sorry for the double post folks (posted it at mediactions also), but need some input FAST, as I can see my gp only tomorrow for a week to come...

I have a question about using o2. I recently got it for the first time, been using it during this cluster for about a week on averge an hour a day now and have noticed something very weird last night.

While inhaling the oxygen half asleep I felt a light shaking sensation through my chest and neck, like someone was gently trying to wake me. No pain or discomfort, just very weird. I got worried when I felt this cause I have never had this kind of weird feeling.
Anyone had this before?

Also I am feeling kind of dizzy lately (since I start using the oxygen). Is this normal?

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

From what I understand, pure O2 inhalation has a tendancy to get you 'high'...

... It's done me that-a-way... but I'm just weird.

As far as the chest 'shaking'... I couldn't tell ya.. but someone around here can.

What type of a mask are you using? I don't really feel it's a good idea to be kind of half-asleep and laying down while your using O2. Are these attacks at night? Are you sure your not just exhausted and falling back to sleep while using O2?

Luke: yes the attacks are at night. When they wake me it is still a (strong) shadows, that's when I open the tank still half asleep. The mask came with the tanks, a plastic adult O2 mask as used in hospital.

Usually I am more exhausted after attacks, but still I find this shaking very weird...

Anyone else knows of this?

Any other meds being taken after the attack or prior to the shaking?...

It could be that your nerves are fried after having to go through a Tango with Satan...

Either way, it'd be something you should ask your Professional Brain Technician about...

... just a thought...

verapamil 2x120 SR a day and sometimes relpax eletriptan 20 mg, could that have anything to with it????

I may have read your post wrong. But if you are using 02 for an hour, that could be it. Usually if it isn't getting better after 20 minutes, it probably won't. Yes, and getting up quickly after taking the mask off can make you dizzy as well. It has been awhile since I have had to use 02 but I seem to remember a little fluttering in my chest as well. Didn't last but a few seconds though.
Also the dizziness could very well be due to the verapimil. It made me light-headed.

If theres a strap on the mask CUT IT OFF, at worst you will lose a tank of 02.......That beats what could happen if you fall asleep with that mask on.

I always sucked for 15 minutes. I say if the job can't get done in 15 minutes, it ain't getting done. Just my 2 cents worth.

You should talk to your doc ASAP about any unusual side effects. You don't need an appointment for that .. just call and leave a message.

yes it has a bag on it, but it doesn't fill, it just hangs there... [smiley=huh.gif]

it ain't working. It should fill very fast after each inhale. Defective valve/gasket most likely. Get another one, they're only 5 bucks at any med supply store.

I would say that the mere fact you are suddenly woken and inhaling O2 is enough to make you dizzy and shakey.......sometimes I get dizzy and shakey just depends what im doing ;;D

...here's MY take on yer experience: you say your "using it during this cluster for about a week on averge an hour a day now ". This can be taken several ways. But if you have no relief in 20 minutes....STOP.

I think you are, in effect, if not literally, hyperventilating. When people have panic attacks, one of the *remedies* is to breathe into a paper bag. Basically, this *rebreathes* your carbon dioxide emissions and cuts DOWN on your oxygen intake.

That weird ...fluttery... feeling is like a panic attack. You have TOO much o2 in yer blood.

Which, normally, at least for SOME (like 70%) of CHers is a GOOD THING. Aborts the HA and gives relief.

I, personally, LIKE that "weird feeling"... it means the MOFO has gotten his ass kicked AGAIN.

Well I know the oxygen does come through the mask, but do I have to inflate the bag first to make it work?

When I first got my set up, the technician told me to hold my finger over the valve inside the mask to let the bag fill, for the first time. I don't have to do that, but you may try that and see if it makes a difference.

The bag should inflate automatically. If the bag inflates, but deflates as you take in breaths, then the flow might be too low.

Your symptoms could be a result of too much CO2 and not enough O2. Be careful until you get it figured out.

I have never experienced the symptoms you have described while using O2.
