Title: Re: $290,000,000? Post by Jeepgun on Jul 3rd, 2004, 3:34pm ROFL! Seriously, though: I'm very content with my life and although working for a living is often a real pain in the ass, it keeps the rhythm of my life intact. Having won that kind of money, what real good would it do you? It would take the challenge out of life, turn a lot of people around you into false friends, and that money would become the focal point around which your life revolved. Nope. I'd flush it. :) Then again, I've been accused several times of being insane. Hrmmm... Maybe. Maybe not. *arching one eyebrow* |

Title: Re: $290,000,000? Post by Kevin_M on Jul 3rd, 2004, 5:56pm A former good friend of mine was at one time the largest lottery winner in the country at about 360mil. Needless to say, haven't seen him since. But the first year was dreadful. His house was constantly a source of news and all kinds of people hanging around that he never knew, asking for money. His mailbox was full of requests everyday. He moved of course, gave 10mil to a cancer research center, gave his construction company to his employees and built a lavish poolhall for all his friends to play at. One divorce, one suicide attempt later he is doing real good now. He was a great guy, but it is a whole lot to get through. He went into a 7-11 and wanted a hotdog and only had a hundred. Told the clerk to give him the 99 dollars change in lottery tickets as a whim. With conservative investing, interest is 365 thou a month for a long, long time on what's left after all his family is set up for life and other things. Vegas treats him very well. We used to have a blast when we were younger. I was glad he won. Kevin M |

Title: Re: $290,000,000? Post by John_D on Jul 3rd, 2004, 6:00pm Wow Kevin, you knew him. He was pretty famous, I am willing to bet most adults in the country remember that. The last I heard he got like 100,000 stolen out of his car, he likes to roll the dice I guess. Seems like a very nice guy though, I did not know he gave his company to the employees. Thanks for sharing that, very interesting. |

Title: Re: $290,000,000? Post by Jayne on Jul 3rd, 2004, 11:16pm wow Kevin, that's a story. I have a small one. We had some neighbours next door and our kitchens connected. (This was when I lived at home in England). Well the people next door were always arguing. My mum and I would put a glass to the adjoining wall and listen in and have a good laugh. They would fight everyday. Well, they won the English version of the lottery. They won one million pounds. The house next door fell silent for a week for the fist time in years. A week later the fighting started...mum and I rushed to get a glass and place it on the wall. We couldn't beleive our ears....they were fighting about how to spend the money. We almost urinated laughing. They moved out two months later never to be seen by us again. |
