a question for all the "clusterheads"I need your trusted counseling!
my M.D.placed me back on predisone after I tapered off,stopped completely,(durr)...he sure chewed me out.I went back into CH episode ended up in his office on o2/8lpm .with a big ol inject of "toradol""ouch"he sent me to the la casa with froma,pred,o2 I was 5 yrs CH free!doc said it was all due to me stopping the pred.he got me 60mg,pred X5day,then taper20mg per day...here is the Question:I searched the board and some folks are taking up to 180mg pred per day do u guys rec..60 and under or 60 and over!

I was given 60mg a day for 14 days then tapered. This was combined with verap 180mg then upped to 360mg a day. I think/hope I'm ending my cycle now.

What are you referring to? Taking Prednisone everyday??? Forever? Unheard of!! VERY BAD FOR YOU!
Please tell us that's not what you're talking about.

Not just bad for you Virginia, a killer, take it for a long time and your bones would crumble if you sneezed!

Usual dose here is 40-60mg PER DAY for about 2 weeks, then tapered down by 10mgs per day

180 mg of Prednisone a day and you won't live very long. It WILL cause serious side effects.
Doses that big can be given in forms like SoluMedrol IV's at the hospital and for a short period of time. No doc should prescribe steriods in high doses for very long. It is intended as a short term therapy.
Starting doses could be anywhere from 40 - 80 mg a day then tapered down.
You're doc was right to chew you out for stopping this drug abruptly. It suppresses your immune system and quitting abruptly may leave you without any defense to fight off sicknesses.

Even worse, high doses turn off the bodys own production of cortisol. Stopping abruptly can cause serious (maybe fatal) withdrawl.

I'm currently on on 11 day taper....80mgs for 5 days then 60, 40, and 20, for two days each. Eleven days seems too long. It's my third taper in 4 months. Each one has been used while trying to incorporate a new preventative into my system when all other abortive's have failed.
Hopefully the Topomax will work. I've been lucky enough to have no side effects at 150 mgs. Knock wood.
