Title: Vibes would be appreciated folks...(update) Post by Redd715 on Sep 9th, 2004, 7:59am My Mother, who suffers Dementia with Lewy Body, was rushed to the hospital late yesterday afternoon, and is undergoing a transfusion at this time to get her red count up to a safe level, and this afternoon she begins the testing to find out where the internal bleeding is coming from that has her whole hemoglobin count down to 5 rather than a normal of 12. The confusion and dilusions of sundowners was very heavy on her last night, and she was asking how my father, (who passed on 24 years ago) was taking this news, and her Doctor said that when he was the nursing home to get her ready to go to the hospital she was scanning the newspaper for apartments for herself and her Mother. I don't know when I'll be able to get back here with an update, as there are tests scheduled threw the weekend till we find the culprit of this and being that I'm DPOA, I have to be present during all procedures. Wish me luck that I don't go bloody nutz during all this and the beast stays away so I can focus on Mom. Love you all.....and talk soon! Redd |

First thing is that not only was Mom's count down but the actual size of the red cells were very very small. So this is something that has been brewing for a long time to shrink the cell size like this is what they tell me. They ran a stool sample overnight, and found small traces of blood in the stool, but I'm not really sure that that small of an amount could lead to such a drastic low level, and the cell shrinkage. The upper GI skope today showed nothing but some narrowing of the esophogus from the years of scar buld-up from her GERD. But NO bleeding. Tomorrow they are doing a full colonoscopy to see if there are any polups or possibly a tumor...Well have to see what comes of that. I'm still confused about the shrinkage in the size of the red blood cells...something is missing to this picture. |
