Title: I.D.cards>>>>??????????
Post by Cathi04 on Aug 28th, 2004, 1:55pm
One of my favorite CHers ran into a nasty sitch the other night.  While at dinner with her husband, she got a sudden K10..ran to the restroom to do her thing..a lady came in, asked if she was ok.. my friend told her she'd be fine...this is an affliction..the lady left the restroom, and called the police!!!
The police were waiting for her as she returned, and if it werent for her husband, who explained to the "nice men" precisely what was going on, one of my fave people wouldve been hauled off to the hoosegow!
In typical clusterhead fashion, my friend is kinda laughing about all of this.......I, on the other hand, find myself STILL doing a slooow burn about this!
Would it be a good idea for all CHers to carry a nice lil laminated card, right next to their family photos...which clearly, but simply describes CH...and simple ways to help ..and that they are not druggies..and this is not a police sitch...
I know this cant be the first occcurence like this, and it surely wont be the last. This lil laminated card just MIGHT alleviate some of the pain...mostly the social pain..associated with CH...

Thoughts?????????????

I think Tracy (Roxy) had ID cards for ch available a while back.  Mostly they were to alert emergency about the dangers of nitroglycerin, but they would be effective in such an instance.

I'm asking the same question. What did she do to warrant the police being called?

What would they bust her for?

Simple. Today you are arrested first if you look or act "funny." It's fear of the unknown and insurance premiums.

It's very sad.

You can work up an ID card of sorts even if it's a generic thing from the pharmacy. Just havng meds, MDs and the problem listed can't hurt. Someone worked on an OUCH card didn't they?

I assume the lady saw her taking or preparing an injection?

The card is on the NHF site not the IHS.

I gave some CH Medic-alert card sample to someone at Convention...I don't know who ended up with em but I have them saved here on the ol puter...
Information contained herin is as follows:

A brief description of CH as well as emergency contact info, med info, insurance info and doctor's verification (all blank for individuals to fill in of course) blah blah blah...

So...if they need to be re-sent to different individuals, which is probably the case since administration has changed several times since then  ;) tell me who to send the file to and it shall be done.

If we did OUCH Membership cards, maybe this kind of information could be on the back side of the card.

Just a thought.

It is a shame that the 'land of the free' is coming down to this.

Best wishes, peace and PF's to all,

That is a great idea. I still have my OUCH membership card from years ago when it was first introduced.

If the card had a blank box where people could write down the list of medications they are on, that would be great too for both medical and legal reasons as well.

Peace,

I know who Cathi is talking about, and no, she wasn't doing an injection.  She was simply, banging her head.  Of course, to an outsider, they'd think she was on acid or somethin. ::)

I'm just glad everything turned out OK and that the cops were then "educated" afterwards.

Right, perhaps this should be incorporated into the ID cards..it would be nice to have a simple explanation as to what to expect, and perhaps a bit of verbiage regarding what someone can do to help out? (nothing)
ADditionally, informational brochures, and perhaps a ccchance to speak to the local police dept about CH..some education , would be quite helpful.

Yeah I understand completly.  I was in the church bathroom pacing and banging my head on the bathroom wall.  In  walks someone.  "Are you ok?"  "No, but I will be in a little while.  It will pass.  I get this all the time.  Don't worry about this.  I suffer from a condition called clusterheadaches."  What does the lady do but get the Pastors wife and two registered nurses in our church to come look on me.  I was so embarrased and mad at the same time.  What can you do?

I remember ya'll talkin bout this some time ago and I think it is a really good idea and have often thought to myself.....what will people think if Brad is out by himself and gets hit HARD....he can't cope but has drove home before and made it barely but looked like some rageing lunitic when he got home with kleenex held over one side of his face and red sagging eye.....which is running a race with his nose. He can't hardly talk and complete a sentence if hit hard enuff. So got to thinkin what if he had to pull over on sidea the road and someone saw him or cop stopped to question him or what if we were out and he ran out to the vehicle to wait it out.....and what if doin any of this he was seen doin an injection !?? I thought it mite be cool to even have a space for your doc or neuro to sign or even his number or some sort of hotline number to "EXPLAIN" or verify for you if bad enuff and in a real pickle. I mean if you got caught doin an injection in a parked vehicle frantically while out somewhere you could end up surrounded by a swat team ready to yank your ass to the ground thinkin they caught themselves a big fish. I KNOW it has happend with real drug busts.....you could get caught up in a mess in some of these Barny Fiffe towns wantin to nail druggies with full force fast and furious and get carried away. Protection correction Pam
