Title: Clean-up time.... Post by Donna H. on Aug 15th, 2004, 10:34pm The west coast of Florida looks like the east coast did when Andrew hit. Charlies' death toll will be surprising when the clean up is over. A mobile home crew called for 60 body bags and said they might need more......it just goes on and on. I am just about 12 miles from the total destruction. I lost 80 feet of privacy fence and one large palm tree which fell onto a boat in the next yard. My kids and grandchildren stayed at ones' apartment in North Port trying to move out of the direct path, only to move right into the eyewall of the storm as it changed directions (again). They watched a lines of large trees just snap off, one after another in sequence. They were in 130 mile per hour winds.....it had died down on its' way from Charlotte Harbour. They were awestruck by the force of the wind. I was working on the island of Venice when the winds first hit 45 and the officials closed down all bridges and locked-down the hospital. No one enters, no one leaves. We received over 200 special-needs people dependent on 02 before the storm hit. Our family made it without any real harm. We are so lucky....... I've lived here 20 years now, and this is the first hurricane (and hopefully the last) I've seen up close. Now there's another one out there on the same path as Charlie. We should know by Thursday if it looks like it will turn or not. |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by Gator on Aug 15th, 2004, 10:58pm I'd come down and help you with the clean up, but...uh...my back...uh...and my uh...knee, yeah, that's it. My back and my knee are hurting something awful. Oh Oh and my elbow. Yeah. My elbow hurts too and and and... [smiley=laugh.gif] I am saddened by those who died, but I am happy that you and your family are okay. It's hard to imagine you living there 20 years and never having to go through this before. You've had your one, now. Hopefully you never have to meet another one face to face. Gator |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by Charlie on Aug 15th, 2004, 11:11pm Thanks Donna. Yikes. I'm glad you're all right. Englewood is the only place I've spent some time in Florida. Lots of locals moved there in the 70s. I didn't realize until last night that you got so hammered. Get lots of help filling those dumpsters kid. Charlie |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by Donna H. on Aug 15th, 2004, 11:29pm Thanks for thinking about me, kids. When I pulled into my park and saw the first mobile home in a shambles, I just knew my place was gone....but, thank God, when I turned the bend, it was still there. Out of the four homes on the far outer corners of the park, two were safe.....one being mine. None of the others suffered any more than gutters and downspouts ripped off. Again, thanks for your concern. Love ya's |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by Donna H. on Aug 15th, 2004, 11:35pm Neat picture, Carrie. Siesta Key....winner of the "whitest sand" award. Been there a few times, but stay a little closer to home. I've been the happy recepient of a number of clusterhead guests twice and we've enjoyed Englewood Beach and Manasota Beach a few times. (And the Tiki Bar, and Boca Grande and.........) Born and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio area, but sure do love Florida. |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by Lizzie2 on Aug 15th, 2004, 11:42pm Where near Cleveland?? LOL I used to live outside Cleveland in Vermilion, OH. Hardly anyone has ever heard of it. Beautiful little town right on Lake Erie. :) I do love the sand on Siesta Key!! I have such great memories of going there my whole life. For awhile we even went twice a year. I had a friend stay in Englewood once, and I got together with her for the day. My cousin and his wife live on the mainland in Sarasota. The rest of my Florida family lives up in Clearwater/Tampa area. Now I really want to visit again!! Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Clean-up time.... Post by karma on Aug 16th, 2004, 10:52am I would't worry to much about Earl. Hurricane models have it tracking over the Yucatan and then towards Mexico. Its now been downgraded to a tropical wave but may build slowly again. |
