Title: A society out of control
Post by notseinfeld on Jul 24th, 2004, 1:59pm
Even if one is a 'supporter' certainly we can agree there's something disgusting about this:

Not good.

Society is not out of control but both sides of this issue too often go over the top.

One should choose their side and be proud of it. Give me someone who has chosen a side and is convicted to it. I know where they stand. It's the lukewarm that disgust me.

Opposed to aborting people at any age

Neither do I and I know several who have had it done. It isn't easy, sometimes it's medically necessary but is sure isn't easy.

I screws up politics too.

Oh how sad was that...

I volunteer at a non profit, nationwide Christian crisis pregnancy center called "Care Net" which educates women (and men) regarding their choices when they are pregnant.  It also educates women (and men) about the  long term and short term effects of abortion which Planned Parenthood rarely does.  They have a wonderful P.A.T.H. program--Post Abortion Teaching and Healing.  It addresses the guilt, shame and sadness that women can sometimes experience. They also have a great support group for MEN who have wives, girlfriends who have had abortions.  YES!  Abortion affects men also.  I have seen it. If the woman chooses to carry the baby to term the center offers them parenting classes, free clothing, cribs, etc and gets them in touch with other women in similar circumstances.  If they choose to abort then they can return and  join the P.A.T.H. group if they want.

Few causes touch my heart more than crisis pregnancies and abortions.  Samantha

Did I hear flames in the background?

Wow.  I don't know what to say.  That is gotta be one of the worst fundraising ideas I have ever heard.  It is definately not something to be proud of .

I do however like the bumper stickers that say "Abortion Stops A Beating Heart".

sad to lose any baby at any age for any reason...............Little Deb

All very fine but it's very rare that any of these zealots will actually foot the bills, raise the child, or REALLY help the family. That's the hard part and it doesn't help the cause.

Although I'm not religious, you have to admire the Catholics. At least they are consistent. They don't believe in abortion or the death penalty.

From a man's standpoint, and from the standpoint of one who used to be in the medical field, I'm glad that the choice is available in a medically safe environment, when the procedure is unavoidable. Certainly, I don't agree with it as a means of birth control, but abortions have been going on since the beginning of time. Certain women are going to have them, whether they go to a clinic, or go to a back-alley coathanger shop. At least in a medical environment, the woman actually stands a chance of surviving.

In some cases I'm for abortion.  But only if performed retroactively.

This is one of those times.

Jeep, I agree with you, but just hate that it does happen at all, for the child's sake.

Charlie, I know a good many Catholics that have had abortions or demanded that their girlfriends have abortions so that they wouldn't be embarrassed having a child out of wedlock.

I believe every person has to make their own choices in life including what they believe in with respect to religion.  And then they have to live with and die with their decisions.  It is between them and their God if they have one.

And I hope no women ever has to resort to a back alley abortion, although I am sure it still happens.

I believe all life is sacred and life begins at conception.  I wish today our education stessed that a little more.  And I wish there were not any unwanted pregnancies, and I wish more unwanted pregnancies resulted in adoption by loving families.

Well...................I don't know what happened....didn't mean to jump on the happy bandwagon.  Shutting up now.

still living in reality :-/..........................Little Deb

The endless bickering, disgustinig rants, name calling, wasted time and money, deaths, (even the death near Buffalo of an MD by a sniper) awful internet pictures, nasty bumper stickers, disgusting t-shirts, and of course all the beautiful people who make sure their children are part of this, makes me so proud.

Even for those opposing abortion, this crap has brought out the worst of us and is worse than the act.

I did check the PP site, and those T-shirts are available.  Not sure that it is 'news' in the traditional sense, but perhaps worthy of analysis and commentary.

Deaths from amateur-performed abortions were one of the major factors in Roe vs. Wade. I am not condoning the practice of abortion, and this will be my final comment on this thread, because this discussion is one of those that will never end. There ARE cases where abortion is necessary, due to the life of the mother being in jeopardy, rape, incest, etc. There are women who will choose to have them due to accidental pregnancy. I still think it's the woman's choice, and if she chooses to have an abortion, I'm glad that the procedure is available in a medically safe environment. I will not cast moral judgment one way or the other. I am speaking only from a clinical point of view.

Rev, in the future, to keep ultra-long URL's from totally screwing up everyone's browsers, go to tinyurl.com and paste the URL. It will generate a MUCH shorter URL to the same address.

I don't have a problem with this tee shirt if they put the following message on the back of it.

"I murdered my defensless baby because I don't have the time to raise a child right now but I'm to irresposible to have sex without getting pregnant."

Flame me!!!

I don't care!!!

ABORTION IS MURDER OF YOUR OWN CHILD!!!!!!!

As some of my medical friends have said, no one like it but....without the option, there would be tens of thousands more of late-term abortions, dumpsters full of newborns, dead mothers, thousands of people in prisons, even more overworked police, overworked courts, even more millions spent in legal battles, more psychos running around with firearms, even more millions misspent by zealots contributing to the cause..or so they are told, and a run on knitting needles. Ugly stuff.

Take your pick.

Anyone who wears a shirt like that is sick in the head! As a former foetus - I oppose abortion. I also oppose people who stand outside abortion clinics holding grotesque large signs of aborted foetus while bible-bashing people exiting the building with comments like "You're going to be sorry" and "You're a murderer." I walked passed some such individuals who held signs outside the Hope Clinic for women here in town one day. They were shouting stuff, and I said to the guy who was holding a sign of an aborted child "Thanks for making me want to hurl my breakfast."
I'm sorry, but I fail to see "Christ's Love" in that kind of bashing. I realize that for some, they have to abort for a medical issue. I agree with Jeep, sometimes it is medically necessary, but shouldn't be used as a form of birth control.

What I find most interesting in the abortion debate is this: If a woman chooses to have an abortion, it is considered a choice, and the fetus is not recognized as a living being. However, if you hit a woman while she is pregnant, and she loses the baby, they call it murder. Now is THAT a double standard or what?

Peace,
Carl D

I don't think that holding up pictures of aborted children, yelling demeaning remarks, blocking entrances to clinics, murdering the doctors that perform abortions or harrassment in general is demonstrating "Christ's love."

Well, I think wearing a shirt, or sporting a bumper sticker like that is just saying,, " Hey, come kick my ass!"  Some opinions are just better kept to your self. Very sore subject, don't get me started.

Of course some make the case that in a lot, not all, cases, anyone anxious for an abortion would likely not be a good parent and it would be cruel to the child.

Lotta holes in this but it's no worse than most of the crap on bumper stickers.

Right. "save" them and forget them.

And they can "save" them again when they are older and maybe make enough to contribute to the cause.
