Title: Re: Nashcon presentation - C.H.A.T.S. Post by BruceD on Jul 21st, 2004, 3:14pm Dan, Thank you so much for all you have done with CHATS I was sitting with Thomas during your presentation and we were utterly amazed at how thorough & well-managed CHATS is. It is a tremendous development to give credence to the significance of CH. I'll also urge everyone to participate and ACTIVELY contribute their data to CHATS once it goes "online". That data will really make a difference in how researchers and drugcos "see" clusterheadaches ... and that will help us all defeat CH. Thanks again BruceD |

Title: Re: Nashcon presentation - C.H.A.T.S. FTP added Post by Kevin_M on Jul 23rd, 2004, 9:22am Dan, The whole presentation was well done. I see it as a program that, if committed to a data entry regime by us, can bring more real time info to the fingertips of doctors, and pharm companies should be peeking too. Everyone involved has done a great job to create a good compiling method for what clusters have to deal with, and to get doctors informed, long desired needs of ours to have out there. Thank you all for the work involved, and time and skills put to the cause. Kevin M |

Title: Re: C.H.A.T.S. Overview - Ed. 8/18 Post by Lebowski_Dude on Oct 7th, 2004, 8:54pm EXCELLENT!!! About time! Any one who posts or visits this web-site: This CHATS is a MUST SEE. My head off to the folks who are developing this and the web-art-work/etc. is great. This is exactly why I went 'looking' for web-sites like 'ch.com' et al.: To try and find a site that isnt only about supporting one another [which is crucial and very important as CH brings along with it a whole host of psychological issues, too numerous and complex to go into [at the moment, anyways]; but things like anxiety disorders, PTSD, depression, anger management issues, drug-addiction, etc, etc. Some questions for the MAGMAN and folk working on this long overdue data-base [and what sounds like it may have a 'clinical trial' focus to it as well]: Will CHATS deal with those folk [like myself] who have been diagnosed as/with 'Atypical Cluster Headache Syndrome' and/or have concurrent diagnoses of other 'hellacious-headache' syndromes: Like Migraine, Post-Head Trauma and /or brain/nerve 'damage'? I do fit the diagnostic criteria for CH [but Atypically so] ..and CAN tell the difference between Migraine and CH [as they're nothing alike; BUT!? Is there a possible connection..an actual organic/physiological one?]. I'm a 'newbie' to CH.com..and posted just recently..to suss out the general form of the web-site and its members [and have been very impressed and pleased]..many of the replies I got did invole other members who reported having more than just a clear-cut diagnosis of CH ONLY. People with migraine, several different forms of 'recognized' seizure disorder, and others [like myself] who have also had severe head-trauma. Plus some very interesting feedback re: sleep disorders AND'parapsychological' phenomenae [which I imagine you WONT be exploring; but is a genuine issue re brain-states and the physiology/complexity of the brain/mind. The Brain/Mind IS the 'Final Frontier', and perhaps the most FUNDAMENTAL Frontier [speaking as a student of philosophy AND psychology/neuropsychology]. I know: Tricky territory and you want [and need] to keep CHATS as scientifically viable as possible if you're going to generate interest/feedback/cooperation with Medical Doctors and Researchers, never mind getting FUNDING! Back to my point [yes, I can be quite tangential]: I'm still trying/going to get back to some of these people, as my 'questions' weren't scientifically succinct, in that: [What I wanted to know]: Did they have a diagnosis [or were they exhibiting classic Symptoms/ Syndrome] of CH 'ONLY'..before their Migraine history, or after they developed Migraine? Same with those people who reported having Post-Head Trauma/Concussive type headache 'syndromes'... I understand the complexity of possibly skewing your collected data by including people who have other [concurrent? Concommittant?] diagnoses that involve pathology of the brain and/or cranial nerves..or Vascular issues [and possibly 'glandular', as in the Hypothalamus hypothesis, disturbances] to be more accurate. And from the PP presentation it looks like you are collecting data re: cycles, duration, intensity, abortive and interventive [and, really, prophylactic-type] medications, such as Beta blockers and Calcium-ion blockers, etc etc..and their efficacy. when I first logged on/became a member, I took the CH.com data-test re: meds tried and results/impact of meds on my headaches. I wasnt sure if I was looking at MY results only; or was I looking at the over-all results of everyone thats responded to that questionnaire? I'm assuming it was an over-all result I was being shown [as the result didnt reflect the data I had inputed]. I was actually quite surprised how high some of the tallys were re: 'HAVEN'T TRIED' on some of the most basic [and oldest] CH-type medications. The last 24 years I've literally tried everything out there, as I had some excellent Neurologists and/or GPs, who took me through actual 'trials' to try and find out what did/didnt work. It's likely the fact that my CH is 'classed' as Atypical and I have a smorgasborg of other neurological diagnoses and history that some meds worked for a limited time, and some not at all. Back to my point/question: Will CHATS be ruling-out unclear or Atypical CH diagnoses, or multiply diagnosed persons? What diagnostic criteria will you be using? [The ICDM definition of CH-syndrome?] Maybe I missed it, or you folk are still working on it, but what's the criteria re: being part of the data? Is it a definitive diagnosis of CH only? Sorry this is so long; but I'm beyond intrigued and excited about what you're working on and would appreciate any answers/info you may/can supply. Great work! Judging from the Message Board you wont have any shortage of sincere and intelligent support, not to mention data. Thanks. Really. The Dude |
