My dear brother-in-law (the one with emphysema) passed away at a Hospice House last Thursday and his funeral service is today.

He knew 6 months ago that his time was very limited, so he got his house in order....including his funeral service, right down to the bright tropical shirt he wanted to wear.  

With the help of most of the family, he designed and planted a beautiful garden in his back yard.  His last 2 months were spent on his Jazzy (motorized chair) scouring the neighborhood for flowers and small trees that he mooched from the owners, to add to the garden.  

We will have a for-family-only Celebration of Thoms'  Life first, with anyone who wants to speaking if they wish.  Scenes of Thoms life will be on a large screen.

Then comes the public visitation for 1/2 hour and finally the church service.

It's so hard saying goodbye to this brave and honest man, but I know that he is up there with his son and grandson whom we lost just about two years ago.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss Donna.  Please accept my condolences.  That is a very lovely thing he did in his last days.  His memory will live on in nature's beauty.

Sounds like it is going to be a wonderful day of remembrances although sad.  He is up there breathing sweet clean air now, and will be looking down and smiling at his bright tropical shirt!

You and your brother-in-laws family have my sympathy.  You knew this was coming, but it still doesn't make it any easier. :(
