Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by floridian on Sep 1st, 2004, 9:29am This one is alot like Floyd - big, dangerous, could run parallel to the coast and cut in anywhere. The predicted landfall yesterday was Amelia Island, ~20 miles from my house, but it shifted a lot. Now the calcs say most likely to hit due east of Lake Okeechobee (Palm Beach) - that's a big difference. Bought ten sheets of plywood Monday night before the rush started, now I need to cut it and install the tapcon mounts. Also need to pack a bugout bag as I don't plan to stick around for a category 4 storm. I may be scarce the next few days. |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by john_d on Sep 1st, 2004, 9:51am If it follows it's current projected path, the paths of Frances and Charley will make a big x with the center very near my home. Crossing my fingers. I am actually very stressed about this, as is everyone here who just got through Charley. Any prayers would be appreciated, thanks. |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by floridian on Sep 1st, 2004, 10:19am Thanks, y'all. Prayers and vibes to John_D and all the rocket scientists in your neck of the woods (NASAville/Space Coast). I'm hoping it is a total repeat of Floyd and that it never crashes into our coast. I just bought some skullcap root to boil into tea tonight to keep the anxiety from getting overwhelming. |

Wonder if it will still be there ?? Wonder if they will still be able to get in if the storm hits the coast very bad. I decided not to go....wah.....very depressed about it and missin a vacation. But my idea of a vacation for a week trapped in a cabin on the beach is NOT with my inlaws !! Everyone has to sleep on the floor or cots or couches. All they do is cook big meals and clean......and all of us packed in one truck on the way and back ? Dare I say more...........except............be safe everyone !!!!!! Hurricane-less vibes Pam |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by Racer1_NC on Sep 1st, 2004, 2:01pm Every computer model I know of has a different path plotted for the storm. The only things they agree on is it's current location and that Florida will catch hell. I had planned on spending the long weekend in Myrtle Beach,SC, we race there Saturday night. Right now, I'm not even making a guess concerning the race. One thing I know for sure is that I am not spending the weekend there. If I were in Florida right now, I'd be fueling the car and getting out of the state. Frances is one big, powerful bitch. Bill |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by cootie on Sep 1st, 2004, 2:10pm I just checked my calendar and 'realized' Brad and his merry family of my inlaws are leaveing for SC next Tues. or Wednesday the day the storm is 'predicted' to hit SC.....comeing from Ohio they will probly even have to drive thru the storm at one point. Or the park open to let vacationers into them without inspections and not be allowed in. There all hell bent for this family vacation......where's Chevy Chase when ya need him......this mite make a good new sequeal to his other Family Vacation movies. Who knows what will happen but I wouldn't be plannin a vacation there before dureing 'or after' next week. Where he's goin is just below Myrtle.......hopein Myrlte stays intack for biketober fest end of Sept. were headin for ! We stay at Surfside. Batten down the hatches Pam |

The latest storm plots and satellite imagry shows this hurrican to be as big as the state of Florida and is already a cat 4. It is also very slow moving. about 15mph. Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by catlind on Sep 1st, 2004, 8:02pm Roxy is in Florida working right now. Her husband is a catastrophic insurance adjuster and is there working the claims from Charley. Clark has been tracking Frances for several days now (he's a meteorologist) and right now the eye is 30 nm in diameter and hurricane strength winds are extending 80 miles out from center and tropical storm strength winds are extending 185 miles out from center. Sustained winds at 140 miles an hour with gusts to 185 miles an hour. Right now Clark says for them to go to Atlanta to be safe ;) I hope everyone on the east coast of Florida is heeding the evacuation notices and that everyone who doesn't have to evacuate is taking the proper precautions. Be safe Florida and all our CH family there! Cat |

Just some monster ground sea from the North. Any of you guys in mobile homes that are anywhere close to the projected center of this thing MOVE! Keeping an eye on Ivan I hate it when they go south of us. Floridian, Read a comment from you that St. Maarten isn't so fine. Come on down I'll show you just how fine it is. |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by Peppermint on Sep 3rd, 2004, 10:16am OMG... they can't get gas. People are stuck all along the highways without gas.... so, my niece is stuck in Fort Lauderdale and they're boarding up the house, so is my sister. :-[ They just may get a direct hit, waiting for notice to go to the shelters by tonight at the latest. They never worry about these storms, but this time... its no joke. If you can't run, find a place to hide!! |

Title: Re: Frances in Florida Post by karma on Sep 3rd, 2004, 11:07am thankfully, the weakening trend is continuing. Down to 100 knots, increasing pressure and no visible eye. It is very possible it will regain some strength but lets hope for the best. In any case still a powerfull storm with huge flooding problems likely, especially since its slowing down. |
