JOHNSON II, AP NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 21) - A sport utility vehicle exploded in a parking lot at the Opryland hotel, killing a man inside, and authorities said they suspected a homemade bomb. The blast occurred late Tuesday about a half-mile from the main entrance of the 2,881-room Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, and about 200 feet from a day care center that was closed for the night, said Jim Cavanaugh of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police said the blast was felt miles away, and it left nothing but a shell of the vehicle. Investigators from the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force were at the scene, but FBI agent Doug Riggin said there was no reason to suspect terrorism. The victim was a 43-year-old man from suburban Williamson County, said police spokesman Don Aaron. He said investigators went to search the man's home Wednesday but did not immediately find any family members to interview. Authorities suspect a homemade bomb. ''At this point, we just don't know. It could have been homicide or suicide or the guy may have just blown himself up,'' said police Detective Brad Putnam. The theater used by the famed Grand Ole Opry is on the hotel grounds and there is an adjacent shopping mall. ''We haven't got a lot of calls from guests, but we are addressing any concerns they may have,'' hotel spokeswoman Karen Hunter-Lowery said. The day care center, La Petite Academy Kid Station, also is owned by Gaylord Opryland. The center's nearness to the blast ''does raise some concerns,'' Tonya McCoy said as she dropped off a nephew at the center Wednesday morning. ''Anything that's close, makes you wonder if it's associated with the day care.'' They miss us so bad, they're blowing themselfs up. Or else we drove them insane. Mike |

(I didn't say that) Souvineers..... !!! Bunch of punks had a meth lab in the hotel room next to us in Myrtle and got busted.........good entertainment from our balcony watchin the cops tear the guys car apart and find lab stuff and test it ect. Strange thing is the punk was back a few hours later and got his car and drove off. Figure'd they'd keep the guys for that shit and not release em so soon ? Anyhow........maybe the dude that got blown up was smokein with his 02 on. Now ya see me now ya don't Pam Um.....PS.....were not theives......didn't want it ta sound that way......got a couple face towels and an ashtray and Brad jus HAD to have the brass knob since he is into metalsmithing for a souvineer. OK....wanted to clarify all that......ok.....talk amungst yerselves ;;D |
