Title: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by Donna H. on Sep 21st, 2004, 8:33pm A week ago Sun., I was ordered to evacuate. OK, so we take a nice ride to Perry, Ga......an easy 7 hour jaunt. About 2 hours before we got there, my leg started bothering me. By the time we arrived, I could barely walk. Pain from the mid back down to the left ankle.....severe pain. I'm still on the Neurontin......not once per day but now 3 times at 300 mg each, plus Oxycodone, 10 mgs. every 6 hours and Valium 5 mgs. three times per day. I am a walking Zombie. Saw my doc today and I'm scheduled to have the first of three cortisone epidurals next Tuesday. They are three weeks apart. I'm depressed, in a lot of pain and don't have any PTO's left at work. So, until my short term disability kicks in, there's no income. In the last two months I've helped my sister with her dying husband, went thru the funeral, had a colonoscopy, endured three hurricanes, now a problem with a vertebra out of line with two bulging discs and the wonderful needles in the spine to look forward to. Stop the merry-go-round. I wanna get off. Sorry for the pitty party.....just really needed to share this with my support system. |

Title: Re: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by Kirk on Sep 21st, 2004, 9:00pm This has probably been suggested already. Try an ice pack on your back 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off. I did that before my last four back surgeries and it seemed to help. Good luck, our prayers are with you. [smiley=thumb.gif] |

Title: Re: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by Renee on Sep 21st, 2004, 10:24pm Donna, I've had the epidural steroid injections. They will make you sore for about 5 days. A bag of frozen english peas works well. The good thing, at least for me, is the steroid injection not only helped my neck but also kept the beast away for about 6 weeks. My second injection was after 6 weeks and third injection was after 4 weeks. I did have problems sleeping due to the steroids the first few days. A hot bath made things worse for me. Frozen peas were in high demand for me. good luck and wishing you success renee |

Title: Re: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by BarbaraD on Sep 22nd, 2004, 7:13am Frozen peas are a MUST DH. And don't even try sleeping on your stomach. That will knock mine out in a minute and cause pain for days. Remember - that's why I play "huggie" with a pillow at night. If I roll over - the pillow won't let me go over on my stomach. 5 Iboprophen (msp) help the swelling and pain somewhat (for a little while). Try that. Prayers are coming your way for things to get better. Your in my thoughts. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by bobkip on Sep 22nd, 2004, 2:30pm Hang in there Donna. I had the epidural thing twice. The hardest part was getting to the pain clinic but the first was well worth it. The pain (lower back to left knee) was gone almost immediately with no after effects. It's hell to get old but I'm told it beats the alternative. Good luck. Kip |

Title: Enough IS enough, but what to do? Post by Donna H. on Sep 23rd, 2004, 10:47am My dear sweeties: Thank each one of you for your well wishes, vibes and prayers. I went through these epidurals almost exactly two years ago, so I do know the routine. I had three sessions, three weeks apart, and the pain finally subsided two weeks after the third one. I thought it hadn't worked, but i guess it did. I'm nor sure if it just went away alone or if the cortisone did it. I prefer to believe it did. We'll see. Take care, all. Love, Donna |
