I am sorry, maybe it is just me, but I do not find the killing of a person, WHOEVER it is, to be enjoyable.  I am a super patriot, and will defend this country to my death, but I do not revel in the killing of others.  It is just a fact of war, but does not mean that I like it.

Just think, that man, enemy and bastard, I am sure, STILL has a family that will now miss him.  I just don't find joy in the killing of a human being.

The dude was laying in the street about to RPG our American troops.  He was as blatant as he could be.  I got no pitty for him.  Terrorists can behead our people and broadcast video of them screaming while it is done with a dull knife.  Personally, I think this guy died a little too humanely.

Yes... it is good to see the US win a skirmish.  That said, were we not there under completely false pretenses the lad would not have had a need to be toting an RPG around.  He knew that we should not be there, same as the brighter element of the US populace.

If our Commander and Chief would have told me we are going into Iraq simply because Saddam is dangerous and we need to take him out I would have been OK with that.

But he didn't. He lied.

The responsibilty for all deaths in Iraq, American or otherwise falls squarely on his shoulders.

I wouldn't go that far but the nucleus of the terrorist activities was and still is in Afghanistan. They seem to have been given a reprieve.

Aye Dan. This is another thread that I will look at while eating my lunch but keep to myself.  I like to hear all of the sides, but I fail to see the point to it at this  juncture in time. We have men and women over there fighting and dying.  Those people need to be supported.  The reason that they were sent over there is a mute point.  

Rev, I understand your sentimates.  But I think that there are many people who are taken back by the fact that you are so stauntch in those beliefs while being a Reverand.

I know that I am doing exactly what I said I would not do, but...   Rev, how can you judge a person for what he is taught from birth to be right?  There is a quote from literature (I am paraphrasing not quoting as I dont have it in front of me) ... If you suffer your childern to be ill educated, and then punish them for what thier education has taught them to do. Then does it not make sence that you are the one creating the problem?

When I answered Rev's original post, I was NOT commenting on the war, or if we should be there or not.  I do not appreciate that someone may be "gloating" over the death of a person. And I am not saying the Rev is, or anyone else here is.

We are at war, or whatever anyone wants to call it.  I know that death is a result of that.  I just don't want anyone to take death lightly, regardless who it is.

Yes, that man was firing at someone, maybe us.  Yes, he needed to be stopped.  Yes, maybe the only way to stop him, was by killing him.  But I, for one, will NOT cheer his death.

I was in the service during 'Nam.  I saw death.  I have read about it in every global conflict since then.  But I will not cheer those deaths.

I am scared to death this will be another long drawn out conflict.  I just hope that, unlike 'Nam, the politicians will let the MILITARY fight this, not the POLITICIANS.  The military is trained to do this.  If they (the government) insist that our men be there, LET THEM DO WHAT THEY ARE TRAINED FOR!  Don't send them, and then tie their hands behind their backs, as they did in 'Nam!  Let's win this, and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!

Again, my original comment: Please don't cheer at the death of a human being.  Life is too precious for that.

The only thing I can think of in Afghanistan is that we have them surrounded in the mountainous region and they will eventually starve to death.  I know we tightened things down to a several square mile area that is just too hard to navigate effectively.

Our forces are still there.  They are still working.  They are still protecting the new government.

I sure wish we would get Bin Laden though.  Man, can you imagine what their network of caves must be like?  I wonder how many of them are natural caves, and how many of them were man made.  And if they were manmade, how in the world..........

I probably shouldn't have posted the video, and I do not take lightly that this guy died.  It just looks like justice to me.  

The same people that will say he is justified in using that RPG are the same people that try to justify what terrorists did to us on 9/11.  There is no justification.  Our troops are there for a noble cause.  And the majority of the people of Iraq, though concerned, are optimistic things will improve.

Rev, I am not saying in any way shape or form that 9/11 or the fact that this man was aiming  a life take device at any (US or otherwise) is justified.  My husband is ex army. He was / is special forces and I feel very strongly about what happened and what is currently happening.  What is happening with terrorists is wrong. The fact that they use scare techniquices are wrong. The entire beheading tapes are disgusting.  And it turns my stomach to think of it.  But I can not watch the killing of anyone in a forum like this and see it as "justice".  

There are people that I am very adimant about how I would like to see them die, but they have nothing to do with the war, but that has to do with rape and such.  My husband has told me that I seem like a completly different person when something like that is brought up due to the hate in my eyes.

Fuck the fake popcorn, it'll be the regular kind with extra REAL butter, and of course......skittles.  Oh, and since this is a only a 24hr deal, I'll bring some stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut with a couple tubs of pizza & garlic butter dipping sauce, some garlic w/cheese breadsticks, 3...ok 4 pitchers of beer (your choice), hot hot buffalo wings, a bloomin onion from Outback with ranch dressing (and whatever other dippin sauce ya like) and a Nestle Crunch ice cream cake for dessert.  Oh, and I also want 2 packs of Marb menthol ultra lights and one of those memory erasers like the dudes from Men in Black used.

BTW, if you can find 2 overstuffed rocking Lay-Z-Boy recliners, I got a large whirlpool tub you can use to take your yearly bath. (i just KNOW i'm gonna have to invest in some of "The Works" stock later on... ::))

As a general principal, when a soldier picks up a weapon and shoots at an enemy soldier, he's taking a risk.  That's true in this case.

But even the US military now thinks that most of the fighters in Iraq are not Al Qaeda, not terrorists, and not fundamentalists trying to create a theocracy - they are nationalists who are fighting for their country.  To lump all who oppose the US in Iraq into one basket is sloppy thinking - and dangerous to our troops.

Looks like his purpose in life was fulfilled. Serving as a bad example to others.
Sitting out in the open and pointing a weapon at heavily armed troops will get you killed most anywhere. His armed friends standing around and not pointing thier weapons at the aforementioned troops were not.

So perhaps his life was not wasted after all.
