Title: Norwegian Medical Professionals Stunned! Post by Svenn on Aug 27th, 2004, 6:17pm Fellow Sufferers and Supporters: Good news abounds from this side of the pond. As you probably know, I was invited to speak at the annual Polarmed [ http://www.polarmed.no ]conference held in Sandefjord Norway on Wednesday, August 25th. I am pleased to provide this information as proof that CH education and interest ranks high among the medical community. In attendance were approximately 265 medical professionals including Neurologists, GP’s and nursing personnel. Being invited by Polarmed, I had a choice of whom I would be representing as I spoke, O.U.C.H., or the Norwegian HA Society. I chose to represent O.U.C.H., and wore an older-version of our O.U.C.H. t-shirt. I must state right off, that I was absolutely taken aback when I received a standing ovation from such a distinguished group. My participation consisted of several trips to the podium, where, amazingly I was able to capture the hearts and minds of all in attendance. Of course, I was not alone, standing in front of these medical professionals. I owe a lot to Chuck and Justin for providing me with a video of Chuck going through a CH attack. That, in and of itself, would have been enough information for the group. Some of these professionals had to leave the auditorium during the video and stated to me, in private conversation afterwards, that they walked out because they could not watch anyone in such extreme pain. The Professor of the Headache Center of Norway has requested permission to utilize the video of Chuck as a training tool in their curriculum for up and coming Neurologists. I related my own, personal story of what this disability has meant in my life and the impact it has had on family, friends and relationships far and wide. Talking about what a Godsend Oxygen has been, raised eyebrows and many questions later in the day. You see, none of these professionals realized how much 02 helps our sanity and existence. After providing my personal history and Chuck’s video, I had the opportunity to speak privately with the ‘guru of CH’ in Norway. His comment, “you just blew away my upcoming speech”. In short, he felt he could not top what I had just presented. The next item that simply blew the crowd away was the presentation of C.H.A.T.S. A direct quote from the head of Polarmed, “we have been searching for just such a tool for years”. I went prepared, and handed out 12 CD’s with the C.H.A.T.S. presentation. Once again, the Professor of the Norway HA Center was ‘blown away’, and requested a CD of C.H.A.T.S. He will be providing feedback from a medical professional perspective. There were a lot of private conversations during our breaks in the agenda, and since Polarmed is in the 02 field, most of these centered on our usage of oxygen. One technician related a story of an individual going through a 30-litre 02 tank per day. His question….”what’s up with that”, “Why ‘so’ much 02”? I explained that I too, would have no problem using such a quantity if the Beast is in major attack mode. Due to the overpowering presentations [Chuck’s hit, my personal story and C.H.A.T.S.], I have been invited to speak at upcoming events in Denmark and Sweden. I will provide specific dates of these events as soon as I receive formal invitations via snail mail. In closing, I would once again like to extend thanks to Chuck and Justin for the powerful video of a CH attack. I truly believe that the opportunity to educate the medical field of our debilitating disease exists on a broad level. As a sufferer and advocate for the cause you put together a most memorable dipiction of clusters that put the pain and suffering in their laps.
