Title: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Roxy on Apr 16th, 2004, 9:46pm Maybe I should put this on the CH specific board....don't know....too many boards now, I get confused, need to go back to brunette. Since I have been going med free (unwillingly med free), there are times when getting hit that I get nauseated. The last was two weeks ago. It doesn't happen every time, but it seems when it is really bad, the nausea kicks in. Nothing like kneeling in the gutter in Dallas, throwing up into the ditch. I've talked to a few other cluster sufferers, and they told me that they also get nauseated, but they are scared to bring it up on the board......afraid it sounds like a migraine. I do think it's the pain level that brings on the nausea, not the ch per se.....enough pain can make anyone puke. How 'bout ya'll? This hit anyone else? |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Melissa on Apr 16th, 2004, 9:51pm Roxy, I have never been afraid of saying here that I have thrown up from the pain. My stomach sometimes cannot handle the high kip clusters, and so up it chucks. ::) You will find others on here who have also vomited from the pain, I think it is more commonplace than what people let on... :)mel |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Miklos on Apr 16th, 2004, 10:07pm Suburban Iwo Park here. In cycle, I will have at least three or four sessions with what feels like projectile vomiting. I can toss about ten feet into the backyard (which is definitely more discreet than a Dallas ditch). Throwing up is not too bad, but it's the retching afterwards that wipes me out. |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by ckelly181 on Apr 16th, 2004, 10:10pm Hey Roxy, Unless I catch it, the first few attacks of a new cycle will have me puking my guts out, screaming and crying. It almost seems like my body needs to get used to the daily torture. Oddly, I was never misdiagnosed with migraines - my docs said tension, hormones, heat, allergies, but never migraines. THANK GOD FOR 02.... Chris |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Jimi on Apr 16th, 2004, 10:14pm Prior to O2, when I used to just wait it out and rock back and forth, many times I threw up. And sometimes I would gag myself, because after I vomited, it seemed to finally ease off. Since O2, they went away fast enough where I didn't get sick. |

Hey Steve.....how's it going? I've been totally med free since my heart problem at the end of January. I just received cardiac clearance last week to use triptans again, but I'm looking for something other than imitrex. I don't like what it does to my head. I did take a Relpax last night up in CT., while I was with Cat at the neuro. Cat made me take three baby asprin before she'd let me take the triptan....lolol. The Relpax seemed to work really well. I'm just very thankful to the very nice clusterhead who let me have one of his pills. THANK YOU TED!! |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Renee on Apr 16th, 2004, 11:15pm Roxy, Relpax is what Doc Sheftell chose for me as an abortive. This week's experience: 1st usage: complete relief 2nd usage: moderate relief 3rd usage: mild relief I don't think it is the relpax that is failing but rather the ch that is ramping higher and higher. Check your p.m.'s renee |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Tiannia on Apr 16th, 2004, 11:27pm Yes Tracey, I have to admid that I too will find myself running, err well usually crawling, to the bathroom when I get hit hard. It is not daily, but enough to know thaat when the kip is high then I know it will most likely happen. Think that is part of the reason why when I first started getting these I thought that it was a migraine, but non of the other symptoms fit. :-/ I was so confused... Glad your heart is more on an even keel. -Tia |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Thorns on Apr 16th, 2004, 11:33pm Nausea usually hits me during the middle of the really bad ones (mid cycle). However, this is the first cycle where I have actually [smiley=hurl.gif] during an attack that was unprovoked by any medicines (i.e. imitrex pills). Oddly enough it actually made my head feel a little better! Thorns |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Turts on Apr 17th, 2004, 2:18am At the start of a big hit i have dry reached a few times, but I think it is more from a tightness of chest than actual stomach nausea. I have never actually "puked" as you call it Turts |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Mikey on Apr 17th, 2004, 4:51am OOH hell yeah Tracey, i've puked my guts out before, and what makes it really bad, is the pressure in my head as it's happening, that makes it worse!!! I find that this only happens during a really bad attack though, like a kip 9 or a 10. Mikey, |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by suzy617 on Apr 17th, 2004, 7:56am I used to get sick each time in my non med days. Now with the imitrex though, I think I knock out the pain before my stomach gets a chance to turn. Oh and Roxy...I like you just fine as a blonde. :D Suzy |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by pubgirl on Apr 17th, 2004, 8:57am I think you're right Roxy. People are afraid to say if they get either photophobia or nausea with CH in case anyone thinks it is Migraine. I occasionally get both with CH, and if it helps we were told from the last CH talk we had from Manjit Matharu that there is a substantial proportion of CH sufferers (can't remember the %) who get nausea, vomiting, photophobia and auras. Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Mastifflvr28 on Apr 17th, 2004, 10:10am Hey Rox, If yer posting, does this mean that you and Cat made it back in one piece? In 98 (worst cycle ever) RIGHT before I found ch.com and the RIGHT meds I was puking every night. I don't know if it was the kip 10's or the fioricet w/codiene that did it. But I started eating things for dinner that would be "ok" coming back up...ya know, not tooooo acidic :) Vig...I sure hope you don't get hit everynight...or that means you haven't eatten for 6 weeks now :) Mast |

I've only talked to one other ch'er that has photophobia, so I know it isn't as common as nausea. I'm really surprised that this many people do get sick to their stomachs.....I thought it would be a lesser number. I do agree that when I was using trex so much, I never felt sick. It seems to be only when I am caught without being able to use triptans, and when the 02 isn't working real well.....and it is only with the kip 9-10 level hits. HEY MICH.....we made it home last night, safe and sound.....and not too many catastrophes.... ;;D. |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by Cerberus on Apr 17th, 2004, 3:17pm Sloppin the hogs during a CH...hrmmmmm. Gotta say that it has happened to me. I can't say why tho, it seems to me that the torture of a CH is disorienting enough to make ya wanna hurl. Could also be the pain level, anxiety of it, level of meds (yea/nay). Can't say for sure, except that it doesn't happen regularly...well to me anyhow. But now that I think about it, the urge to vomit seems to come directly before an attack for me...maybe its the body's way of warning me of impending doom, who knows? Ramon |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by 9erfan on Apr 17th, 2004, 3:17pm Well, you know we've talked about this before and my answer is yes. During the mild/moderate "episodes" I just get the nausea but don't actually throw up. During my worst cycles I throw up many times. December, 2000 I spent an entire weekend on the floor of a bathroom in a room at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. I figured what was the point of leaving? The side of the tub felt good against my head when I wasn't throwing up and when I was the toilet was right there. :-[ |

After seeing the way some people get jumped for posting having Migraine-like symptoms, I can understand why nobody would say anything. I mean, check it out - how long has Roxy been here and was afraid to ask the question? This board while supportive of pure CHers can be a hostile environment for anyone else. Hell, it was on this board, I learned you could have ch and cph or ch and migraines at the same time, well not all in the same attack maybe, but be troubled with any combination of the 3. [smiley=damncomputer.gif] DAMN!!! My 19" monitor smoked right after typing that. Had to resort to my old 15" bench monitor. See what negative vibes get put out when you start talking about migraines!!! ;;D Anyways...I blew chunks a couple times when I first started having these headaches. I am photophobic to a degree. I don't know if it's an aura or a premonition, but sometimes I can tell when an attack is coming and if it's going to be a really really bad one - I usually know. This came in handy before seeing the headache specialist, cause all I had to fight with was demerol and phenergan. Now with the meds I am on, I no longer have the constant background h/a, O2 helps with the lesser attacks and the Zomig Nasal Spray kicks the beasts ass for really nasty attacks. Gator |

Title: Re: CH question...poll....whatever.... Post by fubar on Apr 17th, 2004, 4:24pm I also have had pain-induced vomiting. It cracks me up that the doctors completely dismiss this. I haven't heard one doctor (even my neuro) who will accept the fact that CH can make you puke. They seem rather convinced about it. Too bad they've never HAD CH. |

Like she says, though, she does come off timid and shy. Maybe it was the delivery? Maybe because I actually know a Roxy who really is extremely tinid and shy? Anyways, it doesn't change what I posted, except for who was afraid to ask. Thanks Roxy/Tracey for asking the question so you and others could see how many people, including some of those who would normally jump on others for posting it, have these "non-ch" symptoms. It used to happen when I would take that melt in your mouth not in your hands zomig pill. To this day I cannot stand the smell of artificial orange! ;;D It happened again when I started taking lithium. Thank god it wasn't regular...cause I will try to do anything to stop the urge to puke! hehehe...guess it stems from bad memories from when I was a kid! hehe hugs Ann |

LOLOL....hey Gator, this is a thank you! I like the idea of timid and shy....it's much nicer than what people usually call me... ;;D. And, all people called Roxy are required to be timid and shy, it's a rule... ;). The differences in how ch affects people just fascinates me. Some feel sick, some can't stand light, some like quite and some require pounding ass loud music. I've never seen an affliction where the response to it is so diverse. I thought I had found the best way to handle the hits, but I have learned from the people here, and I now handle them totally different than I did when I found ch.com. The nausea is just another little side effect that we have to learn to deal with. Tracey |
