Title: Who's the oldest active clusterhead?
Post by Bob P on Sep 29th, 2004, 5:13pm
Paco asked me today who the oldest clusterhead is that is still getting hit.  Paco is 68 and has been getting hit for the past few months (or maybe he's 86).

Anyway, who's the oldest active clusterhead that you know of?  (I think Paco is looking for something to hang his hat on).

Sorry to spoil this party but when I was at last diagnosed by Prof. Goadsby last year after many, many years of episodic attacks I asked him if there was any hope of an improvement in later life and he responded by saying that his oldest patient was 96 who had been painfree for 15 years but had come back into cycle :o
I have no idea how "active" he is at the current time however. He may post here from time to time who knows?

from the ouch uk site, somebody must know more....

How common is cluster headache?

Cluster headache is estimated to occur in 1 out of every 1000 people.  On the basis of this estimate, they should be about 60,000 sufferers in United Kingdom.  It mainly affects males. Men are 5 times more likely to develop cluster headache than women.  It can begin at any age.  The youngest person reported was aged 1 year and the oldest 93 years.  However, it usually begins between the ages of 20-40 years

God how in the world can you tell a one year old is having a clusterheadaches.  Would the symptoms be the same?  I'd think bowel problems, bad gas or stuff like that but never would I imagine a baby having cluster headaches.

I can't imagine having a 1 year old and seeing them go through this.  They can't communicate what is happening...breaks my heart.  I did see a small child in the waiting room at a dr's office one time that was supposed to have a Pediatric Migraine.  The poor thing was screaming so bad, thought the glass in the office was going to break.  Kinda made me see that mine weren't that bad and at least I could pop a Trex when I needed it.

The Beast laughs as we try to figure him out. Let's all, 6,000 something of us,  line up neked , man showing back, woman showing front, man, woman, man, man, man, all the way down the line and give him the ol' William Tell Overature, rump, titty, rump, titty, rump, rump, rump.

I'm near Paco's age and have been ch free 19 years this month.

Jonny's 98 on his profile..nuts, now I'll have to change mine.

Seeing a child or an infant go through a migraine or a cluster headache... OMG...  :'(

When I was a medic, I didn't mind stitching up crusty ol' soldiers, or patching up teenagers that had done stupid shit, but seeing little kids and babies in pain just tore my heart out.  :'( :'( :'(

It's really hard for me to talk about little children in pain after my daughters' losing an 8 month old twin.   Although he didn' t have clusters, he was damaged at birth and the ventricals in his head closed up during a brain bleed, causing him to have a series of three shunts placed in his head.  He did have severe headaches from the cerebral pressure of the spinal fluid build up in his head, and he cried most of his little life.

To have a child with clusters is a horrible thought.  It would wrentch the guts out of any parent.  We have heard, from time to time, from parents of children who showed a rhythm and pattern convincing of cluster headaches.

We do have a catgory here in Clusterville just for parents of children with what are thought to be cluster headaches.  Just look down this page right under the Supporters Corner.  Also, check out the Family Services section on the OUCH site.  These areas are both the wonderful ideas of our Margi Storey who recently initiated the OUCH Canada site.

Our ch.com and OUCH sites are truly the greatest things that could happen to cluster sufferers and their supporters.  Get to know the sites.....they're  worth their weight in gold.
