Title: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by Lizzie2 on May 25th, 2004, 3:35pm Well I started nursing school yesterday. For the most part, all is pretty good except for a few things. First off, our attendance policy is over the top strict. If I miss any clinical days (3 a week), I get fined $250 and I have to make it up. Class isn't much better. My neuro's office does not see patients in the afternoon or on Fridays. Well hell...that kinda screws me over. I have afternoons free and the next 2 Fridays free. I have to cancel my next two appts because one is on a clinical day and one is during class. I discussed this with my neuro, and I really didn't get anywhere, so I just got mad and left the office. What would you do about this??? If I don't figure something out, I'm just gonna go off all the meds and say screw it. Also, I still can't get my loans. I have rent due on 2 apartments next week and only about $500 to pay a $1100 bill! I have racked up about $1000 on my credit card just on books and uniform and med supplies alone. My dad feels the need to just scream at me about all this, even though there is nothing I can do about it because he is working it out with the financial aid office. After getting yelled at by both parents today, I wound up getting upset. Then my roommate and I went and walked around, but I had to go to the headache center after that, which was another source of frustration. I'm sorry to b#tch about this stuff, but if I don't vent, I'm literally going to explode. Thanks for listening. I still don't have internet, but hopefully soon. At least they have computer labs. :) Lizz |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by KingOfPain on May 25th, 2004, 6:49pm My 2 cents worth: Fire your present Neuro, find a new one. Problem solved. What ever happened to patient care? |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by Tiannia on May 25th, 2004, 7:31pm Aye - Find a new neuro - #1 #2 go to your teachers, lab instructors and dean. #3Talk to the financial aid people . #4 - tell your dad that you are doing the best you can and him yelling at you is doing no one any good. That you are asking for thier help, but thhat by asking for thier helps does not mean that they have the right to talk to you or treat you like an idiot or a small child. That you need thier advise and not a scolding. [smiley=hug.gif] It sucks tha tyou ahve to be the adult in all the situations but it is the best way for you to be in control as best you can. Vent here anytime. -Tia |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by bobkip on May 25th, 2004, 7:46pm Ditto the above BUT "go off my meds and say screw it" is a bad idea. You sure don't need to deal with withdrawal on top of everything else. And don't mind the parents; you are and ever will be their little girl. Kip |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by Lizzie2 on May 26th, 2004, 5:07pm Hi all, Thanks for all the responses. Made me smile on a day where I really needed it! I decided not to deal with the headache center crap today because I didn't feel like it. I'll call someone there tomorrow to try to work things out! As far as the financial aid thing, well...I have no idea where that stands either because I haven't called my dad yet today. Some days, you just have to get away from it all, know what I mean? I had 2 classes today that were really terrific! I also found out that my first clinical rotation is going to be on a floor where I have stayed many times in the hospital here, so I know all the nurses there. Happy about that. :) Oh...and I got internet. ;) Head is not behaving, but I didn't expect that it would! Sometimes it is not just that we have these headaches that are ripping us apart, but then we get other crap to deal with. If it were just the headaches or just the other crap, it would seem more manageable...but combined it does get out of hand at times. Thanks for being there!! Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by nancyc on May 27th, 2004, 12:01pm OH, SIS..do I remember the days of nursing school...When Iwent back to get my RN, I was getting hit about four times a day...stayed up all nite studying...we could not miss class or clinicals either...no fine, we would just get kicked out.....During summer break, I was admitted to the hospital to go on DHE to get some much needed relief...then I was the first nurse to ever graduate with a broken leg....now that was a funny sight...I walked up on stage to get my diploma with a full leg cast on LOL...Hang in there and take it ONE day at a time...YOU are gonna make it, SIS! You are in my prayers....Remember, all of this crap will make you a stronger, better nurse LOL....smiles,nancyc |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by Lizzie2 on May 27th, 2004, 6:38pm Hiya Nancyc!! Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to hear you made it through, broken leg, CH and all!! Normally, I do the hospital thing every summer and winter break, however this program is 12 months. It began this past Monday and it is finished next May. We do get the boot if we miss clinical twice, and then in that case, I'd have to pay $75,000 back for my scholarship by the end of one year. So I'm definately planning on doing all I can to stay in the program!! I cancelled my 2 appts at the headache center, and on Tuesday I have to go up there again and try to schedule another one. This stuff is definately tricky business!! I'm looking forward to all of the things I will learn in nursing. So far, they haven't told me anything that I didn't know, but by next week we'll already be learning how to put in NG tubes!! Most of the stuff they've gone over so far has been on vital signs, lifting and moving, and infection control. Anyhow thanks for telling me about your experience!! Gotta be tough to be a nurse with CH! ;) Hugz, Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Someone needs an a$$ kicking... Post by nancyc on May 27th, 2004, 7:44pm Personally, Liz, I would love to put a cath in jonny, myself LOL...now that would be a real treat....a view of the Mule! ;;D See, there are some fringe benefits of being a nurse....all that hard work does pay off, sis! Hang in there and if I can do anything to help, let me know OK? I am only a phone call away....if you need to rant about the mean nursing instructors or anything....God bless ya, sis...YOU can do this! I am so PROUD of you! ;;Dnancyc PS Jonny, let me and Liz know if you have any urinary problems [smiley=laugh.gif] |
