Title: what if (convention related) ...
Post by UN_SOLVED on Apr 28th, 2004, 9:44pm
(Since I've been procrastinating...)

Some of us (any of us) decided to go at the last minute. Could we show up and pay the OUCH $$ there and still attend everything ??
[smiley=deal2.gif]

Just wondering. I haven't registered. I only live about 2 1/2 hours away driving.

I would hate to think that this would not be allowed.

I know that Zaira has arranged to pay upon arrival.

Might send a pm to Steve (not4) and see what he says.

I sure hope you can make it.....would love to meet you.

PF vibes,

Jean

I think an early 'head count' is what will reduce the hotel room rates for us all.....but would imagine walk in's are welcome long as they do it official. Then a hotel room would be an issue if the hotel was booked up but am sure you could find some floor space ina room with someone willin ta share. Hope ya make it......you'll thank yerself in the mornin Pam

Sure you can show up.
Sure you can pay the extra $25.
You may not get a "treat" bag, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Planning is everything, sometimes......

Be there, not square,

Treat bag cookie crumbs are GOOD too.  They pack a mean lunch.  Get your pecan sandies before they just become sandy.  The pecan nuts are imported from Texas, though many will be also coming from all across the country.

I'll try to sing up before the June deadline. I'd really like to meet some clusterheads (i'v never met one) and sometimes still feel alone dealing with this hell.

I hope to make it...even if it's at the last minute.

PS. I'm pretty knowledgable about meds, treatments, doctors, and just living life with CH. Maybe I could share some info (or experiences with some of you others)

I've had : OC blocks, RFG, Facet blocks, Sphenopalatine blocks, a bi-lateral ONSI Implant (the first), DHE, SoluMedrol, Droperidol & benmedryl, SoluCortez, Prenisone, Decadron, Medrol Dosepacks, Topo, Keppra, Neurotin, Lamictail, Cell Cept, Clomid, Remeron, Baclofin, Meletonin, Visterill, Zyprexa, Indomethicin, and sansert to just name a few.
I still rely on my Imitrex injections though. I'd be dead without it !  TGFI(mitrex)

PS..not to intersted in the treats, more intersted in meeting others, making my contribution to CH.com (or OUCH), and just being around others that understand what I'm talking about when referring to a clusterheadache.

Come on up.... We'll find a nail to hang you on somewhere.

don't miss convention - it's an experience.

and yes, you can register at the door. We're supposed to give the hotel a head count for the dinner about three days before, but we'll find a tuna sandwich for you if we have to.

Don't miss it - two and a half hours is WORTH the trip. And besides -- I have a big hug waiting for you....

Hope tp see you there Unsolved.

You've had Lamictal? I take it every day for my epilepsy. I don't think I've heard of anyone here on the stuff. Tricky thing to take for some.

Yes, Jean. My daughter will pay the money for the meeting when she will be there, I think because for us In Italy it costs a lot of expenses to do via credit card, about 12-20 dollars of bank commissions  :o.  Be well!

Sounds good to me. If I don't get registered (which I still might), I'll really try to show up anyways.

Hope to meet alot of you there

PS
Charlie,I took Lamictal strictly for prevention of CH. It was given to me by 'a top doctor' at U of L. Didn't work. Didn't like the doctor too well either. He was just another 'phase'. I hate having a doctor that you can never get ahold of even after leaving repeated messages. I left him pretty quick. Besides, when you have to sign a paper before the first visit saying you 'will never get any narcotics' ... it made me feel like he thought I was there for that reason (and I wasn't) !!

*Since we are on the subject.....

What if someone wanted to show up just for the socializing? (I am not meaning myself).
Not partake of goodie bag, Sat. meal, meeting, T-Shirt,  or any other "Convention" paid items/things/events.
Is this allowed?

Just wondering.

To me, wouldn't be much different than a Meet & Greet
situation.

I personally don't have a problem with that.

What say all of you?

Thanks (ahead of time) for your opinons/feedback.

Disclaimer: I KNOW the Registration & fees are very important to the whole process & success of the Convention. NOT trying to start a precedence here
with my question/topic.

KOP,

This is my opinion on this subject.  I believe that it would be considered inappropriate to just "show up" at the annual OUCH convention with just having the idea in mind of socializing.  If people want to socialize for the sake of just that, they can attend one of their local meet & greets.  The OUCH convention is a chance for not only people to meet other sufferers/supporters out of their state/country, but to find out what OUCH is doing for them, and give input on goals OUCH can work toward.  As for it being allowed, well, I don't know of any rules that say no one can do this, as I'm sure has been done before.  I just hope people will use common courtesy to not use the situation to their advantage, and respect the fact that the convention happens for a reason beyond meeting other sufferers/supporters.

Cootie ramblings: We've shown up at events before without doin the pre-registration deal or sign up routine deal b-4 but..............either we did it when we got there cuz we weren't sure till "THAT VERY DAY" we could make it to stay to of pre- registerd.....or we only dropped in to visit and 'could not stay (usually something else we had to be at same day).......so what we'd do is RESPECTABLY show up and hang out and talk to everyone and not do dinner or whatever else was in the lineup as part of the weekend. We went to show our support and see everyone. It worked out fine.....but....dude......... if you have nothin esle planned and can make it plus that close..........START SAVEING.......and STAY. You'll be real glad you did !!!!! Am sure sleepin space will work out if ya can't do the hotel cuz of cost.......am sure you can work something out with someone for a few bucks sharein a room makein it even more affordable for the others also. Herd em in and stock the yard Pam .............it's up to you !!!

I would think it would be ok (just my opinion though) especially if ya did it like Pam said...respectfully..and after all.. if ya got the chance to meet other fellow Clusterheads...why not!?
Just my thoughts

The convention was first started to get clusterheads together, people who have never met another clusterhead. I find that meeting other clusterheads is more of a learning experence than anything. Its also a good feeling to sit across from or side by side and know that these people who post are real and they hurt. You can tell each other so much more in person than you can through email and posting and you learn so much.
I have been to four conventions and drop ins were welcome. Everone donates something.

The convention money goes to  pay for
the rooms we meet in, the hospitality suit that everyone hangs in. The goodie bags, the things that go in them and the dinner. Drop in are welcome we just ask that you pay for what you recieve, or use.  If you go to dinner we need a head count ahead of time. At least a week. If you just come to meet others that is GREAT but please drop what ya can in the donation jar to help pay for the room we will be geathering in if you can aford to.
No one will be turned a way.
Another thing if you don't get a room a head of time there might not be one avaible.

Come one come all we will work things out.

....You ...You...... words fail me.....;;D

FuckenEH... there's a word that WORKS...

if ANYBODY that HURTS from this MOFO wants to show up, we will find a way to:

1) Get in your pocket ...

B) Teach you (some) how to deal with CH....

III) Find a way to spread the word about this insidious THIEF of our lives....

FOUR: and make you feel like you are not ALONE... I can truthfully say that meeting a fellow CHer is .... just different: more than you expected and less.

ABSOLUTELY the Org4UnderstandingCH wants your money--  it's WHAT WE DO.... and the Convention is not a big money maker..so far.

...but if you can make it Nashville in July (!) I'm sure you will be well greeted. *Party Animals* will stick out like a ...well... red, inflamed, eyeball.... and will NOT be rockin' and pacin'...

...if I was working the DOOR, you would be admitted by using one of the SECRET WORDS:
--trigeminal
--hypothalmus
--FUCKENEH
--oxygen
--STFUD
--mushroom
--Ueli
--TFH
--zipper
--walk in the sunshine
--Thelma&Louise
--MOC sent me
--thermo-nuclear acid knives of pain in your eye-socket
--and so on....

come on down, y'all.... invitations have been sent...
RSVP's are appreciated....

and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Damn, this is a great bunch. I'll register the first of the week and see if I can still get a room. Getting there is no problem. I wanna make my contribution to CH and OUCH. Most of all...I just want to meet someone else who really has what I do and not feel like ... "YEAH, RIGHT !" .....(does that make sense ?)...
