Title: After much thought and consideration... Post by Carl_D on Aug 7th, 2004, 9:42pm I have decided to make another attempt at doing a benefit concert for OUCH. OUCHfest '03 was a disaster for many reasons, but as they say, if at first you don't succeed, try and try again. This time, I will not be performing. My first attempt at OUCHfest I performed with two acts, emceed, organized, and did all the media running to no avail. I had lazy bandmates who took no initiative to help out, and the weight of the event fell on me - needless to say, I was crushed - lol. The only good thing to come of OUCHfest was that I got to meet DJ and Kelli, although it was brief. My brothers best friend, Todd Jones (who is also a friend of mine, as well as a former bandmate in a short-lived band that did a benefit for a friend of mine with Hodgkins) has a country rock band called "Well Hungarians." They are HUGE right now here in the midwest, and are about to break out BIGTIME! They are already receiving International airplay, and play all over the country. I am going to talk to Todd and Johnny Holzum sometime this week to see if they will perform for the event. If so, there will be no other band needed to play, as they pack the house everywhere they go. I can't make any promises, yet - but after knowing Todd for about 24 years (he was the one who got me started playing guitar) he has seen what I go through with Clusters, and I'm sure he'd be willing to do a show for us. If they clear it with their management and it's a go... lookout for OUCHFest '05. Also, if the ground is laid for the event, I will be enlisting a few friends to help organize and promote the event. I learned the hard way last year that I am only one man and I can't do everything. It will be a big relief for me though not performing as I won't have to worry about rehearsals, recording and all that eating up and competing for my time. Although my first attempt at this was a disaster, I learned many lessons from it and believe they will help me to avoid the same mistakes in the future. Wish me luck, Carl D Check out their website at www.wellhungarians.net My brother is also their website manager and does all of their graphics. He took over the site when it was just a couple of pages and re-designed and built the whole thing. I think he did a pretty nifty job. |

Title: Re: After much thought and consideration... Post by alleyoop on Aug 7th, 2004, 10:44pm DAMN CARL, you little fu#k, ain't nothin' to it. Hell, I used to put on mini pop-festivals back in the late '60s & early '70s! All I'd do is find a big field I could use, invite a few bands, distribute a few thousand fliers and let 'er rip! Clean-up was always a biatch, though! Seriously though, you've got me excited! Sounds like you've got the entertainment pegged, too! Let me know what I can do to help out. ....................................................alley 1 |
