Title: Privacy !!! (Non CH) Post by UN_SOLVED on Jul 28th, 2004, 7:12pm I can't believe how much the government can do to invade our privacy. Check this out!!! YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE Check your driver's license...OK, this is just too much! Can you say "privacy?" As in, "where is our right to it???" I definitely removed mine, I suggest you all do the same ...Now you can see anyone's Driver's License on the Internet, including your own! I just searched for mine and there it was...picture and all! Maybe we should start up a petition or something protesting this. What do you think? Go to the website and check it out. It's unbelievable!!! Just enter your name, city and state to see if yours is on file. After your license comes on the screen, click the box marked "Please Remove." This will remove it from public viewing, but not from law enforcement. http://www.license.shorturl.com/ Unsolved |

Or because I use Netscape instead of IE? I just get a page that says I'm "FORBIDDEN" access to the server! Maybe ... I'm on a list of the ten most wanted? ... Hugs, Kris |

Title: Re: Privacy !!! (Non CH) Post by Samantha_Smith on Jul 28th, 2004, 11:03pm Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe law enforcement wanted to have a centralized data bank of driver licenses so if they pulled someone over for speeding in MA but the person had a VT license (and an outstanding warrant) they would know and be able to detain him/her. Again, I may be incorrect but I was told that VT and NY had shared a databank of driver license info but law enforcement was frustrated because they didn't have access to all of the other states info. So now you basically have nowhere to hide if you have an outstanding warrant, ticket, etc. Just hope that you don't get pulled over or asked for your driver's license (if your a criminal.) When this law went into effect I remember I was getting my Class B Commercial Driver's License and my driving instructor would constantly complain about this law. |

Title: Re: Privacy !!! (Non CH) Post by Samantha_Smith on Jul 29th, 2004, 1:36pm Superpain-- Yes, most states communicate THESE days (but not all of them.) I was referring to a time when law enforcement agencies could not share information pre-2000. This act , "The American Driver's License Identification Act" was enacted on July 9, 2000. BEFORE that date it was easier for a criminal to evade detection because there was no (or few) centralized data banks of driver's licenses. Before this Act was put into place, if a VT driver with an outstanding warrant in VT was pulled over in RI then the RI police would have little idea that this person was wanted by VT authorities. That's all I'm saying--BEFORE July 9, 2000 it was hard for law enforcement to share info. Samantha |

Title: Re: Privacy !!! (Non CH) Post by BobG on Jul 29th, 2004, 3:24pm Get this.... Here in Nevada if you do not want you social security number on your driver's license you can opt out and a (they claim) random number will be assigned. But the catch is there is a mathematical formula that, I can't remember right now, by multiplying/dividing the answer you will get will be your social security number. [smiley=furious.gif] Big Brother is watching. |
