Title: Re: Two hockey words... Post by JDH on May 19th, 2004, 11:59pm Just heard on ESPN that the preseason odds on the Flames making the finals were a 75-1. Could've made a couple of bucks on that one, eh? ;) Jim |

Title: Re: Two hockey words... Post by Mac on May 20th, 2004, 12:11am Sharks could have used a coach like Sutter and a goalie like Kiprusoff. Oops! they did have those guys... ::) ;;D |

Title: Re: Two hockey words... Post by Kevin_M on May 20th, 2004, 12:32am Flames SURPRISED Detroit. Definitely saw it was no fluke. Great D. I am rallying for them. Man, what a high that will be in that town!!!! Huge morale lift that touches everyone in the vicinity of Calgary. Can't get ahead of myself here, still work to do for them. FINISH THE JOB. Excellent series. Real tough match. Hope the Flames think they're tough now, they will need it to finish the job. Who'd a thunk Calgary woulda brought serious big time hockey back to Canada! 75 - 1. Wish I was on that team now. What focus for those young guys. It's serious now. FINISH THE JOB FLAMES!!! Kevin M |

"This team has no read-view mirrors." Coach Sutter says his team has refused to let any past games bother them. They were up 2-0 and then lost 2 at home. A lot of more experienced teams would have folded with the pressure that Game 5 brought. Not these guys... win 2 more to close out the series. Instead, these kids are ENJOYING themselves! Watching these kids in interviews is a blast. You can almost feel the excitement. Since nobody expected them to get this far, nobody should be disappointed with the outcome of the final. Besides, with a team that young, they could be good for a while (if the team isn't torn apart by HUGE contract offers from big-market teams). on 05/20/04 at 00:32:02, Kevin_M wrote:
I lived there for most of the last 15 years and really wish I was there NOW! I moved there just in time to see their last Stanley Cup victory in 89. Seeing thousands partying on 17th Ave last night was interesting. Only 2 blocks from where I lived for years. Guess I'd be getting NO sleep if I was still there! 75-1 odds? Guess that's why this is such a surprise. Would have been nice to put a small wager down on that! >:( Flames are in the FINALS!!! |

Title: Re: Two hockey words... Post by Margi on May 21st, 2004, 11:33am LOL you are right, Slammy - we've been out of the hunt for the last 15 years. Canada hasn't been to the finals in 10 years. This team of Flames that Darryl Sutter has assembled is finally the right mix and have the hunger that has been missing for so long. I admit it, I'm a bandwagon fan now but unless there's a drastic roster change in the years to come, I highly doubt I'll be stepping off the bandwagon anytime soon. These guys are GREAT! I miss our visits Jimmy. :( |
