Title: In a 80's kinda mood.....
Post by Racer1_NC on Aug 4th, 2004, 1:31am
Sometimes someone else's words tell on your soul better than your own.......

Head Over Heals
Go-Go's

Been running so long
I've nearly lost all track of time
In every direction
I couldn't see the warning signs
I must be losin' it
'Cause my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive

Been running so fast
Right from the starting line
No more connections
I don't need any more advice
One hand's just reaching out
And one's just hangin' on
It seems my weaknesses
Just keep going strong

Head over heels
Where should I go
Can't stop myself
Outta control
Head over heels
No time to think
Looks like
The whole world's out of sync

Been running so hard
When what I need is to unwind
The voice of reason
Is one I left so far behind
I've waited so long
So long to play this part
And just remembered
That I'd forgotten about my heart

Head over heels
Where should I go
Can't stop myself
Outta control
Head over heels
No time to think
Looks like
The whole world's out of sync

I'll second that. Since I can't sleep I'm in a 2002 mood and listening to the Coldplay CD - A Rush of Blood to the Head - over and over and over and over and over and...
you get the idea.

80's bands/music RULED... (Especially after the disco debacle of the late 70's!) Go-Go's, Tina Turner, Pointer Sisters, The Cars, Corey Hart, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, U2, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Dio, Motley Crue, Don Henley, all of the Miami Vice stuff, Berlin, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Katrina & The Waves, Stevie Nicks, The Smiths, Murray Head, The Cure.... On and on and on... Fabulous explosion of talent...

Ah, the 80's.

I was more of a Sisters of Mercy (Up to Floodland), The Cure, The Cult, March Violets,  Fields Of The Nephilim, Bauhaus, Lords of the New Church, Damned, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dead Can Dance, Bauhaus, Christian Death, Strawberry Swtichblade, Depeche Mode, London After Midnight, Tones on Tail, Love & Rockets, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins kind of guy...

I still love Goth Night at the local club... Something very sexy about girls in black lipstick and carrying metal lunch boxes... Sigh...

The Church, Motels, Bauhaus, Psychedelic Furs, Oingo Boingo... Blue Oyster Cult's album, "Imaginos." WOW!!

Sisters Of Mercy's, "Vision Thing," kicks ASS, Hirvi! Buy it and give it a few spins. It grows on you.

Er, buy? . . . Oh! Right! That's when you go to a store, right? Do people still do that? ;) How I surived before MP3's I will never know.

I still have a crush on Siouxsie Sioux (Witch Janet...) :)

Though I can't claim to wax nostalgic on Go-Go's music, does it count that I and three friends dressed up as the Go-Go's for a talent contest in highschool? Admitedly there was no talent involved, but the nuns were mortified! Only the Rocky Horror Picture Show made drag more fun...

Good times. Good times.

LOL! Okay... Uh... Go to your favorite file sharing program and download, "Vision Thing," "Dr. Jeep," "Ribbons," "Detonation Boulevard," "I Was Wrong," "More," "I Don't Exist (When You Don't See Me), and anything else you can find off of that album. The whole album is kick-ass. A bit of a departure from "Floodland," but really damn cool.

When I think 80's I think...

Ozzy Osbourne, (old) Metallica, Megadeth, Dead Kennedys, The Cure, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, The Vapors, Gary Numan, Bowie (timeless in any decade!), Queensryche (Mindcrime is an epic!!!), Duran Duran, The Bangles, D.R.I., Van Halen, Bauhaus, All, SLAYER, R.E.M., The Rolling Stones (again, timeless), Greg Khin, The birth of Weird Al, Scorpions, Trouble, U2, Madame X ( thier song, "You're high in high school" was our anthem.)
I could go on and on.

But mostly when I think of the 80's...
I start feeling old.

Peace,
Carl D

Nada thing, Big Dan! But the 80's is when it first came into vogue in the US. :)

and breakdancing...parachute pants...Madonna....

and I'll never forget the night my brother told me they were starting an all music channel at 1am. I had the channel on when it was still a test pattern...saw it fade...
and the rocketship started to take off as you heard the theme music... the Birth of MTV with the prophetic song "Video Killed The Radio Star" by Buggles.

Before MTV you could look like you just soaked in horse manure but people didn't care as long as they could rock to the music (and get it on!)
Then Videos came out, and it was all about image, look, etc. What I hated was the fact that, prior to MTV, I could listen to music and my mind soared with visuals and dreams. Then when videos came out, it kind of erased that. Then, when you heard of a song, instead of your mind wandering into unchartered realms, you automatically thought of the video. Kind of killed imagination a bit. Videos also killed a few careers. For example:
Billy Squier ROCKED! I sat down and learned every note of the Don't Say No album on guitar as a lad. Then, an awesome song came out called "Rock Me Tonight" and it was KILLED by his gay prancy striptease and generic tearing off of shirt, etc.

Now everytime I hear that song I think:

Yep, you all got me feeling that way, I still consider the 80's, new music.  I got as many years before 1980 as there have been since.  But the eighties did prolong the youth in life pretty well.  Reflecting is great, as long as it ain't a mirror now.
