Title: Piano Recital Tomorrow (CD Info)
Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 23rd, 2004, 6:31am
Hi y'all,

I just thought I'd let you know that my senior piano rectial is tomorrow night at 8pm here at Penn State!  I have put in a TON of time and energy for this, and I'm really excited about it....a little nervous too!!
Here's what I'm playing:
Bach Prelude and Fugue in b-flat minor (Well Tempered Clavier BookI)
Beethoven Sonate in E-flat major Op. 31 No. 3
Poulenc Three Novelettes
Chopin Polonoaise in E-flat minor
Liszt Gnomenreigen Etude
Schumann/Liszt Widmung (Dedication)

Hopefully it'll go well!  I cleaned all last night because I have a couple friends coming today and a lot of family coming tomorrow!!  This is pretty much the last big thing I have before finals and graduation!!

I'll have lots of pictures after tomorrow to share, and also it is getting recorded.  If anyone would like a cd, once I have them, I would be more than happy to mail one out, so long as you wouldn't mind helping me with shipping costs.  If that's the case, just PM me your address.  Take care and lotsa hugz!!

Lizzie :)

No worries Carrie...

You know the material, its simply a matter of execution.
I know you'll be fine. You also know the routine of a mistake, most folks won't know if you just play through it.

knock em dead champ!

hehehe OOps!!  How about next week once this is all over, I will get a disk and record it, and you'll have a kicking copy because I will have just played my recital?  Deal?? ;)

Tia, I think it was around 6am my time here this morning when I posted! hehe  My sleep has been nutty lately with the prednisone, but I've been trying to get a good night's sleep during this week before the recital!  Probably won't sleep much tonight though!!

The recital is at 8pm tomorrow.  Thanks for thinking of me, all!!  It's been hard because from 11am this morning until 3this afternoon when i go back to practice, I've had to make myself just do absolutely nothing and relax!! (It's hard to do, honest!) and then I have practicing today from 3-5 and my dress rehearsal from 5-7.  Then tomorrow is all planned out too!!!  (EVen the part I planned out where I watch tv and eat pizza LOL)

Hugz,
Lizzie/Carrie

I can't wait!

That's the *cool* thing about a Disklavier... when it plays back a recording, it's reproduced in every detail and nuance.  It's so special to get a 'live' recording.  THANK YOU!

Lizzie,

Do you need Thomas, Fubar and I to show up and play backup for you on our kazoos?  May even be able to get jonny there to whistle out his ass as well. [smiley=moonwiggle.gif]

Looking forward to the sample of your rectial.

Hi guys!

I just got home from the dress rehearsal.  It went reallllly  well!!  My teacher was thrilled.  So this is a good start, anyhow!!!  Now I just hope it goes that well tomorrow.

Here's to hoping the Beast takes a small vacation because he's certainly been making today difficult!  Got hit before the dress rehearsal, and then as I was walking out to the car after the dress rehearsal a real big one.  Deeeeeeyaaaaaaaaaam, I just wanna have some fun!!  LOL  :-/

Dad's bringing refills of O2 tanks tomorrow. :)

I'm determined that this recital is going to kick ass, and the beast will run and hide!!  ;;D

Lizzie :)

Ahhh...

I was going to offer... if it was at the Harrisburg campus, and you like Trex, I could have some injectors or vials on standby there for you just in case.  Or o2 for that matter.  Close enough to that location that it would not have been any difficulty.

Stage College is a bit of a haul!

Best of luck!  My daughter is into the piano... started 3 yrs ago at 7.  Is good at it... just dislikes practice.

Thanks Rock,

That's very nice of you. :)  My dad is bringing up some O2 today, and I have some amerge on hand...fortunately!!

Tell your daughter to keep up with the piano.  There were definately times I didn't want to practice either!   I'm glad I stuck with it...17 years. :)

Take care!

Liz,

I just wanted you to know how PROUD I am of you!!  I know how hard you have worked just to get to here AND you have done it all while battling the beast.  I look forward to hearing the results!!

Today, as always, you are in my thoughts and prayers.  Good Luck, Little Sis, although I doubt you will need it!!

Be sure to let me know how things went and know that if I could be there to "cheer you on" I would!!

Lots of Love,

Thanks, Donna. :)

Thank you for all the support you've given!!

I woke up at 7am this morning, and James and I went for a walk outside.  Then, I came back and hung around here for a little bit..w.atched a little bit of "Finding Nemo" LOL  Then I went and practiced piano from 10:30-12:30, and James and my roommate Laura, and I went to lunch after that.

I just got my hair done, and I have to say the woman was such a bitch.  All she kept saying the entire time was how damaged and awful my hair was.  Way to make me feel good...   :-/

Ah well....my family will probably be coming over soon. :)  Did I tell you before that my choir director (who is on my committee for my recital) scheduled a concert at the same time as my recital tonight?  It would be my last concert in Essence of Joy, but...not gonna happen for me! LOL  I just passed my director walking by the music building, and he was like, "they're all out and about..." like.. "why are you late?"

Guess he forgot I have my recital.. LOL

OK!  The rest of today is going to be GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny story to tell you later about my roommate calling the cops on some people last night! ;)

Hugz,
Lizzie :)

Thanks again for the messages!!!  Now I actually have a moment to write about it because everyone has left.  Such a great weekend!!!

Fu, I had the recital professionally recorded, but it wasn't recorded on a disklavier...but I promise you I will go get a disk this week and play it again on the disklavier down in the practice rooms.  I promise!!!

Yesterday was the most gorgeous day here, weather wise.  Sunny and warm.  Today it downpoured, so I really lucked out!!

The most amazing thing was that I really wasn't that nervous when I went down to play the recital.  I was trying not to concentrate on the fact that the strap on my dress wouldn't stay up on my shoulder..LOL!!  Sounds stupid, but...the things we think  about. ;)

Funny story, though.  There were 4 concerts going on at the same time last night, so there was no parking and some of my family got to the recital at the very last minute.  I didn't know this, so I went on stage to play at like 8:05.  As I go to sit down, my dad comes running into the recital hall with the video camera and sits down.  I begin this really somber and slow Bach prelude, and my dad is fiddling with the camera, which was loud and was really ticking me off.  Then, all the sudden, he dropped the video tape and it made this huge BANG!  I heard everyone in the audience start whispering.  I was considering stopping and starting the piece over, but instead I just closed my eyes for a second, took a deep breath, and kept going.  It wound up being pretty funny.  My best friend told my dad, "Gee, you wanted to make an entrance, huh?" hehe  DonnaD said earlier that he was making a mistake for me (so I didn't have to) LOL!!  He did manage to get the tape in the camera to tape the whole thing except for the first f ew seconds, though!! :)

Overall, the whole thing really couldn't have gone better.  Most of my pieces went even better than they had gone in practice.  My teacher was thrilled.  All 3 piano teachers were there, and the one woman is French...she was talking so fast I couldn't even understand her! hehe  I don't have to play a jury now because they were all at my recital.  I cried when I was talking to my teacher about how far I've come in 5 years and how much it took to prepare for this moment!  He said it makes him want to cry that I am going into nursing. LOL  We're going to go get ice cream tomorrow for my very last piano lesson ever!  Woohoo!

I have to call the guy who recorded it to see when I will be getting my cds.  I will be happy to make a copy for anyone who would like one. :)  I will just need help paying for the shipping costs, which shouldn't be too much.

Sorry this is long. Thanks again for all the support!!  You all have helped me get through this school year and stay sane so that I could do well last night.  I really couldn't be happier right now!! :)

Hugz,
Lizzie :)

Hey Broomie,

Yeah I got that dress over spring break because I gained too much weight to fit into the other one...D'OH!  Then that dress barely fit because of the prednisone!!  Ack!! LOL

Fu, Do you know if you can get double density disks for the disklavier at somewhere like walmart?  It says it only takes double density, and I can get them at the bookstore, but I don't live on campus, so I was thinking about going to pick it up at the store.  Just curious!

Lizzie,
Where is the story about the room mate, the neighbors and the cops?

 Hey Fu,
Can you convert what Lizzie did into a Midi, or is that what it already is? Then you can host it and everyone can easily download it.

I know she would let you do it for me. It would probably be much better than an mp3.

Opus/Paul

Title: Re: Piano Recital Tomorrow (CD Info)
Post by fubar on Apr 30th, 2004, 1:41am
Actually, the midi might not sound nearly as good as the mp3.  While the midi can produce perfect tones, it can't faithfully reproduce the nuance of attack and sustain, or the other sounds inherent to a piano action that make it so beautiful.  I guess it's a matter of preference, but the real deal sounds way better to me, even if it's simply a recording.  Trying to reproduce it by computer never satifies.  That's why Disklaviers are so incredible.  They very faithfully reproduce the work and artistry of the pianist.

Once thing that can be cool is you can make a recording of the disklavier playing back the performance, and what you get is the same perfomance *without* the noise of the audience.  Nice.  I'll do that for you if ya like, but I don't have any recording equipment that is good.

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't responded to this or any PM's yet...I've been feeling like total crap!  At any rate, my cd burner is having some sort of problem, and so far I've been able to make one copy! LOL
I agree that the midi wouldn't sound near as good as the real thing, but if you want it I have no problem with it.  I don't know how to turn it into midi myself, but Shawn can if he knows how.
I listened to the cd a few times yesterday.  It sounds great except for that one bang about 10 seconds in where my dad dropped the tape!!
If I feel better today, I'll try to get more done.
Got 2 classes and one is a final, and then no more class at Penn State!  ;;D  3 finals next week before I leave.  Of course, I got the very last final slot at 6:50pm on Friday night for my anatomy final.  Nice...  At least I have lots of time to study! hehe

I forgot to post it hehehe.
OK so this past weekend was the Blue and White weekend here at Penn State, which is like...the biggest party weekend of the year.  So, my roommate and I were home on Friday night, and across the lawn from us, these people were having an apartment party.  The music was blasting so loud that OUR walls were shaking.  I was in my room battling my 5th cluster headache of the day, and my roomie Laura knocked on my door to ask what I thought about the noise.  First of all, she took one look at me, and was like..."OMG what is wrong with you? Are you ok?"  I was like...heh yeah i'm ok..just hurting baaaaaaaad!  I was trying to relax for my recital the next day, but the damn beast wouldn't leave me alone..

So anyways...Laura decides she's gonna call the cops on the partiers.  She does, and we turned off all the lights in our apartment and watched the cops hand a citation to the neighbors. Hehehe  We felt like ornery old ladies busting on a college binge drinking party, but it was probably one of the more eventful Friday nights we've had here.  LOL

Ahhhhhhh wellllllllllllllll. :)
Lizzie :)
