Dave

This isn't new. In the case of CH, a procedure called ONSI (Occipital Nerve Stimulator Implant) is carried out where the Occipital nerve is stimulated by electrodes powered in the same way as this article describes.
ONSI's have been done since as far back as 1999.

If you want to know more about ONSI for CH, go to the OUCH Library, do a search on here (there are quite a few threads) or go to OUCH Uk where you will find a very long thread charting the progress of a man who has had ONSI on both sides.

Also, occipital nerve blocks can achieve similar results for a shorter time.  These are injections of steroids and/or anaesthetics in the area around the bump on the back of the head.  Although they only last 2 weeks or so, they are inexpensive, safe, and may be enough to break a cycle in some episodics.
