Title: In the news continued...
Post by Jayne on Jul 10th, 2004, 12:51am
I had a thought, ( I have them sometimes).
To continue the awarerness...... if you are willing and would like to, I thought it might be a good idea to take the link about the news story that I did, and send it to all your local news stations to the health reporter. It is always good to present them with something that has been of interest to other news networks in the country.
Volunteer yourself to be interviewed. Don't be bashfull let's get proactive. If you all did it I bet there would be a few more news segments about our plight.
Come on guys...not everyone who needs help lives in the Nashville area......go on do it, it will do ya good.

That can be tried, but when they see I'm not a "looker" like you, they will demand a stunt double.  Worth a try with newspapers too, they have health sections.  Proud of ya Jayne, great going.

Hi Jayne,

I just emailed Beth Galvin, the health reporter with FOX 5 News in Atlanta. I sent your link and told her that I would make myself available to her in any way she desired (oh boy, I shouldn't have said that!)

Anyway, I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

I too sent the link to the local news station and said I would assist in any way needed if they wanted to do a story as well.  Maybe we CAN get the word out.  Proactive.....I agree with you Jayne!  Lets get this out there.

It's one of those Java script things, you can get the latest update somewhere? on the MS site.

That might help.

This is what I got.

Alert: You are currently using an incompatible browser or an outdated version of Windows Media Player to access the video player on this site. Please read the troubleshooting tips below for more information.

{start rant}
They intentionally blocked me from viewing it because thier site is incompatible with any non M$, browser and non M$ movie player even though I am perfectly capable of playing a movie that is on a proprietary format. So much for freedom of speech, you are free to view if you bow to the great god bill.{/rant}

Java is owned by Sun (http://www.sun.com/) and the latest java runtime engine can be found HERE. (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html) There is a bastard version available from M$. Niether will help you view this movie.

Nope, they blocked Opera too, I guess it is a M$ only site. Anyone watch it on OSX? They set it up so I can't even download it and watch it. wget would be the solution if I still had any desire to watch it.

Paul,

I watched it on Opera, too!!  You must be having Linux problems again!! ;)

Jayne,

This is a GREAT idea!!  I will forward the link to stations in Philly.  Are you suggesting we forward it to all the local news stations or just one like NBC?  We've got NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, and WB all pretty popular around here!

Yes they are blocking Linux becouse they think I don't have a player for M$ media player files. I did get it too work but I got a 1/2hour news broadcast and didn't watch to see if the story was in it or not.

Anyone get through on OSX?

I finally managed to see this video, and I must say it was worthwhile. Great job Jayne!

I steamed up my old machine, with a vintage media player (# 7) and nothing updated in over a year and it showed the video on first try. I think media player 9 is not only spyware but plain and simply crapware. It is the program that calls the most for the master reset button.

Opus,

[mini-rant]

Dude, we all makes our choices.  You choose non-MS.  You suffer.  Some choose MS.  They suffer.  Is there some greater good being served by bashing microsoft every freaking time you see an opportunity?  I mean, once in a while is cool, but chill out.  If you need to see the video and it means you have to use [insert something else] to do it, well that's your choice.  It's like you're calling everybody who uses microsoft stupid, when (as you point out so often) it is difficult for many to get away from MS products. [/mini-rant]

Fubar,
  Thanks, I didn't mean it to be a Microsoft bashing so let me restate.

{steps on soapbox}

 The reason I was upset is that the site is  blocking me from viewing the movie because ( and I am guessing ) that they believe that I would not be able to view the movie. In fact I can watch the movie but I am not allowed the chance. I believe in choice and people  who are willing to pay for their computer operating system have just as many rights to view the same things as those who would rather use open and usually free operating systems and software. I am sure that if I changed my browser to display to the web site that I use IE6 on WinXP that everything would work fine but I am proud of the operating system and browser I use and I don't want to have to pretend to be something I am not. I also thought it was the browsers job to tell you if you could not view the data stream, not the web site.

{/soapbox}

Opus/Paul

PS I have writen the web master and nicely told them what happened.

Well...NBC10 shot me down. This is the reply I just received.

...begin quote Hello,
Thank you for your interest in NBC 10. We have done stories on this in the past I have included the texts from our recent airings of this so you will have some more information.

Thank you,
HEALTHWATCH

DOCTOR STEPHEN SILBERSTEIN, OF THE JEFFERSON HEADACHE CENTER, SAYS TAKING PRESCRIPTION OR OVER THE COUNTER PAIN MEDICATIONS MORE THAN TEN TIMES A MONTH, CAN ACTUALLY BRING ON CHRONIC HEADACHES.

SO NOW, RESEARCHERS ARE WORKING ON NEW TREATMENTS TO "PREVENT" MIGRANES.

THAT INCLUDES DRUGS TRADITIONALLY USED TO TREAT EPILEPSY... EVEN BOTOX INJECTIONS!

BUT DR. SILBERSTEIN SAYS THE ROOT OF MANY CHRONIC HEADACHE CASES IS OBESITY.

SO, THE BEST MEDICINE COULD BE DROPPING THOSE EXTRA POUNDS.

RESEARCHERS AT WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY STUDIED 134 PEOPLE WITH MIGRANES, TENSION HEADACHES, AND CHRONIC DAILY HEADACHES.

GROUPS OF PATIENTS WERE GIVEN VARYING DOSES OF BOTOX INJECTIONS EVERY THREE MONTHS.

MORE THAN 63 PERCENT SAID THE TREATMENTS HELPED!

THOSE WHO HAD HIGHER DOSES EXPERIENCED THE MOST IMPROVEMENT.

DOCTORS SAY BOTOX STOPS HEADACHES BY INTERFERING WITH THE TRANSMISSION OF NERVE PAIN SIGNALS....end quote

;;D I guess their one or two shows on Migraines cover every Headache.
