I got that this morning...didn't open it though 'cause I thought it contained a virus.  There was an attachment with that e-mail...wasn't there?

Paypal did send out a notice regarding a class action suit against it on Wednesday. http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y04/m07/i30/s01

I occassionaly use paypal, but don't think they have ripped me out of much money (if at all).  I paid a modest fee for a few transactions and am satisfied with them.  The ATM racket, on the other hand, I have some gripes with.

Got sent an email with a clever virus this week - it was forged as being from the postmaster at my work domain, said my machine was infected and being used as a spam relay, please follow the enclosed instructions to remedy the problem.  Of course, my company is pretty small and this letter was too generic -  a real notice would have included a name of a person I knew (and would have come through groupware, not email).  But I bet some people at big companies fell for it.

Thanks floridian, for that link.  This is from that link and basically says it all concerning any e-mail messages anyone receives:

Quote:
PayPal account holders should be wary of hoaxes that attempt to capitalize on confusion stemming from the settlement notice and subsequent publicity. Users should not click on links in an email to access any site purporting to be from PayPal or involving the lawsuit. Do not click on links in this or any other email, rather, type in the URL, https://www.paypal.com/settlement. The settlement forms do not require detailed account information, personal financial information or passwords.

Be careful out there!

I received it as well......supposedly from my ISP. Totally bogus, but a very good spoof....all the header info was correct, or very close to correct. I imagine it had a very good success rate.....damn it.

It's been awhile but I got a thing that said some clown screwed me with Paypal for a billhead he won at ebay. Evidently he screwed them too.

I was supposed to give them the specifics of that ebay deal. Not me. It would have taken me all damn day to find it and write it up. Not worth it for $8.95. Jeesh.

Maybe I dodged a bullet?

My brother explained the whole thing to me tonight with the whole "class action suit" (he's a tekkie) and said, it is for persons who had thier Paypal account suspended for a period due to forgotten passwords, etc.
The settlement amounts to something incredible like a whopping check for a couple of dollars and some change.
He was suspended at one point when he forgot his password, and the only way he could get it reactivated was to receive his info by snail-mail. No big whoop.

But do be wary, as the official notices went out to affected persons LAST WEEK, and todays may have been a copycat.

Delete and disregard emails that are suspicious or have attachments.

Peace,
Carl D
