Title: No longer a virgin... Post by Gator on Sep 9th, 2004, 11:12pm Well, I gave myself my first shot of imitrex today. Wasn't real sure on just how hard to jab it. It took 3 tries to get the needle in. Admittedly, the first two were more hesitation than attempts. Third time was a charm. I can do this no problem. I followed the trex trick from th elink at the left (Thanks DJ) and gave myself approx 1/3 of the vial. It worked, but 2 mg of trex subcutaneously seemed to take longer than the 2.5 mg of Zomig NS I had been using. I considered trying 3 mg, but I think I'll try to stick with 2mg unless stuff just gets bad. Gator |

Title: Re: No longer a virgin... Post by E-Double on Sep 9th, 2004, 11:17pm Popped your cherry eh? Don't become a trex sleeper. I think it is a lot of tinkering (atleast it is for me) and you kinda start to figure out how much will work. The one perk (of using the tip) is that you can take more if necessary without having to wait. Feel good dude & really hope it helps! E |

Title: Did somebody say Virgins? Post by Mr. Happy on Sep 9th, 2004, 11:26pm There's so few firsts left for a man your age. Tsk tsk....... If'n I was you, I'd stick with the Zomig snorts........(unless that ain't an option.) If'n I finally had to go to the Trex jams, it'd be with the Injex 30 (http://www.injex.com/products/injex30.asp). Title: Re: No longer a virgin... Post by cootie on Sep 9th, 2004, 11:31pm So how many think the Zomig NS is better then the trex shots.....again I am confused cuz we keep tryin to figure out what is BEST to ask for. Figured the shots worked faster ??? So we went 'that route' with our doc and let him get around our insurence co so we could at least get a FEW a month. (get 4 total) Got that script for a year so will be stock pileing and HOPED "this plan" was best ? Geeze......bein supporter can be tough tryin to figure out what is best for someone else. He had the imitrex NS years ago and said that didn't work. I dunno girl Pam |

Title: Re: No longer a virgin... Post by thomas on Sep 9th, 2004, 11:39pm I don't care about fast or slow, I care about less hits and that is what the zomig pill does for me and that is why I choose it over the trex. |

Title: So much for Virgins..... Post by Mr. Happy on Sep 10th, 2004, 12:48am Coot.....the trex shots may be faster......but according to the latest from Research Central, the Zomig snorts work within 8 - 15 minutes for the most part. Kinda. The cool thing is, Zomig lasts a lot longer than Trex.....but it's a personal choice issue. Coss a Toin, RJ |

And am afraid to have two triptans in this house.....he gets too despret and afraid he'd start mixin. Dumber by the day Pam :P |

That looks like an awesome needle-free way to deliver meds, but the maximum dosage per shot is .30mg, meaning at least 7 shots to reach 2.1mg or one third (approx.) of a 6mg standard shot. |

It's NOT a choice for some of us. Zomig will NOT help my clusters. ONLY IMITREX INJECTIONS WILL. Gator, If you don't find satisfactory relief from 2mg...up it to 3mg. For some of us...2mg WON'T do the trick. I must take 4mg shots everytime. Works everytime 2 !! Unsolved |

Hmmm. Sounds interesting... Looked around a bit. There seem to be a number of needle-free injectors out there (injex, medi-ject, . Considering the number of people on insulin, there is very little feedback to be found. Consensus seems to be that they do sting, with the problem being that the sting varies. They also seem to be a pain in the ass to load. The few reviews I found cover the entire love-them/hate-them range. That said, my curiousity has been triggered. I want to try one. |

It acually holds .5 to 30ML (Millilitres) not milligrams. The statdose has 6mg of imitrex in .5 millilitres. So it would definitely hold 6 mgs of trex. Jimmy |

It's all a big clusterfuck. When I was on Community Care HMO, I could get 30 Zomig NS per month. I lost my job and had to switch over to the wife's insurance, Aetna PPO. Zomig NS is not on their formulary. You have to precert to even use it. I did that and got 6 per month. Great. I get hit 90 - 150 times per month and they will let me abort 6. With a letter of medical necessity, they upped it to 12. They gratiously denied my appeal for more. Imitrex IS on their formulary. They will go 4 stat dose kits per month or 10 vials. I have talked to someone who said he got them to give him 90 vials a month. Worked them up a little at a time. I had the neuro write me a script for 30 per month and a letter of necessity. Even if they don't approve 30, I can theoretically abort up to 30 attacks with the 10 6mg vials. As long as 2 mg trex works, I can abort at least one of the 3 - 5 hits I get every day. One thing I don't understand is, they say right there on their website they get "rebates" from some drug companies for using their products. As far as I knew "rebates" were the same as kickbacks, which I thought were illegal. I guess if you use the right words, you can call a skunk a rose, but it still stinks to me. Anyways, that is the story behind the switch to trex. I don't like it, but it's the only way I can beat the numbers game. Gator |

Title: Re: No longer a virgin... Post by FZfan on Sep 10th, 2004, 1:26pm Jesus Gator, that really sucks. I am rapidly beginning to form the opinion that insurance companies are the worst of the worst of the worst in this country. Will we ever see the day when insurance companies quit practicing medicine? Or, better yet, disappear completely? Another fine example of why we need the Cluster Headache Projector Ray. Title: Re: No longer a virgin... Post by Mr. Happy on Sep 10th, 2004, 1:39pm The Injex thing caught my eye when I first saw it. Easy to use, no sharp medical waste products to worry about, and it looks really cool. First I thought Fu was right. Then I thought Jimmy was right. Then I thought Fu was right. Then, in spite of my better male judgement, I went back and RTFM on Trex and Injex. Quote:

If I'm doing the math right, 0.166 mL equals 2 mg of bounteous Trex. Injex gets the NOA. It's all this communistic Metric crap that's the problem, RJ |
