Title: Need some advice...
Post by jhammer on Jul 16th, 2004, 3:25pm
So I finally get to see the Neurologist next Wednesday...unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it), my CH cycle has pretty much come to an end.  Even during the cycle I had a difficult time expressing to my GP just how painful these things were.  During my first bout with CH's The Neuro told me I was depressed, so this time I didn't dare mention the fact that I was thinking about laying my head on some railroad tracks and praying for a train to come...they'd think I completely lost it.  But the fact is, death would have been a suitable alternative to suffering from these damn things...then I found Imitrex and this website (thank God).

So...does anybody have any tips on how I could effectively communicate this to the doc to get a proper diagnosis?

Thanks...

Hi Jack, rather than try and explain the pain, which I have never found the words, I handed this to my GP, he ate it up, IMHO most N dudes are worthless albeit very expensive. At any rate you might get him to read some of this if he can get off of his high horse long enough.

The only thing you can do is tell it like it is.  Be very descriptive and don't try to be all tough guy on him.  Describe in gory detail the pain and other symptons, but don't whine either.  Play John Wayne and minimize the pain and he may write you off, whine too much and he'll just think you're a wuss and write you off.

Let him know you know what is what.  Print out some stuff from this site and the ouch site and take it with you to back up what you say you know.

That's about all you can do.

Lee - I love that. I have to g back to my Neuro next week and am hoping that he will assist me more then sending me to PT. Although I think that it did wat it is suppost to. My HA dont wrap around anymore, so maybe he was right and I did//do have occipital neuralsia. But now the HA come on a lot hfaster and harder and are all focused in the front left upper quadrant of my head.  At least before I got more of a forwarning before they would hit.  :'(

Anyway -

Take as much info as you can.  When the neuro sent me all the info to fillout beore my appointment and send back to them, I included all fo the info from this site with it so that ti owuld be placed in my file.  So he walked ina dn already had looked through the info and knew that I was already working with CH from the get go.  Now as a true stuck up doc... he had to prove if it is a valid diagnosis, but at least it was in his head form the start.

Good Luck
PF days my friend,
-Tia

To all...

Thanks for your help.  I'll be sure to bring some documentation for the Neuro to peruse before he even sees me, that's a great idea.
