I highly recommend Darren Arronsfkys movie "Pi" It was released in 1997 I believe.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the only movie where the lead character appears to be sufferring continulously throughout the movie with CHs. The effects and the sequences when he is having attacks are all so powerful, and yet so familar.

If anything, watch it with a friend or relative who does not understand the agony of CHs. When you see what is going on to this guy during the movie? That is what it feels and looks like. Amazing. The movie is dead-on.

'Pi' is great. Picked it up in a two pack with 'Requim for a Dream'... also a top-notch flick. Same writer.

Requim is one movie that makes you say 'Hmmmmm.' Show it to your kids... they will never touch heroin. I have some loose acquaintances once-removed who are in-rehab-on-even-months/out-of-rehab-on-odd-months heroin addicts... it is them in Requim to a tee.

This movie has been mentioned in the past. Just don't watch it in cycle, while your getting hit, while your on shrooms. You just don't appreciate it as well.

Yes Requiem For A Dream, another Arronsfky flick is powerful and true to its writer (Hubert Selby Jrs) premise.

Addiction.In all forms. Addiciton to food, to tv, to dope, to sex, to chocolate, even to hope.

Just plain addiction. Very powerful, but both movies are not for the weak of heart.

Hubert Selby died last Monday. His Last Exit to Brooklyn was a major book of the late 60s, at least for me anyway. His writing Requiem For A Dream has to make it a fine film.

I learn a lot more than just stuff about CHs here on these boards.

I watched it on DVD and listened to the commentary tracks by the director and the actor and they got the headache details by studying and watching a friend of their's that got daily 'migraines'. I was guessing she was misdiagnosed.

I've never seen the flick PI.......was supposed to be on statillite some time ago mentiond on here but it wasn't apparently the same schedule on ours cuz I never found it. Do they sell it at video stores like Best Buy or is it sumthin ya need ta order. Would like to get a copy on DVD. Info seeker Pam

Yeah definitely order it online or rent them both at Blockbuster on DVD. If you can get the DVDs, buy them. They have extra features, and directors commentaries. They are both spectacular. The special effects used in both films are unlike special effects seen in films like The Matrix or many other high budget Hollywood films. In these movies, the effects are more "realistic", yet use high-tech movie-making instruments, etc. Very cool.

Enjoy the films. Do not watch it in front of your 8 yr old, and don't expect to have that "feel-good" kind of effect after viewing the movie(s).

I actually bought that movie (Reefer Madness) a long time ago from a video store......funny how it starts out with people goin mad smokein pot them next thing ya know there doin mega lines of coke and goin completley raveing lunatic mad. The moive was so outragious I was embarrassed for the producers ! When movies go bad Pam

Still gotta find that PI movie........would like to get that double set Rock got......I'll be lookin at a store near you !!!

Vig thanks for the link to that article. I missed it when it was released. I started this thread and I speak highly of Hubert Selby Jr. He was a great American writer of the late beatniks. Post-Burroughs, if you will.

Last Exit to Brooklyn is a great book. Requiem for a Dream, I have not read, but is an awesome movie. Both Requiem and PI are awesome and poweful movies (that yes, only 3.14% people liked). Just put your seatbelt on and put the kids to bed. These are tough dark, but real films.

One of my good friends out here is named Morgan Margolis....his father is one of the stars of Pi I believe. I've never seen "Dream"....being a recovering addict it never seemed like a good idea. Never tried Heroin...doubt if I'd be here posting today if I had.

Another good movie in this 'vein' is The Man with the Golden Arm" by Nelson Algren and starring Frank Sinatra.
