Title: Verap/Lith Combo Post by Lizzie2 on May 10th, 2004, 12:02pm Sorry I'm posting this here and not on the meds board, but I know there are some of you who take this combo who don't always check the meds board regularly, so I wanted to get all the feedback I could! ;) I went to my neuro this morning at Jefferson, and the appointment went sooooooooo much better than it had in the past! I'm going to stick with them now! At any rate, he is keeping me on the 480mg of Verap that I take a day now (120mg 4xday), but he added Lithium 300mg twice a day (total 600mg). I don't remember what kind of doses of Lithium that you all take who are currently on it. Also wondering what sorts of side effects I might expect to have. Thanks a lot! Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by Kevin_M on May 10th, 2004, 3:14pm That sounds similar to a couple others here who are getting some relief from the same combo with similar dosage. Haven't read much from the ones who are using the same meds regarding sides. Kevin M |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by forgetfulnot on May 10th, 2004, 4:16pm 600mg is where I started at also, the sides for me was a spacey feeling for about a week, then back to normal. I also blame lithium for my poor short term memory, one head shrinker told me I was impaired in that area. But keep in mind I have been on it daily for over ten years at 6-900mg. Lee |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by Jayne on May 10th, 2004, 4:38pm I was on 720 mg of verpapamil when she started me on 450mg of lithium per day. I slowly ramped down on the verapamil and now I am on 180 mg per day along with the Lithium. Only side affect I have had is NO headaches...not even a twinge. She warned me I might get shaky hands, but I have only seen that in me a couple of times early in the morning, but nothing to write home about. This combo for me is a miricale. I wish you luck!!!!!!!! |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by M.R. on May 10th, 2004, 7:49pm Did 480 of Verp. and 600 of Lith. Broke my cycle of about a year. Tapered off the Lith and down to 240 of the Verp. for blood pressure with slight twinges now and then. It did what steroids couldn't. Goodluck to ya! Mike |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by Lizzie2 on May 10th, 2004, 8:36pm Thanks for the replies, all! This sounds pretty encouraging that it has helped a number of people here! I'm hoping that the memory loss will be no worse than it was on topamax (I'm already dumb as dirt from that stuff!) and that the hand shaking business won't be bad enough to mess me up when putting in someone's IV! Don't think my patients would like that a whole lot. ;) At any rate, thanks for the input...sounds like this one might help!! I start it tonight, so we'll see! :) Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Verap/Lith Combo Post by kissmyglass on May 10th, 2004, 9:15pm Hi Lizzie, I take 480 mg. verap & 600 mg Lithium. Zero side effects and close to zero attacks. My neuro said I could easily up it to 900mg if I need to and may experience hand tremors. Good Luck! Hope it works as well for you as it does for me!! Kev |
