The USS Cole was docked in the port of Aden, Yemen for refueling on 12 October 2000, when a small craft pulled along side the ship and exploded killing 17 US Navy Sailors.
Attacking a US War Ship is an act of war, but we sent the FBI to investigate the crime and went back to sleep.

And of course you know the events of 11 September 2001. Most Americans think this was the first attack against US soil or in America. How wrong they are. America has been under a constant attack since 1979 and we chose to hit the snooze alarm and roll over and go back to sleep.

In the news lately we have seen lots of finger pointing from every high officials in government over what they knew and what they didn't know. But if you've read the papers and paid a little attention I think you can see exactly what they knew. You don't have to be in the FBI or CIA or on the National Security Council to see the pattern that has been developing since 1979.

The President is right on when he says we are engaged in a war. I think we have been in a war for the past 23 years and it will continue until we as a people decide enough is enough.

America needs to "Get out of Bed" and act decisively now. America has been changed forever. We have to be ready to pay the price and make the sacrifice to ensure our way of life continues. We cannot afford to keep hitting the snooze button again and again and roll over and go back to sleep.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto said "...it seems all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant." This is the message we need to disseminate to terrorists around the world.

Support Our Troops and support President Bush for having the courage, political or militarily, to address what so many who preceded him didn't have the backbone to do both Democrat and Republican. This is not a political thing to be hashed over in an election year this is an AMERICAN thing. This is about our Freedom and the Freedom of our children in years to come.

Saw William F. Buckley hawking a literary autobiography this afternoon. He said the big problem is that this kind of thing on this scale is new to us.

He also said that our response would be different if there were some general sacrifice. There isn't any form of rationing or constant reminder other than cable news which spends its time in California courtrooms.

Maybe we need to be reminded of the casualties, both domestic and military.

Always enjoy listening to him.

Charlie, I agree with you. Too many older people trying too hard to forget and for the younger ones, it's hard to remember what you are too young to have seen. People are so deep into so-called reality shows they wouldn't know real life if it punched them in the nose. There needs to be some reminders of the attacks against us in full, gory, bloody color. As if flying airplanes into buildings wasn't reminder enough.

And while we're on the subject of "them people of color" - Since 1979 our attackers haven't been white or black or hispanic or asian or native american or european, they have been muslims from middle eastern countries. So if there's more than just a little resentment and suspision towards that particular demographic excuse the fuck out of the people who are intelligent enough to recognize that.

The lunatics who slammed the WTC no more follow Islam than I. bin Laden is Jesse James. Those who sign up with him are a very few destitute, uneducated, and for want of a better term: Children. We have them here too but with entertainment from the Cartoon Network and fast food to temper our misanthropes. Carpet bombing is the wrong approach.

It is convenient though. Throughout history so-called leaders have used fear for their own purposes. We have our own examples with the Alien and Sedition
Acts, Red Scare, and McCarthy hearings.

What we need are spooks who speak Arabic, not domestic Poliezi who destroy our friend's luggage.

No matter how hard we try, we will never be nor have we ever been 100% safe.

One thing I know and believe with all my heart is that Osama is nothing more then the second Hitler. Him and Sadam(SP? and who really cares) are both of the same line as Hitler and his gang.

We as a people (the rest of the world) need to learn to stand up against this or it will never go away. We all have our own radicals of some religon but some take care of it better then others. A war that has gone on for hundreds of years has been spilling out into other nations and now we wake up enough to try to stop it just a bit to late. It is time that America wakes up and realizes that if we do not stand up and keep fighting that we all will lose.

The fight is real and it has a purpose....Freedom or death...you pick.

Just keep your eyes on the target. There are one billion Muslims in the world and not all of them Arabs. We need to use common sense. It isn't plausible n infinitesimal number of wackos who violate the teachings of tke Koran. The great majority of them are too busy trying stay alive to care about what we do.

It's like the Klan murdering and proposing genocide as a solution in the name of Christ. The parallels are striking.

Except the klan never flew an airplane into a building or put poison gas in a mass transit system. They aren't contemplating the extermination of all "non-whites" in the entire world, just the ones in their own demeted little corner of the world. As far as that goes, if they could just get the "non-whites" to leave on their own they wouldn't give chase.

What you say is right "Just keep your eyes on the target." Unfortunately, the target in this case is hard to discern from all those people who are trying to go about their daily lives just surviving. I don't think ALL Muslims are out to get us, but if you look real close you will see it is Radical Islamic Extremists from Middle Eastern countries who are the terrorists doing the attacking. This has nothing to do with a president or a political party. Go back and read through Dave's post and then think about all the conflicts and wars world-wide. You'd do well to find more than 3 where Muslims are not involved. So again I say, if there's more than just a little resentment and suspision towards that particular demographic excuse the fuck out of the people who are intelligent enough to recognize that.
