Title: K then, the continuing saga of a newbies plight to Post by Guido on Oct 5th, 2004, 6:20pm Day one… I go to my doc and explain I have excruciating pain in my head. It has been going on for about a month now, and so far it happens around 2-3 in the morning. They just begin and leave a half hour to a couple hours later about as suddenly as they come. I also explain to him this same sort of thing happened about 3 years ago for a few months then stopped. At that time I did nothing (no insurance). My doc prescribes Maxalt and amitriptyline. The maxalt does nothing that I can tell and the jury is still out on the amitriptyline. Day two… I surf the net and find www.clusterheadaches.com I realize from my symptoms and what I read I suffer from cluster headaches. Day three… I call my doctor (actually I don’t think he is and actual doctor yet) who works for Kaiser (most generally I have no issues with Kaiser, I actually like them a lot). I leave a message, telling the message taker the Maxalt does not work and my own personal discovery and diagnosis and that I would like to schedule an appointment with a neurologist. Later that same day I leave another message. Day four… I call again being a bit more assertive. I was transferred to and advice nurse, who’s 26 year old daughter suffers from CH. Now we’re getting someplace. Later that same day my doctor and I actually connect. He tells me he has talked to a neurologist and he (my doctor) informs me it sounds like I have is what is called a cluster headache, duh. With that he prescribes emitrex(?) and 100% oxygen. Now a slight kink, he wants me to come to the nurses station when I get a headache, I guess to make sure that the oxygen works. LOL, one, the clinic is not open 24/7, two I live 50 miles away. I told him that, now I am on hold (figuratively speaking). I am certain this will all work out, and I am also certain you all have your own stories and in way to many cases they are worse. A couple of you wanted me to keep you posted so in my verboseness here it is. I am so glad this all happened when I am not ha, right now it is sorta funny. |

Title: Re: K then, the continuing saga of a newbies pligh Post by Guido on Oct 5th, 2004, 6:35pm Thanks, but I really think I owe the quickness to you folk before me and you all coming together here at this site. Without the info from the people here and the info on this and OUCH, I can see why it could take longer. Thanks to you all. Guido |
