Former President, Ronald Reagan

I know many did not like him, but I did.

He was a good man and a good president.

An era has passed.

But with his health, it was time.

He was a great man. Like someone put it, a giant redwood fell in the forest, how can anyone not take notice of the enormous loss?

I didn't vote for him, but still mourn his passing, but as CC said - with his health - it was time.

In the news they went on and on about his acting career and just "mentioned" that he was a former president. Go figure.

I think what most will remember from his presidency is, "Mr. Gorvochec (msp) tear down this wall!"

An era has passed.

yep, I just was watching Fox, where they are paying the former president due respect. A witness described how all of his advisors, including colin powell, where begging him not to say that line. hmmm, where is that wall now?

Regan did alot of things against the wishes of his advisors...some good, some bad over all I think he was a worthwhile president, and duly my respects are paid.
He'd been suffering of alzheimers for many years now, may whatever powers that be afford him eternal peace.

It was weird to read he had passed, only about an hour before that, I had read his health was failing. May he rest in peace.

Commiserations from this side of the pond.

Whatever one thinks about him and his close ally Lady Thatcher, they represent a time when our two countries were strong and confident, and able to make history rather than react to it.

Yes he was a great Man ! His death brought sadness to my family, but he will be in no more pain ! I am sure he is with our Lord tonight!

Dan Rather & CBS had a very nice recap of RR earlier tonight. I didn't see it all. It must have been about 30 minutes or more.

Oddly, Reagan was the last Republican I voted for...once anyway. He had something rare: Grace. We need that again. He was also the most patriotic man I have seen in my 57 years.

You won't be surprised that I don't have his picture on my wall but I think that his idea of starving the Kremlin until it bled probably sped up the end of the cold war in Europe.

He was far from perfect but no matter what we think of him, he had his feet on the ground.

I loved him and loved the close bond he formed with Lady Thatcher. (I still think the world of her!) He was truly a great man, and I know that he is now free of suffering, so his passing is bittersweet. I'm sure many great adventures await him on his new trails. I wish his family greatest peace, strength, rest, and love during this time.

I'm sorry he's dead. After leading a country, he finished up in left field. Talk about unfair......life is like that, sometimes.

My daughter will never forget him. Her birthday is also on Feburary 6, so on her 8th birthday she sent him a card and said thank you for being our President. We didn't expect that he would ever even see it, but he sent her back a birthday card and a signed picture with a personal note on it. Not many men of that stature would care to take the time for a little girl who couldn't even vote. He was one who never got to big for his britches.

We got the word today while at a wedding reception. My daughter was a bridesmaid, so was at the head table. She cried, and so did her dad a little bit.

I think he will be remembered as one of the greater Presidents.
He was a friend to the UK and we were fond of him.

He was a great man, the last time we talked (1991) he told me "Jonny, cover up the tatts and get a damn job"....Thats when I came back to Mass and started my company, I owe that dude.....May God bless him.

Remembering a man who did indeed have his feet on the ground. He was a President i shall remember as a man of convictions and strength, he gave us what we needed, even if some did not want it. Admiral stuff.

Changed that.

Dropping a missile down Col. Qhadafy's(sp) chimney.
Didn't here a peep out of the Col. again until he spoke up this year on the side against terrorism.
Changed him.

The Wall.
Helped change that.

The big Star Wars bluff to the Soviets.
Good poker player too!

Back then an actor running for president was more like a joke to many people. He did an excellent job. My favorite is the SNL skit they did where RR was talking to the press and pretty much not saying anything and acting dumb. As soon as the conference was over they showed him and his advisors in a meeting and Ron wore them out and looked like a genius. I think he was dumb like a fox. I heard them say he was the oldest living president. Does that mean of current living presidents or oldest ever, does anyone know? My god bless you Ron.

Cant say that i did respect him as a president because i dont know enough about him BUT i SURE RESPECT him for that he gave the illness called altzheimer a face.

Just wish more of those public persons will learn from him on that subject

He was the oldest man to be elected to the office of the presidency. He was 77 at the time of his election.

I feel a sense of loss at his passing. It's like the end of an era. To me, he was one of the greatest presidents we ever had. I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the positive posts in this thread. I expected this to be a least 75/25 verbal duel about the man. Same as all the other topics about politics and political figures. It really just goes to show how great he was.

He was the Gipper. He made mistakes but I believe for the most part he was well-intended.

Cokie Roberts (reporter) had a good story about him the other day. Someone pointed out that a desk in the White House belonged to Grover Cleveland. (for you furriners, he was the 22nd President) Reagan said: "I played Grover Cleveland in the movies." Nope she said, that was Grover Cleveland Alexander, the baseball pitcher. True that he put his foot in his mouth but he knew how to deal with it. He didn't let stuff like that bother him and even guys on my side of the aisle had a hard time disliking him personally.

At least he was real.
