limited production of St.-Marys Thistle in Pajottenland, west of Brussels. The seeds are exported to Italy in order to extract silymarine, a mixture of flavonolignanes with antioxidant properties. Silymarine has been tested in living animals deliberately intoxicated with mushroom toxins, medicines, heavy metals or toxic organic solvents. Preventive as well as curative activity has been confirmed. Silymarine accumulates in the liver, which is also the target organ in therapy. Silymarine improves the prognosis after accidental ingestion of the toxic Amanita phalloides. Patients infected with hepatitis B and C might benefit from Silymarine, but more data have to be generated. Silymarine given to patients with liver damages by alcohol lowers the death toll. The drug has a general safety pattern comparable to placebo.

Good for pancreatitis, too.

Alloxan has been widely used to produce experimental diabetes mellitus syndrome. This compound causes necrosis of pancreatic beta-cells and, as is well known, induces oxidant free radicals which play a relevant role in the etiology and pathogenesis of both experimental and human diabetes mellitus. Previously we have reported hypoglycemic and antilipoperoxidative actions of silymarin in serum and pancreatic tissue respectively. The aim of this study was to test whether silymarin could reduce the hyperglycemia and revert the pancreatic damage in alloxan treated rats, tested with silymarin in two protocols: using both compounds simultaneously for four or eight doses, or using the compound 20 days after alloxan administration for 9 weeks. Serum glucose and insulin were determined, and pancreatic fragments were used for histology and insulin immunohistochemistry. Pancreatic islets were isolated to assess insulin and Pdx1 mRNA expression by RT-PCR. Our results showed that 72 hours after alloxan administration, serum glucose increased and serum insulin decreased significantly, whereas pancreatic tissue presented morphological abnormalities such as islet shrinkage, necrotic areas, loss of cell organization, widespread lipoid deposits throughout the exocrine tissue, and loss of beta cells, but insulin and glucagon immunoreactivity was scattered if any. In contrast the pancreatic tissue and both insulin and glucose serum levels of rats treated with silymarin were similar to those of control animals. In addition, insulin and glucagon immunoreactive cells patterns in Langerhans islets were also normal, and normal insulin and Pdx1 mRNA expression patterns were detected during pancreatic recovery in Langerhans islets. The overall results suggest that silymarin induces pancreatic function recovery demonstrated by insulin and glucagon expression protein and normoglycemia after alloxan pancreatic damage in rats.

OK. Virus is still there but at such low counts that neither treatment nor even a biopsi is neccesary. All liver fuctions normal and no obvious inflammation.

So I'll just keep on keepin on.

Sort of like the Red Sox (who will trounce the living shit outta the Yankees at Fenway)

No Jonny, you are such a honk that Don is still gonna want ya !

Congrats on the viral load being low Don.  Keep up the LFT tests though, cause like I said, the viral load doesn't indicate liver problems, but the LFT's normally do.

Great news though.  Who wants a viral load when ya got Jonny ????????????  He's load enough.
