Title: Build up immune system
Post by lars on Sep 28th, 2004, 10:08am
A friend (female) who's immune system in unbalanced and so she's suffering from synusites more than ever. So she went to the doctor and asked for alternative methods other than cortizon (which weakens the heart). Her doctor advised her to a new treatment to build up her immun. syst. using her own blood and then injecting back in the muscle (after something added of course).

My question is: does anyone know about this treatment?

My second question: having had in june and july a severe kidney infection that included blood infection, but last 2 analysys say the blood is clean, would it be a good idea to try this?
I know my immune system is terribly low, i've lost 7 kilos,  and i've noticed that the CH's has "been taking advantage of it" like the devil she is.... so maybe if i had a better immune syste, maybe the CH would go back to the normal 2/3 month? :(

Does this make any sense at all?

p.s. YES! my one week and one day Ch went bye bye :) see her next time ;)

I've never heard of this treatment - can you get a name of the procedure?

Cluster headache is associated with over-active T-cells in the immune system.  In this respect, part of the immune system is over stimulated.  But other parts are not working well, as we have high levels of antibodies to some types of viruses.  Simply stimulating the immune system is not a good approach for treating clusters - there are many different parts of the immune system, and the ideal therapy will correct what is wrong in us.

   Soluble interleukin-2 receptors increase during the active periods in cluster headache.

   OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether cytokines are altered during the active period of cluster headache. BACKGROUND: Patients with cluster headache show activation of the hypothalamus in PET studies and via endocrinologic parameters. Data also suggest an inflammatory process occurs in cluster headache. A connection between the presumed inflammatory cause, an immunological activation, and the hypothalamus could be generated by certain cytokines. DESIGN AND METHODS: ELISA was used to determine the serum levels of soluble interleukin-2 receptors, interleukin-1, interleukin-6, and 2 soluble interleukin-6 receptors (sIL-6R and soluble gp130) in 18 patients with cluster headache (6 women and 12 men) during the cluster period and in 17 healthy controls who were headache-free (3 women and 14 men). RESULTS: Patients with cluster headache had significantly increased soluble interleukin-2 receptors (413.6+/-223 U/mL vs. 290.0+/-112 U/mL; P <.05) compared with controls. Serum levels of interleukin-1 (0.29+/-0.30 pg/mL vs. 0.13+/-0.13 pg/mL, n.s.), interleukin-6 (0.87+/-0.6 pg/mL vs. 0.91+/-0.7 pg/ml; n.s.), soluble interleukin-6 receptors (33,131+/-8,349 pg/mL vs. 35,063+/-7,606 pg/mL; n.s.), or soluble gp130 (289+/-59 pg/mL vs. 283+/-20 pg/mL; n.s.) did not differ between the 2 groups, although patients with cluster tended to have higher interleukin-1 values. CONCLUSIONS: Because elevated soluble interleukin-2 receptors indicate T cell activation, our findings suggest immune activation during cluster headache. Because interleukin-2 can activate the hypothalamus and stimulate the release of Corticotropin-releasing Factor (CRF), interleukin-2 could link a putative immunological cause of cluster headache with the observed hypothalamic activation. Systemic changes of interleukin-1 or the interleukin-6 system do not seem to play a role in cluster headache, as no alterations of serum levels were observed. Even so, unchanged serum levels do not exclude limited local production.

Hi

in german it's called "eigenbluttherapie", that can be translated to " Self-blood therapy"

here's a transcript of a googlished traslation , but search in www.google.de and there's plenty info...

" Principle of the procedure

The self-blood therapy is as attraction reaction therapy a classical naturheilkundliches procedure .

It concerns a nonspecific Umstimmungstherapie.

Usually the more intramuskulaer injected self-blood carries information, which is presented to the immune system at a "unexpected" place and immune reactions to release, which stimulate the entire defense system. The increased defense unfolds its effect then in the total organism and can to healing a chronic process lead.

In order to energize and modulate the immune system further, also for example homoeopathische additives can be attached to the self-blood. The attraction can be still accented by homoeopathische exponentiation.

Develops also an attraction, which seizes the vegetative nervous system.

Impact

From the blood components disintegrating freely becoming protein materials energize an immune answer. The immunological procedures coming into course become visible at the rise of the leukocyte number, increased anti-body formation and possibly also temperature rise. As also is the case for other attraction reaction methods, the initial attraction can lead to a so-called Erstverschlimmerung, which turns an improvement then however rapidly into the opposite. The Erstverschlimmerung can be seen also in such a way that she transfers a chronic, not sufficiently illness fought by the immune system into an acute illness, which releases and thus to healing completely be brought can now a strong immune answer.

Indication areas

   * Immune weakness and immune modulation
   * Rekonvaleszens
   * Migraene
   * Allergies
   * acute virale and bacterial infections
   * old and chronic disease processes

Chronic inflammations of the respiratory system, the Urogenitaltraktes and the Gallenwege, as well as a general Infektanfaelligkeit respond well to a self-blood therapy.
Also vegetative disturbances are affected favorably by the response of the vegetative nervous system.

All allergies can successfully be treated with a self-blood therapy. The self-blood therapy affects umstimmend (modulating) the body-own defense.

Basic principle of the self-blood treatment with allergies:

A complex antigen testing is not necessary during an individual self-blood treatment.
With the self-blood therapy converted in the acute disease happening the existing allergy-releasing pathogenen anti-bodies in its structure one modify and and urge by the Reinjektion those originally pathogenen anti-bodies back. By the repetition of the Reinjektion of the modified self-blood this works as immune training and leads again to a?normalen answer? the immune system on the before allergy-releasing exposition.
Accompanying ones therapeutic measures ( e.g. an intestine reorganization ) can be in individual cases necessary.

Intestine reorganization:
The mukosa associated Darmwandlymphatikum (intestinal mucosa) is the largest immunological system in the human organism and carries out a crucial local and systematic defense and control function.

With acute bacterial infections and virus illnesses the treatment can support the conventional therapy meaningfully, accelerate healing and prevent Rezidive.

Further treatment areas are metabolic diseases such as charge and diabetes mellitus, arterial blood circulation disturbances, liver diseases, cancer aftercare and skin problems.

Proceed

Out of a Vene, in the Ellenbeuge, 1-2 is usually taken ml blood. The freshly taken blood becomes immediately, or after it was mixed with admitted active substances, into a muscle (mostly in glutaeus the max.) back-injected.

The injections take place generally 1-3 times weekly in one period from 6-8 weeks or in temporally more largely becoming treatment intervals. After a break a further injection series can follow.

Self-blood can be taken also, after special treatment, orally (over the mouth), this procedure is particularly suitable for children and with patients with a Spritzenphobie."

It's also called auto-sanguis therapy in English.  It is mostly illegal in the US.  I couldn't find any scientific studies that show it is beneficial.

I am not a big fan of homeopathy - the theory makes no sense, and any postitive results are accidental in my opinion.  There are also some risks from removing the blood and re-injecting it.  I wouldn't start with this approach for clusters. In fact, I don't think I would want this done to me.

Sounds like a treatment Keith Richards might use.
