Title: Convention information-Please read- IMPORTANT
Post by DaveHar on May 3rd, 2004, 7:53pm
OK everyone here is the deal. If you do not get a room by June 16th you will not get it for $89. We can not change this.

Now you can get the room without all the cash up front. You can make a deposit on the room which will hold the room for you at the $89 rate. As per the agreement we have with the hotel you can pay for your room in full upon arrival or as you check out. Your choice.

To get your room reserved with a deposit all you have to doo is to call the reservations deptartment @ 1-800-633-4427 and identify yourself as part of the group "OUCH this is very important that you state you are part of the GROUP OUCH.

As of midnight CST June 16th we loose any unclamed rooms of the 50 and we also loose our hospitality suite. Ouch will then have to spend an extra $89 per day to get that suite. So please if nothing else just put a deposit on your room so we do not loose your rates or the hospitality room. And the most important part. If we do not have 25 or more rooms registered we have to pay for the function room at $500.

People we need to get at least 25 confirmed registers even if it is just a deposit. This is your convention, You make it or break it. I just give you the information you need.

I am registered. BTW, I asked them how many rooms they had down for the 16th and they said 27. So at least we have the function room taken care of.

The internet rate is cheaper than the OUCH rate.

Shows to be $86.00.  I do see the importance of saying you are with the OUCH group.  Guess it will help to keep the other arrangements in tact.

This still is high for this particular hotel though.  Could have gone down the road about 3 miles.....rooms are $60.00.  They have the same amenities.   My only concern is that some may not be able to go because of the high room rate.  Including tax....room will be approx $ 102.00 per night.

.......jonny....you best book that flight !!  Air fares are definitely on the rise.  I checked the flight to Nashville about a month ago......bought my ticket last week....fare has gone up $42.00.

See you all in Tn.

Kingofpain-go back and read that post again. You saw what you wanted to see.
Point one- If we do not fill our block of 50 rooms we do not get the hospitality room for free

Point two-If we did not have at least 25 confirmed rooms we have to pay for the hospitality suite. We are over the 25 rooms so that is covered as was stated earlier in this post.

Point three-Your meal is covered by the registration

Point four-Goodie bags covered already

Awards- covered already

guest speakers- covered

Yes it is a bit to get people to get a room but it is also a way to keep everyone informed of what is going on. I'm sorry you will not be there and that is your choice. But I never remember anyone saying that the registration was going to pay for your room or  anything like that.

Dave

Post by Jimi on May 4th, 2004, 11:49am
I look at it completely different KOP. I look at the registration fee as my donation to OUCH. Plus, if you take away the price of the Saturday night meal, which conservatively would cost me $15.00 anyway and if I had to buy a tshirt for $15.00, plus whatever is in the goodie bag, which I figure has to be at least $10.00. That leaves $40. That is my donation to OUCH to help pay for the speakers, etc. I am staying for 2 nights, so total of registration and hotel for two will cost me about $350. Cheap, no......but I have spent 3 days and two nights in other places and spent about the same.....AND....I was surrounded by strangers
Taking of for a weekend getaway is never cheap and some may not afford it at this time. But to go thinking that you are getting ripped of, is to go with the wrong reasons.
    Weekend getaway--not cheap
    Meeting clusterhead friends--PRICELESS!

I want to thank Dave and Leesa and Jayne for all their hard work. Don't let bumps in the road get you down. When it is over, you have made a memory. And memories are what life is all about. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Steve,

I'm sorry to see that you have decided not to attend the convention.  I think this is just a big misunderstanding (I hope).

I have heard from several people that they will be staying at other places because they need lower cost lodging which is totally understandable.  I think you would have a great time if you reconsidered.

There is cost for a function room AND a hospitality suite??

Can you explain what these 2 are for?  I assume that a function room would be where we all will meet up??
What is the purpose of the hospitality suite??

Just wonderin'

Jean

Title: Re: Convention information-Please read- IMPORTANT
Post by Melissa on May 5th, 2004, 8:21am
Jean, the function room is for conducting our meetings (like a conference room).  There is no way we could squish everyone into the hospitality suite, which is used as a center point for people to find out what's going on with the agenda (like an office), or to talk with other ch'ers in a more private setting, get a soda to drink, snack, etc..  Hope this clears it up for you.

Post by Little Deb on May 5th, 2004, 9:06am
Well GOOD HEAVENS!!!!!!!

Jimi said it best...so I won't say it again.  Good explanation Jimi, that is how I see it.

Steve..I hope you reconsider and come to the convention.  I am shocked at your negativity.  I think you misunderstood.

I took the "you make it or break it"  comment as:

Do the registration  ($75), and join the convention so you can meet other clusterheads.  By coming to the convention, we make it a great turnout, or a good turnout, or a lousy turnout.  No matter how you slice it, the more that come, the better it is for other clusterheads and for OUCH, which is working for us.

OUCH is responsible for paying for the hospitality suite, or the function room.  OUCH pays for everything out of our registration fees  (suite, funtion room, food, shirts, etc.)

All Dave is saying is, if enough people stay at the Holiday Inn, because they have reserved a block of rooms just for us, the hotel will not charge OUCH for the funtion room and the hospitality suite.  That is nice of them.

Some people want to stay at that hotel for convenience because all of the activities will be right there.

Yes, the rooms are expensive, kinda.  Could be worse.  It IS downtown Nashville after all.  The hotel is holding a block of rooms for us, that they could otherwise be reserving out to the public.

I am choosing to stay there because of convenience.  I would love to stay somewhere cheaper.  But I want to be where the other clusterheads will be.  If you have never been to a get together, you don't know that alot of them stay up ALL NIGHT.  More opportunity for socializing!

I am also getting the largest room they have, which is not $89.00, because I am going to share my room with someone who can't afford to pay alot.  That is my way of helping another clusterhead.  I want everyone to be able to be there and not have the cost be a factor.  I am willing to share my room with as many as can fit, even though they have a 5 person limit!!!  SSshhhhh!!!

I will even share my meals!

Most of us do not have the extra money for vacations.  But we all have the ability to help each other.  If you don't want to stay at the Holiday Inn, don't.  Stay anywhere you want.  Talk with others and share a room.

It is suppose to be a good time for all of us, and the more the merrier.  This convention is close for you, Steve.  Don't miss it because of a misunderstanding.

We all want everyone to come.  And I know if we could, we would manage to make it possible for every single clusterhead to be there.  None of us are made of money.   And NO ONE here, is trying to scam anyone over this convention.  If OUCH makes money on the deal, that is a GOOD thing.

just my  [smiley=twocents.gif].....Little Deb ;;D

C"MON KING OF SMILEYS!   SMILE WITH US!!! ;;D ;;D

Yeah this is pretty much the routine deal I've seen at other hotels for funtions like this. We get a hospitality room that is more or less the introductory room to first meet with food pop whatever and meet up with everyone and ones that know what is goin on and in charge and maybe explain stuff and ya get the rundown of the shcedule of events....hang around and talk about it all a while and wind down.....have a few beers or whatever yer into kick back relax before the real deal starts. Kind of the 'light' at the end of the tunnel room  for the entire group. Then they have the big room for the docs or whatever to be set up and talks and info and speeches ect at a certain set time  or routine that follows that was set up for the seminar part. Then the dinner deal and it goes from there. I've noticed hotels that hold blocks or offer so many rooms for a big discount aren't even crowded........that always pissed me off. But in order for them to give you the below normal deal of each room expecting that many people and them LET you put on this big shindid in  there hotel in the first place they have rules.  If they offer cheaper rooms and sell out to there set limit of 50 people then they seem to feel they are gonna make out ok with it and go ahead and offer the other options at a discount cuz apparently they felt you were:big enuff" and worth it to have all them lower price options That 's how I look at it.....otherwise they feel they don't need to offer cheaper rooms and extras if you have a teeny turnout. It's alll for show .....the big club wins. Sad but true on how they seem to operate things. Been to several weekend convnetions for things or outings for events or occations and we had the same proceudure to follow. If yer big enuff you WILL get the GOOD deal. Sorry if non of this made sense............and maybe it isn't really fair in a way but it's how they operate. I'm a strss mess today and rambling on and on and on and need to go do more stuff before vacation in a few days. I'm makein myself SICK with worry and rushing around.  Pam miss jitter box

I HOPE yer still comein KOP....there's other hotel in the area.......that'd be cool and get a lots better affordable deal for ya to check around. Hope to see you there bud !!!

GOOD HEAVENS AGAIN!!  Am I glad I CALLED to confirm I was listed with the OUCH group.

I had a room reserved, that was more expensive and called a "parlour" room.  Said it had a sleeper sofa in the parlor.  So I figure I am getting 2 beds plus the sleeper.  More people fit, right??  WRONG!
The parlor room ONLY has a sleeper.  NO BEDS!!  What is with that??  for 109.00!!!

So, obviously, I had to change to one of the OUCH rooms for $89.00 with 2 double beds.

Woulda been a bummer to try to fit 5 on the sleeper!!

I like to snuggle but.....Little Deb ::)

I think ya did GREAT Jayne dear.  Now who would want to attend a convention if you had booked it at the Cock-Roaches-R-Us Inn, that is 12 miles out of town, and only one taxi, an urgent care 37 miles in the opposite direction, that closes at 11p.m. and only has Joe's Diner to eat at, that seats 25, and the coffee is instant???  Tell me who???  Just because the rates are only $17.95 a night, or $12.00 an hour.  Sure, you only have to share a bathroom with 4 other rooms, but the showers are on timers.  And the literature on the desk isn't for room service, it is the local health dept. # for free STD testing.
Has anyone tried to get a hotel in NYC lately???????  It is a little pricey.
