Post by athos on Jul 6th, 2004, 10:51pm
My neuro gave up on me today...  I really thought that I had a winner hooked up that would be with me for the long haul.

I don't have the streangth to start over again......

I just don't think that I have it in me....  Tooo much all at once.....  He wants to refer me to a pain management clinic here....  I can't start over I really can't

Man, fuck 'im... Increasingly, I'm convinced that neurologists are a bunch of quacks. >:( Any good general practitioners in your area? Hang tough, my friend. You'll find a good physician soon.

Ken,

Is he just uninformed about our malady and doesn't know what to do, or is it just that nothing seems to be helping you beat the beast?
We are all here for you! And I mean all of us!

You hang in there,

Peace,

Jimbo

Hey Ken,
I know exactly how you feel. I had a real good neuro that eventually told me there was nothing more he could do for me. It was a real blow at the time, I didn't know what I was gonna do. I hooked up with another one from out of town, I had seen all the nuero's here. He helped me out until I got tired of the drive (about a year).

I then had to go see my new gp (insurance changed) to discuss blood tests for an upcoming surgery. We talked about my headaches and he was interested in checking them out. He has been treating me ever since and I go see a neuro about once a year (there are now more here). That was in 1999.

Keep your chin up. :) Call some neuro's offices and ask if they treat CH. Some neuro's make it a point to get a CHer in as soon as possible. Just make sure to get all your records transferred to the new doc.

As far as the pain clinic, they may be able to help you. You should take a look at Unsolved's post in the medications page. It may help you with some questions. I will have to go look at it, I can't remember the name.

Edit: the name of the thread is "Narcotics Question" it is on page 2 in treatments/medications page.

It don't sound like he's giving up on you Athos, it's more like the pain management center may be able to do more for you.  Give it a try, they may be able to help.  Some pain management centers handle all sorts of pain which has filtered to them from refering docs, that's how you get there.  He is refering you there.  That may be the next step toward recovery, don't give up until you have done everything that can be done.
This neuro just pushed you up a notch to perhaps what may be better facilities for you.  You've got to try it.  You are not actually starting over, you are getting better help maybe.  If the neuro is admitting his limitations, then the better facilities he is recommending may be just what you need.  Do everything you can first.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain....

I can't believe I'm sitting right here next to the guy and I should be screaming in his ear...anyhow, I put some headphones on the man and he is lulling to the soulful sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I'm not suure exactly what happened today with the neuro, however, I hardly believe that he simply quit on Commander Athos. I met the guy and he was rather nice...something else is afoot.

It seems that if a doc can't find a reason for a particular thing. ie.. the back spasms that I have been fighting for about a month and a half, the doc's come to the conclusion that it must be an emotional problem an therefore not a real one. i have done as much fighting as I can do... and those that are in my corner are slowly leaving and it is hard to take right now....  What is left?

Your family - your friends.......your kids.  CH.com........

I know it's hard to see the that when you're down, and the pain meds probably dont let you think too clearly, - but  you DO have something left to fight for..   Read the words under your picture of Connor, and start there!

Keep your chin up - now is not the time to lay down and stop fighting!!!

Foothills Neurology
4530 E Muirwood Dr., Suite #111
Phoenix, AZ 85048
(480) 961-2365
Stuart Hetrick
Daniel Cacioppo

Dr Stuart Hetrick is the one referred to me by a fellow clusterhead. He is supposed to be excellent.

However, becuase I could get in earlier, I got Dr Cacioppo, and he saved my ass...

They are both great docs and specialize in cluster's and have plenty of experience dealing with them.

Take the first available appt with either one of them, and bring in all your charts with you. You can take the info off the sight about treatments and such if it makes you feel better, but they're pretty on top of what works. And they have a big sample closet! ;)

Ken,

Don't give up! Never give up!  SOMEONE here will help you find a Dr. or a neuro to help you out of this horrible situation!

My husband's name is Ken also, and we almost gave up after only 2 months too being so frustrated.

I don't know where you live, but if you're willing to travel, or can for that matter, I can refer you to Ken's neuro. He knows his CH !  If you need to talk about it, or want his info - give me a shout!  We live in North Jersey by the way and Dr. is in Longbranch NJ.

Like I said, if you're interested....drop me a PM.

Much love and vibes,
Toni

Ken dont give up. You are close enough (I know it is not right around the corner but you know what I mean ) to Pheonix. Please let Chris get you in.  It does not matter how many leave your corner... there are more of us that are there that will never leave. You will never be alone.

What else is left, is everything.  You have people who just smile thinking about you.  That is worth more then anything that a doc can say or do... or not do.  That os the part that does not matter.  There is something going on and thus it has to be treated.  If the Pain Management doc can assist with the back spasms then let him.  I know that I have to see a total of 3 docs for me. Between my back, then my neuro and he is sending me to a different pain mgmt doc about my neck.  So now I will have to talk to him and see what and how he thinks he can help. But it is worth it for me to try and get it handled.  If even one of them can assist in making one part of it better, then that is a win for me.  You have to look at the little victories and not stress about the whole damn battle... That is way to daunting.

Blessed Be my friend.
-Tia

Hi Ken,

At least the neuro is being honest here. If he's tried all he can, than take his advise and try the pain management center. Just maybe they will figure your pain out and help. They will get a copy of your records so it won't be starting over; just a continuation of progress towards your recovery.

Vibes to ya Ken and hang in there.

Ken,

Your Doc did not give up on you, my friend, he gave up on himself.  He gave up on what HE knew, not what you are.  In the time I have been here I have always counted on you being here and being able to look to you and see that I can do it too.  I learned from you that I can, so now I'm saying lets do it together.  You are not alone, you konw that.  Hang tough man, you CAN do it.  "When life knocks you down, and it will, land on your back.  Cause if you can look up, you can get up!"  Ed Brown  -- I have that all through my house, and I need it.  We have been praying for you,

Hiya Ken,

You aren't starting over if you go to pain management.  Maybe this is truly the best way they can help you right now.  I know it isn't easy to tell your story to yet another doc, but this could be a good thing!!

My GP has had back problems for many years, and at one point a doc told him it was all in his head.  My doc replied, "If it's all in my head, then give me something for that because this HURTS!"  So don't worry...it IS real.  Nobody can tell you that it's not.

My neuro moved out of the country last fall.  I consider him to be a very close friend...practically like a 2nd father.  He was wonderful with helping me out.  He even got me my research position last summer.  Some days, I still don't feel like I've adjusted to the change in docs since he left.

But we're clusterheads, we pick up and go on!!  Sometimes I don't know how, but we do.  I know you can do this, Ken!!!  You've got all of us here to back you up!!

Hugz,
Lizzie :)

Give up??? Bullshit!!! We are clusterheads, We are tough. We never give up.
My doc sent me to pain management for back and leg pain. They competely cured the leg pain and greatly diminished the back pain. Didn't do anything for ch but O2 works for me so I didn't push it.
Hang in there bro.
