Title: Insurance Crisis
Post by Lizzie2 on Aug 13th, 2004, 2:05pm
Somehow something got screwed up.  I went to fill my lithium script at the pharmacy (I have a little left, but I needed to get the next script in just in case they had to order it.)  The pharmacist tried to run it through and it came back that my insurance was cancelled.  She called Aetna and they said that Jefferson cancelled it as of 7/31.  Wow...

So I went and saw the rep here and she said that it is a mistake.  She said I paid every bill that was given to me.  My first bill had incorrect dates on it, so that could be why the coverage was terminated.  She assures me that this will not count as a "break in coverage" and that they will not be able to deny my meds and bills due to preexisting condition because it is their mistake.

I'm really scared.  And uninsured.  For the time being.

This is just really really sucky......

Lizzie

You need to get a hold of your state's insurance commisioner. I saw something on the news the other day about each state having one.
I did a google search
I don't know what state you are in. Someone needs to get involved to help you. They are just giving you the runaround. In the mean time if you have to pay for lithium it is pretty cheap by what I can gather.

Insurance companies
They are all a bunch of bastards!!

Things will work out kiddo!!

I know this is kinda risky (maybe) but I'll ask/comment.

When my sister was in Nursing school and a certain emergency came about of which she needed meds and was in a similar situation. there were "people" who were always able to "help"

She is in no way a junky or a seeker but was in a desperate situation of which colleagues risked themselves for her so that she was able to get by until all worked out.

Just curious...

All will work itself out

Hey Carrie, prayers and good vibes going your way.  Breaking coverage is a pisser.  That's why I am holding on to the 1500.00 check to make sure while unemployed I continue coverage.  Don't really have the money to cover ..... but gotta have coverage.  Life is a bitch ...... and then you move on.

Oh shit.... Lizzie, that sucks. You've been through hell and back with these ass-clowns, lately. Here's hoping that it all clears up soon. Also, you might follow Jayne's suggestion of finding your insurance commissioner and making a phone call or writing a nice, long, heartfelt letter. Hang in there... [smiley=hug.gif]

Hi Lizzie,

I had a break-in-coverage once.  They said it was mistake too and fixed right there when I went to ask about it.  Could it be it's fixed already? I don't know I'm just asking.

Big vibes going to you and hope this works out.

Jayne is right.

All you can do is keep battering the powers that be until you get to the one who has nowhere to pass the buck.

Shouldn't happen  >:(

Good luck kid.

Thanks all for the info and ideas.  I appreciate it!

The latest update is that we are possibly going to somehow get me back on my mom's insurance.  It's more expensive, but worth it.  Also, I've requested a packet of info on the BC/BS student insurance plan.  Even though it is still student insurance, it is probably better than Aetna HMO.  We'll see!

I bookmarked the PA Insurance Commissioner website.  Thanks for the idea, Jayne. :)

Hugz,
Carrie :)
