Title: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by 9erfan on Apr 15th, 2004, 12:10pm Well, after 24 years as a loyal fan of the San Francisco 49'ers I am seriously thinking of taking my loyalties elsewhere. So I'm searching for a new team. No, I'm not a fair weather fan. I've been through the hard times before. But as long as Dr. York & his pain-in-the-butt-wife are the owners of this team, I can no longer stand by and watch them slowly destroy my team. They don't know what they are doing, and it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon. So, any suggestions out there for new teams for me? What can YOUR team offer ME as a fan?? ;;D I'm looking for a well-rounded team with ownership, management, and players that I can respect. Here's teams I won't consider: Oakland Raiders (no explanation necessary) >:( Dallas Cowboys (can't root against them for most of my life, and then become a fan) Philadelphia (I've had enough of Terrell Owens) San Diego Chargers (if Marty Shottenheimer is still coach, can't root for them) Here's teams I'm currently considering: Tennesse New York Giants Denver Broncos Tampa Bay I was considering the Detroit Lions (I'm still a fan of Mariucchi) but then I remembered that their GM was the idiot Matt Millen. ;;D Any suggestions fans? Thanks, V. |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by JDH on Apr 15th, 2004, 12:37pm Don't blame you 9erfan. Looking like a long season ahead for Dr York's guys. Didn't see the Rams on your list. I guess a "former" '9er fan could never make that big of a switch, eh? I'll break down being Rams fan for you: Pro's *cool looking uniforms & helmets *on TV a lot *whole lotta speed / greatest show on turf *usually in the playoffs Cons: *idiot head coach *they play indoors *big QB controversy going on *one of the QB's (Warner) has a wife that looks like Alice on the Brady Bunch...YIKES :o Always room for one more on the bandwagon. Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by Karla on Apr 15th, 2004, 12:49pm How about the Green Bay Packers?!!! They are owned by the city of Green Bay, GM and coach is Mike Sherman. He is Great! We were in the superbowl twice in recent years. One one lost one. But have like 5 other superbowls under our belts. We have made the playoffs every year for aprox the last 10 years. They play like the 49ers used to (I am a 49ers fan also). West coast offense and as a united team. Thats the key word. The team plays together and flows nicely. Everyone is important and it isn't just one player or two. The fans are the best and most loyal in the world. Green and gold grows on ya cause it now flows through my veins. You can find Packers bars out in CA so you could go route for your team with other local Packer fans. Go to www.Packers.com and check them out. |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by jimbo on Apr 15th, 2004, 11:36pm Karla, Bruce and Melissa are right! THE PACKERS! Nuff said. They've got a few problems right now with some key players wanting to leave, and they haven't said why they want to but I know this team and everything about them and they will get through this! Unfortunately they passed over a great person to be the DB coach (Butler) in favor of some schlep who doesn't have any experience at the position and I think that that is where most of the animosity is coming from. Wait am I rambling? sorry! Packerfanjimbo |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by Cerberus on Apr 16th, 2004, 1:50am I would be dissapointed if you didn't at least consider the Chiefs... Reasons : 1. The Chiefs are a fan friendly, organization who conduct their business with the fans in mind. (no. 1 in fan regognition and satisfaction in 2003) 2. They have an Excellent scouting program, Solid Coaching and hold their players accountable to moral criteria they are a fans team. (The big egos from players are not considered desireable) 3. They are still up-and coming and long overdue for a superbowl appearance...and are WAY under-rated on talent. 4. consistant/smart in ownership, coaching. They play smart, and know how to build and develop a ball team. While they have not appeared in the superbowl since 1969, they almost always have a winning season, and the coaches and players take accountability for their shorcomings and mistakes. The overall number 1 reason is that they are ALWAYS fun and exciting to watch play. There is always at least one thing in a season that happens to the chiefs that I have NEVER seen happen before. The AFC west is always one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. Players with talent: Trent Green Priest Holmes Dante Hall Tony Gonzales Willie Roaf Vonnie Holliday Jerome Woods All Coached By Dick Vermiel....who turned the Eagles around, Won a Superbowl with the Rams, and Has Brought the Chiefs back as a contender after two terrible seasons. I would NOT recommend the folowing teams mainly because I feel that too many of their fans are of the bandwagon variety... The PACKERS.......C'mon lets be realistic, Brett Farve is the only reason they have been so good. And his time is limited. The Rams...(no offense JDH) But it seems that too many people are fans because of Kurt Warner's inaugural season who's true skill is questionable. The greatest show on turf is debateable... The Cowboys...Although they have new life under coach parcells....who didn't when he was coaching? And they have enough recent SB rings. The Patriots....(Sorry Jonny) But I am sick and tired of the Pats....Its a Hate thing only. My Best arguments Ginny...I have only been disappointed with two seasons during my fanhood of the Chiefs. RAmon |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by 9erfan on Apr 16th, 2004, 11:38am Thanks to everyone who responded! :) You gave me a lot to think about. Ramon- You forgot the best thing about the Chiefs....Shottenheimer is no longer the coach! You've only been disappointed twice? How 'bout all those years that Shot brought them to the playoffs but COULDN'T bring them all the way? You're right about the loyalty of those fans. I lived in KC from '97-'99 and I remember my friends & coworkers going into DEEP depression when they would lose in the playoffs. Well, the jury is still out. I'm considering all the arguments presented to me, I'm doing some further research (I take this stuff very seriously), and I will be waiting to see what happens in the upcoming draft! |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by Tiannia on Apr 16th, 2004, 1:34pm Sorry Verginia - I cant help you. I have been forced to learn and watch foot ball for the past 10 years and my hubby is a Seahawks Fan. He got hooked on them while being stationed up there. I know and so does he that they never win but they have at least made it to the playoffs which is more then they did for the first 8 years I watched them. ;;D Just pick a team that is on TV at least some so that you can enjoy a game or two and not be forced to watch tems you hate while you are watcing football and look for ones that have running backs and QB that have a good ass. :-*[smiley=bloos.gif] Personally I cant stand the Raiders and 49ers cause I was terminally OD'ed on them going to college in Reno. [smiley=hurl.gif] -Tia PS My hubby says that I like the Panthers and Titans cause I like the uniforms. |

Title: Re: ATTN: Football Fans! Post by Cerberus on Apr 16th, 2004, 2:59pm yeah Ginny, when shot-to-hell-mer was coach we did miss some good opportunities in the playoffs, however, they were still 15 straight winning seasons. A superbowl would have been nice, and I TOTALLY blame marty for those missed opportunities, they had the quality players to do better but it was the coaching that failed. Mr. Vermiel now has the program back on track and it should not be long now before we get that elusive super-bowl the fans deserve. Oh and I don't base my loyalty on # of championships, I base it on quality of season. You can dominate a leauge, go to the superbowl and win, but how many of those victories during the season we of a quality nature, how much heart does a team have...is what counts most to me win or lose. happy hunting, Ramon |
