Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by Donna H. on Sep 9th, 2004, 8:27am The 5:00 am report received at my hospital from the National Weather Service shows Ivan entering the U.S. just south of Naples and following a similar route that Charley did. Hurricane aircraft went into it at 10,000 feet and found 160 mph sustained winds, with gusts up to 180 mph. Georgia...here we come. Nancy, thanks for the invitation, but there are at least 10 of us and possibly more (my sons and daughter and their children). We plan to go to somewhere near Atlanta. I picked up a Days Inn directory and I'm booking rooms this afternoon. |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by karma on Sep 9th, 2004, 8:50am This is a bad one. Ivan has reached cat. 5 but there are a couple things to consider Hurricanes rarely maintane this intensity for long and the hurricane force winds extend outwards only 60 miles from the center. Keep a lcose eye on this one. The hurricane prediction centers have had trouble accurately tracking this one since the beginning. It was initialy forecast to pass over Puerto Rico and then into the Atlantic. |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by cootie on Sep 9th, 2004, 6:35pm Talked to my freind today in Titusville Florida......she's headed to relatives in Missouri......she said no one can stay for this one !!! She even said she's movein back to Ohio and has had enuff !! Guess they started evacuations already for the Keys and other areas for people in trailers ect then give them 36 hours to skat and start the next faze of evacuations. That's jus what I heard.....but came from a good source. Brad and his family just headed south for vacation on the beach....will be rite near the Georgia border. I kinda think there nuts goin down there rite now. Esp if they don't leave and it is sudgested they do and think they will be spared.....then get into that panic traffic mess. My sisiter in law did that years ago and left too late.....got into an 8 hour traffic jam with fights breaking out and bad weather on it's way !! SCAREY !!!!! Was depressed I didn't go but mite be even more if I was there....or scared shitless I mean !!! All of you in it's path...........BE SAFE !!!!! Storm dodger Pam |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by cootie on Sep 9th, 2004, 7:49pm Not sure the exact area my freind lives in in T-ville john.......I'll have to ask her. She lives in an older house that actually sets up higher on a hill of sorts and gets ALOT of wind....but not so much with flooding. So....suppose that has more to do with the extra worry. Is there a building code to survive a level 4 or 5 hurricane......what would be safe........an underground house ? Probly one that won't fill with water ech ? Himicane threat Pam |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by Kevin_M on Sep 10th, 2004, 5:17am It looks like Jamaica is next. For a country that depends so heavily on tourism, this will wipe out the entire economy there for a while, and many lives. somehow, spare Florida this one. Kevin M |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by pubgirl on Sep 10th, 2004, 5:24am Sending "divert" vibes to Ivan the Terrible. Hoping it changes its mind and heads out to sea. All your hurricanes have been covered extensively on the news here so we have some idea of the devastation and danger. Hope everyone stays safe. We just get rain and floods which just bugger people's houses and insurance so we are lucky really. Wendy |

Title: Re: Ivan the terrible Post by stevegeebe on Sep 14th, 2004, 1:13pm Strange feelings. Been thru many storms since Betsy. This one has got me in knots. Convinced my parents to stay at my brothers house. Sent my daughter off to Houston to stay with her cousin. Just shot updated photos of all of our stuff. Final clean up in the yard. Every now and then, I stop and look back at the fine home my wife and I built ourselves. Hurts to think what's ahead. I'll keep in touch. Steve G Anybody heard from Edna? |
