Title: When's the last time you had an attack with no med Post by Jayne on Jul 5th, 2004, 4:35pm when was the last time you had to ride the storm of the beast out. With no 02 and no trex, no pills, no nothing. I know mine was a few years ago since I have had such great help. I just kill the bastard each time he knocks at my door. Sometimes he gets inside and looks like he's going to make himself at home, but I still manage to kick him out. I have been very lucky and think it's about 4 years ago that I had to writhe around in agony for 2 hours. I love my meds and I love abortives. Beleive me I have got through a LOT of abortives. What's your story? |

I had just met and had lunch with Elaine(and no, that had nothing to do with it) and I had decided to go off all meds completely. I had made the decision mostly for financial reasons. Big Mistake! I got hit and I got hit hard! Eight times in one day, K7-9. I rode 'em out and the next day, I refilled the lithium and verap and called and begged some trex samples off my neuro. It took a few days for everything to more or less get back to normal. Hope that helps!...............alley |

I remember I was struck with suprise at the sheer amount of pain, I remember thinking afterwards how it must be impossible to remember the level of pain in a ch because the brain just does not have the power to retain it. There was one after that but I went into meditation for that one, since then I have always gone into meditation for a CH shadow. I thought it was something special about the meditative process itself but I think now it was the act of placing my attention on the pain, following it to the source, near the center of my back, and placing my attention there. Anyway, it worked for me and still seems to. John D. |

No 02 there (there is now), No meds in my purse (now it looks like a pharmacy). Not a fun day...used an ice pack on the back of my neck and another on my forehead and rode out an 8 in front of the boss....She had the NERVE to ask me to fix her wireless router IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THAT!! I just looked at her with one swollen eye and my nose running 90 to nothing and said "Oh sure, I'll get right on that!" and kept on rocking back and forth in my chair... Some people just DON'T get it!! Even when you put it right under thier )*&*^%&$%& NOSE!! I am much better now! DD |

Title: Re: When's the last time you had an attack with no Post by miapet on Jul 5th, 2004, 9:26pm D did it in the beginning (about 20 years ago) because none of the docs knew what the hell was going on . . .most recently he did it for the last 10 years (give or take a couple) until this year, when he got o2 (neuro gave him a pred taper and cafergot, but it only worked the first couple of days) . . . the time inbetween, he tried every freaking drug known in the ch tool box . . none of them worked . . . Oh, and in the past 20 years .. he was chronic the entire time. *positive light and energy* miapet |

I usually can't get to the O2 early enough for it to work for me, so I don't bother with it any more, and the preventatives have shortened them to where I can handle them for the most part by focusing my mind and being active. Rode em all out, each and every one, for well over 15 years. Then came trex injections. By far, the worst one was on my anniversary, a couple of years ago. My wife and I had gone to a nice restaurant in the middle of an upscale plaza. I got hit just after ordering our food. I went door to door in that plaza, asking for aspirin. Finally, some kind soul gave me an aspirin, but of course, that didn't work worth a damn. :( This last cycle, I was on a very low dose of Verapamil and that seemed to do the trick. Like Mel, I hoarded my Imitrex for the really BAD ones, and for the lesser ones, I used meditation to get through. Sitting at the piano and playing softly seems to have a wonderfully dulling effect on the pain, as well. |

(thanks to this site I was able to find help.) I went more than 25 years without meds. Sometimes riding out 5 or 6 a day and 1 or 2 a night for 4 or 5 months straight per cycle. almost caused divorce, my job, and my sanity. well maybe the sanity is still a little shakey. ;) |

Verap, lithium, and dope-o-max seem to be cutting into them (finally!)! Down to 6 to 8 hits a day!!!! YEEHAWW!!!! A month or two ago, went off all meds for 4 to 6 weeks to flush my system. THAT was not fun! Even though there appeared to be no difference in the number of hits a day, I think the psycological effect of knowing I was not taking ANY drugs, seemed to make it harder to stand. Maybe I can soon get down to my normal one or two a day! WOW! It has been so long, I almost don't remember what it is like to only have one or two a day! Down to 6 to 8, aiming for 1 to 2! Chuck |
