Title: Flame-tastic Post by fubar on Jun 8th, 2004, 12:29am Very sad for Calgary and Canada. I stopped watching when the Sharks were beat... by Calgary. Have to admit, I'm not that upset to see the Flames lose, but I know we have some fans here. Condolences. |

Title: Re: Flame-tastic Post by JDH on Jun 8th, 2004, 8:39am WTF is the Stanley Cup doing in Tampa? Just a temporary fan here but the Flames did have a nice run and knocked off some good teams along the way. Jim |

Title: Re: Flame-tastic Post by echo on Jun 8th, 2004, 9:00am Hell of a game. I thought the Flames would pull it off after their adrenelin dump in the 3rd period. Congrats to Tampa. |

Title: Re: Flame-tastic Post by Margi on Jun 8th, 2004, 10:04am Thanks, Fubar - we're a very sad city this morning. But they really did give it a helluva good try, didn't they? We just ran outta gas last night. Tampa outplayed us, plain and simple. Bittersweet ending to an amazing two months of heart-attack hockey. We'll be back. Congratulations Tampa - you worked hard for this. We'll be back. Go Flames Go!! |

Damn straight we will, Grant. A Canadian team WILL do it next year. Here's to an NHL management shakeup and a kick in the ... ass for Bettman (who looks so much like PeeWee Herman, it's laughable.) I hope we get to have a hockey season next year, but at this point, it doesn't look good. |

Title: Re: Flame-tastic Post by Edski_1 on Jun 9th, 2004, 11:45am As a Lightning fan (since 1997) who suffered through some very bad seasons this win was sweet. :) The Flames played a tough brand of hockey, and yes basically ran out of steam. The 3 more games they played played a role in the game 6 OT and game 7 IMO. A very tough team, I was worried from about the middle of game 1, and tried to be happy that the team was there, and was the East Champs. JDH-the reason the Cup is here is simply the Lightning were the best team in the NHL this season, especially since New Years. And if the NHL gets it's sh!t together and survives this next labor spasm, the Lightning should be able to stay inthe upper echelon of the league. They will start having to make the tough economic decisions after next season, but the current management got them to this level, I have confidence they will maintain that level. The Flames have a good core-Iginla, Kipper, and Rheger look like the foundation stones a great team can be built around. This year's run was sheer determination more than overwhelming talent, but there certainly is a lot of talent on that roster. I think they are even younger than the Lightning... So for now I'll root for a re-match next season! ;;D |

Isn't Tampa a Canadian team? Didn't I hear Phil Esposito point out that the Tampa Bay team had more Canadians on it than the Calgary team did! |

uh, since hockey is a Canadian sport, most hockey teams ARE made up of mostly Canadians (with the odd sprinkling of Finns, Swedes, Russians and a token American here and there). We just ran out of Canadian cities to host all these players, so all y'all started opening franchises....and the NHL loves that almighty American dollar! I think there are 2 Americans on the T-Bay roster, a coupla Russians maybe and a whole whack of Canadian boys . The Flames have 3 Americans, 3 Finns, 1 Swede, 1 Czchec, 1 Russian, 1 Polish guy and 19 Canadians. the cup still sits rusting on a beach somewhere though and therein lies the problem. it's just wrong.... ;) |
