Easy and fun to make fun of these guys...a good laugh.

But there are some serious issues for clusterheads this election:

Health care and insurance availability and affordability
Pharmaceutical development and approval policy
Importation of pharmaceuticals from Canada
Medicinal use of illegal drugs
Science policy in general

Not saying these are the only issues to consider - war, economy, terror, environment, etc., may be more important to you...but this is a clusterhead board.

Not telling you how to vote. Look this stuff up and decide for yourself. Check the candidate's website to find out what they SAY.
Check Google and Google News to find out what they DO.

Please excuse me for my seriosity.

You may now return to hilarty at your pleasure.

::) right back at ya

let's see,

No, I did not think those guys were supporters of Dubya.   It is safe to assume I did not mean that I was suprised they were there.

Then why the thread?

Guess I'm confused but the title of the thread is "I was about to vote differently this election" and you post a picture of Michael Moore and Jesse Jackson like it's a big shock that they would be taking part in an anti-Bush rally....where else would they be?

I posted a big picture Michael Moore and Jesse Jackson because they reminded me of what I truly disdain about the democratic party.  But they are not the only ones, it's all of em, a hodge podge of screaming vocal minorities who all want something different.  That's all.  Also, I don't like having folks roll there eyes at me- which is the only reason I got confrontational at all.  I don't care all that much about politics.

I don't even get the issue of what's the problem with them protesting in the first place, that's our right as Americans.  But to let two people in a crowd of faces sway your opinion?  I'm just thankful I've been lucky I have had no children come home in a body bag in a war they should never have gone to in the first place.  I'd vote for an orangutan or a two-toed sloth before I would vote for anything with the last name Bush.  I'm glad to be one of that hodge-podge who wants something different.

did I say anything about taking away their right to protest?  Nope.

Vote the way you want.   We still have a ways to go before the election though, so i am going to continue to sway as I desire until I make up my mind.

So if you"truly disdain" the democratic party then why were you about to vote differently as the thread originally stated?
And if a smiley rolling his eyes is going to make you "confrontational" then I think somebody needs a nap  ;)

The problem is you won't hear about these issues this week. Instead it will be gay marriage, abortion, school prayer, faith based initiatives, and why people in Bill Clinton's tax bracket need tax cuts.

Many many years ago, perhaps when Goldwater was running against Johnson, a GOP political pundit said that he wished fewer people voted. This made some sense because of the wide gap in registration. One could depend on a large GOP turnout because without it, it would be a slaughter. There are still more liberals but disenfrachised people haven't been encouraged to register like the religious nuts on the far right. It's a big problem for the left.

I wish there weren't "right" and "left," and that as a nation, we were more united and less polarized. Anymore, I leave the television off. I'm so sick of seeing the demonstrations, the political commercials full of hatred and mud-slinging, the chest-thumping and all of the "experts." I am just sick to death of all of it... I don't want to live in this period of history anymore.  :'(

This kind of nastiness existed in the Chicago Tribune in the 30s and 40s, especially. McCormick hated, literally hated FDR. He wasn't alone but he had the biggest club and got National play. Truman took a real beating too.

Things got a bit cooler in the 50s and I give the credit to IKE. He was a level-headed guy.

Media hasn't made it easier, Frank.

Keep track of the polls @

I always find it amazing how demographics always play a part. Northeast & West = Kerry

Everyone else cepting Minnisota, Iowa, & Illinois = Bush

It's gonna be a close on, again. Git yer butts out there & pick a leader November 2nd....which is also my Birthday BTW...expensive gifts will be accepted.

The 1950's when McCarthy did his best to smear anyone he didn't like with baseless allegations of Communism?  It's true that Ike and several other prominent Republicans didn't like McCarthy and didn't play that game, but enough hysteria was created to ruin people's lives and hobble the left wing of the Democratic Party. And now the revisionists are trying to polish McCarthy's image.  These Happy Days are Yours and Mine!

The thing is, the McCarthy hearings had little effect on the 52 election. The Korean War did. Long before the 56 election, they became only a blip on the screen politically.  McCarthy's boozing put him in the hospital by then.  We do now know that Ike's worst political mistake was his deleting the part of a speech in Wisconsin that defended George Marshall against the bastard. Nobody gets a pass on this.

What I meant is that for the most part both parties talked to each other and compromised. Surely the bomb had a lot to do with it. Especially since Watergate, political civility has been hard to find. The Jerry Falwells have pretty much been responsible. Barry Goldwater hated them as much as anyone.
