I work in retail....I no longer fear hell. I have worked in retail for about 4 years now, I am now a manager....I am so burnt out. Why would anyone call a manager to yell at them about a price being 2 cents more than what the tag shows. Just politely ask, no need to yell or use foul language. Any why not go put something back where you found it? How hard are these tasks?
I hate Christmas for the simple fact that I work in retail. Why do people wait til December 24th to shop and then yell at you when you're out of the item that they want? I want to look at them and yell, "Well, if you hadn't have waited til the last possible moment to shop them maybe we wouldn't be out, DUMBASS!" And the meaning of Christmas has been lost by all of the presents. (I prefer gift certificates, lol)
If the store messes up on something, politely ask us to compensate you for your trouble, do not yell at us, we are trying to help you. Being polite goes much further with me than yelling at me and ripping me a new not a very nice person.
Most of the time I would like to ask the "not a very nice person" customers where they work and go yell at them at their place of business and make myself look like a complete idiot and bitch in front of many people.
I am just very burnt out right now and my vacation is in 2 weeks and posting this has relieved some stress.
This in no way is meant to offend anyone, just a rant to get things off of my chest.

If you've ever worked retail please read "Nickel and Dimed: On (not) Making It In America" by Barbara Ehrenreich. It will make you laugh untill your gut hurts and you'll pee your pants too. I promise.

Try dealing with the public with a small dog kennel.......you wouldn't believe the people I get here or calls I get. People call and bring there entire families to look at pups and let the kids rip up my rec room and run and scream....or some come and stay forever.......then tell me they are just looking and not ready for a dog yet. They just came to get there fix and for something to do........not Disney World Pam

As a male of the species I wait until the 24th for specific reasons:

Selection is smaller making for a quicker decision.
Crowds are smaller allowing for additional clerk assistance.
Parking is better.
More fellow male shoppers at the mall bar and grill. Ideas on what to buy abound.
Clerks willing to assit me just to get me the hell out of the store.

I won't deny you that day, but don't yell at people that work there if they are out of what you're looking for. And don't forget, a lot of people like gift certificates ;)

I prefer to shop online cause people just piss me off in the stores, especially at Christmas. People are just so rude and inconsiderate and clueless. I have a very short fuse so it is best for me to just stay out of the mall. Once every 6 months does it for me.

Good thing you ducked, I was gonna throw something at ya. And no, it's not a bonus.

Last year at Christmas I sold so much cologne and perfume that by the time I got home I smelled like a cheap hooker. ;)

The solution to the mad shopping in the Maul at Christmas is simple. Become Jewish.

And as a bonus, the Jewish have wonderful food during their holidays. Not the same ol dry ham/turkey/duck crap.

I usually get my shopping done early, or else I do it on-line. Nothing kills my Christmas spirit faster than fighting the mobs at the mall. Good grief.... People are INSANE! And RUDE!!

I'm never rude to clerks. Just watching them during the mad rush... Damn, they've got it rough!

My 20 yrs experience in the hospitality industry (restaurants) is not dissimilar.... I can feel your pain on this one. how are you supposed to accomodate someone who has absolutely NO idea what they really want? No matter what your title is...the job doesnt pay near enough for what you endure.

Ever consider a career as a postal carrier? I have ;;D

Hey, I could use some cash too. Put me on your list as well. My boyfriend used to give cash as presents, but I kinda got him out of that phase. All of his friends and family thank me for that now.

Here Kimmy, I have some more crackers for ya.

If you have been like me I never got an official lunch break, so I had to eat while working.
You bite into your sandwhich and some bespectaled old broad comes up "errrr miss, I have a question"
So you put your sandwhich down and resist the urge to roll your eyes. You walk all the way to the other end of the show room with her, and she picks up a $7 candle and says "what's this made of?"

Or you get some yammering woman, who has nothing better to do than to corner you with verbal diharea. She knows your cornered, because no one else will listen to her. So she goes on for an hour and tells you about every single thing in her house, and she walks away with a $5 candle, leaving you in a coma.

This one has to be my PET PEEVE though.
It's 4.58 and you know it's two minutes to freedom.
Then some pillock walks in the door and says, "I know your getting ready to close, I'll be really quick" RIGHT!!!!

So then you close at 5.20 because the pillock decided to keep you late and not buy anything. Your locking the door and some manicured ice queen walks up and says in a tone that goes right through you, "you're already closing????"

I have many many more....retail can burn you out big time.
One word of advice, just make sure everything is priced, because people love to come and find you, make you run around like a blue arsed fly to find out what the price is...not because they want to buy it.....just because they can.

Kimmie, hun I feel for ya BIG time. Worked retail for 15 LOOOOOOOOOOONG yrs and if I had to work retail EVER again I know I WOULD kill someone. I think EVERYONE should work with the public just 1 day and they would know first hand how it feels to never sit still, be on your feet for 12 hour shirts cuz your co worker decided to call in sick, have someone yell and call you names in front of the entire store, have a boss who wont handle things even though they have the word "manager" on a tag, and you STILL have to be nice. YEA RIGHT!!! I TRY really hard to nice to those working retail cuz hun, Ive the scares from the box cutters and messed up feet to prove it. LOL
