Title: The Kama Sutra Incident.....
Post by Jeepgun on Aug 27th, 2004, 5:05pm
I was working part-time, while in high school, in a rather large bookstore that we'll call, "Narnes & Boble." An elderly woman comes in one afternoon, and asks for a book on Kama Sutra. She looks like someone's sunday school teacher! Gray skirt, sensible black shoes, black hose, black sweater with a string of pearls, glasses... I thought, Well, who am I to judge? so I led her to the aisle and pulled down a copy of the Kama Sutra from a high shelf and handed it to her. She opened it and leafed through a couple of pages, and then dropped the book, her face filled with rage, shock, and consternation. "I WANT A BOOK ON THE KAMA SUTRA!" she shouted angrily. I was taken aback, completely surprised yet again. She continued, "You know; the way you place things in rooms! Tables, beds, flowers, and fountains!" I burst out laughing so hard, I couldn't even speak. I had tears running down my face.... Through gasps, I explained that she was looking for a book on Feng Shui! Not the Kama Sutra! It was too late, though. She was already striding out of the bookstore.

I related the story to the manager who came in to tally the register and close up shop, and I thought he was going to have a thrombosis... He laughed so hard, I thought the poor man was going suffocate. He turned, honest to god, PURPLE.

LMMFAO on that one!

Reminds me of working at Blockbuster (CrockBlister) video back in '91. An old woman came in looking for two movies. One was for her and one was for her grandson.
It was hard to keep my composure when she asked for "Driving 'Em Hard" and "Killing Miss Daisy."
I said, "Ma'am, I believe the two movies you're looking for are "Hard to Kill" and "Driving Miss Daisy."
We both laughed, and I think she was embarrassed when she realized what she had said.

Peace,
Carl

Excellent tales!

For the classical music buffs among you - both supposedly true.

1.

Scene - record store; Saturday serving assistant operating checkout:

"Can I have a copy of the Verdi Requiem please?"
"Which Verdi sir? Giuseppe or Monty?"

2.

Letter to music publisher:

"Could I please have a copy of Franck's Penis Angelicus?"

Reply from quick-witted secretary:

"I'm afraid this is not one of our pubications."

LOL! She looked like someone's pissed-off grandmother. Later, I felt sorry for her. I wonder if someone deliberately told her that the Chinese art of placement was called, "Kama Sutra." (And if they did, she left the bookstore to go kick some ass!)  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Actually, the Kama Sutra does have chapters on arranging flowers and interior decorating.  It is more about arts and lifestyle than sex, though it should not be confused with feng shui, kung fu, or tofu. That lady got what she deserved.

Quote:
The Kamasutra claimed that the preliminaries to sexual intercourse involve sixty-four elements, probably because they were sixty-four chapters. The arts number sixty-four, and form part of the practice of love. In short, the well-rounded lover in ancient India was conversant and competent in things such as flower arranging, playing music, games of the times, creating environments, war, and economics, just to name a few.
