Title: Got a good one for you Post by Ree on Jun 21st, 2004, 3:16pm Just got off the phone with my new dermatologist... In 2002 I was diagnosed with Cutaneous 1st stage Melanoma by a well known dermatologist in my home town... We changed our life style... I stayed out of the sun... Didnt go to the ocean lfor 2 years...Spent hundreds of dollars on a cover for our boat... Stayed out of our family pool... bought sunless tanning sessions also costing hundreds... Remember the joke about me being Ree banna orange bod........... Well according to my new dermatologist I never had skin cancer.......... NOW WHY WOULD A DOCTOR TELL ME I HAD SKIN CANCER IF I DIDNT??????????? WHAT WOULD YOU DO...? I AM VERY HAPPY... BUT PISSED AT THE STRESS THIS GUY CAUSED... DAVE WANTS ME TO TELL HIM OFF.......... sheesh.............. thank God we didnt sell the boat or Dave would have me suing... LOL I'll be curious to see what you guys think alot of you guys went through the diagnosis with me a few years ago........... Love to you Ree |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by Jeepgun on Jun 21st, 2004, 3:55pm Well, doctors are humans too. Sometimes mistakes get made. He may have seen something that he interpreted incorrectly. You have stayed out of the sun, which means that you will look younger longer, and now you've found that you can go play in the sunshine again. It seems to me that you've got the very best of all possible scenarios! :) You could go tell him off, but really, what would that accomplish? Anyway, congratulations. |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by BobG on Jun 21st, 2004, 4:00pm dermatologist #1 said you had Melanoma and was wrong. dermatologist #2 said you did not have Melanoma. Are you sure #2 is right? Maybe a 3rd opinion is needed. I don't know. Sure hope #2 is correct. |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by Gator on Jun 21st, 2004, 6:09pm At this point, I'm with Bob. Het a 3rd and hopefully unbiased opinion based on a new set of tests. It's the only way I can think of to be really sure. Damned doctors. Gator |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by Woobie on Jun 21st, 2004, 6:10pm Holy BATS, REE!! I ToTAlLYagree with BobG - get a 3rd opinion.... Go in there with NO records.. and make him/her start from scratch with his/her diagnosis... dont tell him/her any history....... know what I mean? I hate doctors....... Wish medicine was an exact science... like on Star trek - they're never wrong and know everything in one scan. Too cool. kisses and hugz to ya! :-* [smiley=hug.gif] Tina |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by Samantha_Smith on Jun 22nd, 2004, 9:45pm "Doctors are human?" LOL. My husband had Hodgekin's Lymphoma about 6 years ago and has regular check up's (i.e. CAT and PET scans.) In October of 2002 he had a CAT scan and there was a "spot" on it. His oncologist (who happens to look just like Nancy Reagan in the early '80's) claimed that it was constipation. No shit. (LOL.) In late April of 2003, 4 weeks before we were to become man and wife, he had another regular CAT scan check up. This time the oncologist called him at work said that it was cancer.......not constipation. She pulls us into her medical office (BEFORE a biopsy had been done) and says "The cancer is showing up outside the field of the previous radiation treatment which is common with re-occurring Hodgekin's Lymphoma. A stem cell transplant is your best chance after you have chemo and raditaion. Where do you want to be treated? Blah. Blah. Blah." Wow! I didn't know doctors could diagnos cancer without having a biopsy done. So we get married and go on the honeymoon or what was f*ckin' left of it. We come back, move into our new place and he goes into get a biopsy in order to discover what "stage" the supposed cancer is at. Five days later that b*itch (ooops I'm sorry "human") calls and says, "We ran all the tests and its not cancer. We tested for bacterial infections and everything. All tests are negative." WTF!!!!! We go from a diagnosis of "constipation" to "cancer" to "we don't know what". Of course they never say "We don't know what it is"---I don't think that phrase is erased from their vocabulary upon graduating from medical school. Her best guess is that because the lymph nodes on his left side were so badly damaged from the previous Lymphoma that the lymph nodes on the right side have to compensate and therefore they are enlarged which makes them appear as "spots" on the CAT scans. Wow! Sounds wicked super dooper scientific doesn't it? Stooooopid stooopid stooopid b*tch! Next time.....next time....forget the CAT scans.....we'll just go to the crystal ball reader down the road. I'm sure the readings are more accurate. Sorry. I didn't realize how badly I needed to vent. Geez I feel so much better now. Thanks for listening everyone. My name is Samantha and I hate doctors. |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by cootie on Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:20pm My doc told me last week there over reading alot of test results these days.......can't be too cautious but it can cause alot of grief if they are wrong and state you have something serious and just 'overamp'd'........I got a letter on one of my results and scared the shit out of me !!!! But doc read the report and said it stated there was nothing serious and to retest in 6 months. If one can be right one can also be wrong Pam Gonna miss you and Dave at the convention DAM IT !!!! |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by Charlie on Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:55pm Wow. Third opinion is a good idea but make sure the doctor didn't confine his schooling to Aruba. Not crazy about all-Caribbean medical educations....... :-/ Ya never get a break.... ::) Charlie |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by juvy on Jun 23rd, 2004, 1:51am Hey Ree, I hate to say it but a third opinion would be a really good idea. This way you know for certain who diagnosed you incorrectly. It's always better safe than sorry. What would you do if you went back to your old habits of sunbathing and such only to find out the second doctor was mistaken? Its tough but get a third opinion. *hugs and vibes* Juvy |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by suzy617 on Jun 23rd, 2004, 7:40am Ree, I would get a copy of the pathology report and bring it to another specialist. Any Dr. should be able to read it correctly and if any questions they can always call the person who wrote it to clarify matters. I dont know about the lawsuit thing but I sure would question Dr. #1 about his diagnosis. Hugs to you, Suzy |

Title: Re: Got a good one for you Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Jun 23rd, 2004, 9:33am My Mother in law's Doctor told her for close to a year that she had a bladder infection and kept giving her anti-biotics. She stayed sick and wasn't getting better. She finally went to talk to a different Doctor and was told that she had 3rd stage bladder cancer. Her funeral was last Friday. Doctors should look at things a little more closer sometimes. I am not speaking about ALL Doctors but some of them are just too F*****g busy to look at their patients long enough to make a real diagnosis. If my MILs first quack would have taken the time to open his eyes and look at what was going on, My wife and I wouldn't be trying to explain to my 3 year old Daughter why we can't go to see NaNa any more. Every proffession has it's own group of slouches. It's unfortunate that the people we trust our health to also have their own group of slouches. Ree... You should send your Doctor a bill to cover all of the life style changes that you made due to his mis-diagnosis. Pat |
