Okay...

So I gave my laptop a drink of beer a few months ago, and I guess it gave it Systemboard Cancer, cause the bastard went kaput...

... Hard drive still has files on it though, and I need 'em off.

Does anyone know how I can get the files off the bare HD?... cause I can't just stick it in a different laptop....

You can buy an adapter that lets you plug a laptop drive into a non-laptop PC. Tiny piece... should be less than $10. When your PC boots up, the laptop drive should show as the next drive letter.

Suck off what you want a CD or such, or just network your new laptop to your PC, pulling what you want across the network.

Yep. Here it is. Not a ribbon, but allows the laptop drive to plug into your existing ribbon.

Ever wonder how you can chew corn, swallow it, digest it, and it comes out just hunky dory? I feel that our intestines are designed to restuff the corn for later processing as seeds for random plants. What kind of laptop?
Any good computer repair place or the manufacturer or said distributorship, should be able to copy the data for you, if the above suggestions don't work.

Not at all. Corrosion on the systemboard. That's why I needed a cable to connect directly to the hard drive, and be able to plug it into a desktop PC...

In my little laboratory of horrors, I have a setup that would easily let me move all of the files off that hard drive to any other hard drive. It literally takes about 3 minutes to get it going. If you want, I'll do it for you.
I even have a spare drive to give you once the transfer is done.
